An ant war has broken out in my Ant Room, between my pet fire ant colony (Solenopsis geminata) named the Crimson Knights, and a wild crazy ant colony (Paratrechina longicornis). I watched the two ant colonies, who are actually competing species in the wild, battle over a jelly cup, and unraveled the mystery as to why the black crazy ants had decided to invade the territories of my fire ants in the first place. What I ended up discovering what pretty incredible! Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

Got to keep the Crazy Black Knights. You could do an upside down connolly and call it Crazy Town. They could live on the top and descend down for food and building material. This might have some observational advantages like keeping a black mat over the top of two sheets of glass. Allowing you to better observe the ants. You could also light it and provide building materials so you could see through the nest and see where rooms were and how they were changing.

Now that I think about it, I need you guys to refresh my memory. But wasn't it the crazy black ants colony that Mikey built built multi nest network in his old place? I mean main nest in antiverse room and smaller satellite nest in the kitchen? (I bet you Arejey was cringing and wanted to kill Mikey, but got a nice present for the sacrifice ;) ) Or was it different species colony? I will try to dig through the videos, but I am sort of sure it was the crazies. Maybe now with better space we could have bigger multi terrarium set up without the need of going into the kitchen ;)

I live in Nova Scotia, and after watching this channel (Across different accounts) for years, I finally managed to capture my first queen. (As I finally have the time and resources to start one) Funnily enough, it was rather easy, as a New York carpenter ant queen was casually walking down my main hallway. Hopefully with the knowledge that channel provided to me, I can grow this queen to it's fullest potential.

Something you maybe will like: fire ants are native here were I live (we call them 'formiga lava-pés', wich means "feet-wash ant, because you'd desire to do so if you step on their ant hill). When I was a kid, I sometimes break a few cracks in native ground termites hills, just to wait to observe some fire ants find it, run back to their colony and then bring an attacking horde to the termite's damaged hill. The termites also had their own warfare, and position huge groups of soldiers forming barriers around their workers who were fixing the broken walls. It was... fascinating. One time, I just threw away in my yard a bunch of larvae of a certain native beetle who happens to infect the nut of a native little coconut fruit (Butia catarinenses), and I could watch fire antes doing the exact same attack pattern to them as they were a termite colony... but, unlike termites, they couldn't fight back.
@ravick007
@ravick007 5 ай бұрын
Oh, and sometimes, another kinds of ants also discover the termite hill in vulnerable state, so in some time, there were three or more factions fighting: the termites with their barrier of soldiers around the workers hurring to close the crack, the fire ants horde trying to kill and take termites, and other(s) ant species also attacking the termites but also trying to kick the fire ants out.

We know this channel. We know this community. There is practically no one here who would not say to keep the Crazies. And now you also get to be the proud owner of a colony of the species you discovered in your area. That's pretty cool.

Whats really cool is how the black crazies took advantage of the ant tower opening and were scavaging nesting material from fire alley. Would say they are creative as well.

Invasive ants vs Invasive ants is always interesting to watch. Both Fire Ants and Black Crazy Ants are master invaders and both species often outcompete native ants due to their adaptability, growth rate, and aggressiveness. But when Invaders go up against Invaders it’s always an interesting situation to watch because it gives us a chance to see just who is the more supreme ant species.

Hey @AntsCanada, I'm planning to start a Carpenter Ant colony in a couple months (since they're native to Minnesota, and MN laws forbid the import of non-native ant species), currently I live in a studio apartment, and I want to make a custom enclosure for them. What medium will work for them, if any? This is the only thing I need an answer to at the moment, just so I can track down a supply of the stuff.

Amazing content, keep up the good work. You deserve your own documentary show, yk how to keep it interesting.

Recently, I found a yellow crazy ant queen and was forced to release it by my parents, I tried to convince them that it was a species that was not native. But it didn't work. So now there is a yellow crazy ant queen somewhere in our neighborhood. Love ur vids!

Thank you! Eeek! I'm so excited for the new Queen! I hope she gets to have many healthy babies. I've never seen that ant ever, not even in documentaries. They look like the perfect ants stuffed toys.

I thought you might find this interesting or even have an answer. I live in Central Florida, dealing with fire ants is constant but a few years ago an unknown variety of black ants moved in.They were everywhere, seemingly to wander over every surface by the thousands. They would be crossing sidewalks, driveways, grass and even your feet in droves. Many neighbors noticed the same thing and even though they didn't appear to bite, they were creeping out some residents. This continued for two years and I noticed during those years, no fire ant colonies appeared in our neighborhood but travel several blocks away and you could see the tell-tale mounds of vibrant fire ants. Now they appear to have moved on and we see fire ant colonies returning. I now am wondering if these are crazy ants, why were they successful in driving out the fire ants and why? Note: I no longer remember but I believe a lot of those black ants walked around with their rear abdomen held up.

Where I live in Florida, the invasive black crazy ants and fire ants share resources, unless the crazy ants are in an arboreal nest. If they build a terrestrial nest though, they basically dominate the fire ants into working for them inatead of killing them outright
