As a person of colour, Ingrid's "racism" caught my eye and is kind of a hot topic for me. Here's my take on it: First off, I think using the word "racist" to describe Ingrid is inaccurate. As touched on in the video, racism typically comes from a belief in one race's inherent superiority/inferiority. As seen in Ingrid's Dedue support, that's not really where Ingrid's coming from. So, literally speaking, she's not racist. If anyone's racist in the game, it's actually Hilda, but she legitimately doesn't know better, so whatever. What she DOES do, is discriminate, harboring a hatred of an entire people and treating someone of that people poorly because of it. Discrimination is a common result of racism, but the two aren't completely interchangeable. And let's not get it twisted, that disdain sticks. I see people defending her say that she's not really like that and grows completely past it in her support with Dedue, but I really don't think that's the case. Moreso, she learns to separate that from how she treats Dedue. She says the people she really hates are "The ones responsible for that whole mess" and that Dedue just "Got caught up in all of it", but that's not the same as saying she's over her feelings towards the Duscur people. Sadly, we never see her interact with another Duscur (Duscan? Idk) so it's hard to say she's not just making an exception. Frankly, Ingrid's discrimination is probably my favourite thing about her (besides being a dope unit). While she's aware that her attitude is unjustified and straight up wrong (and also a pretty shitty trait for someone who wants to be a knight), and that Dedue doesn't deserve her harshness right from the start, she can't help it because of her history, so while's it's irrational and unfair, it's understandable, and adds some intrigue to a character I otherwise don't care about tbh. So it really bothers me when people "defending" Ingrid try to downplay it, or say it just goes poof in her Dedue support, because it just robs her character of an interesting, humanising conflict. I get that you don't want your favourite character to be associated with something as socially reviled as racism, but you do them a disservice by whitewashing them (Pun very much intended)

I like ingrid's post-time skip design a lot, especially the transition from long to short hair. Short hair is usually associated with wild and boyish girls while long hair is usually associated with mature and womanly girls. The fact that she changes from long to short hair communicates to me that she's more confident about her boyish nature and knightly ambitions than pre timeskip, who, considering her bad fashion sense, most likely had such greatly stylized long hair because her parents asked her to in an effort to make her more womanly so she could be a great wife. Regardless of how attractive I think either version makes her, I think both are fitting in their own way.

The name Ingrid has three pronunciations. The Swedish, Norwegian and German/Dutch version. The Swedish version is the oldest one and the one used in the game. Ironically this means Mekkah, Myself and Mangs were all wrong with out original pronunciations.

Ingrid is basically similar to Oboro from Fates: A lance-user who learned the ways of that weapon after the deaths of someone close to them at the hands of people from an opposing nation, which they come to have hatred for thanks to those deaths. (Ingrid losing Glenn at the Tragedy of Duscur, Oboro’s parents being killed by Nohrian bandits). They’re also very close friends/retainers to their nation’s royal prince. The only difference is that Oboro’s all about fashion and appearance while Ingrid could care less about such things.

Sounds like someone doesn't like physic healers for some reason. If you're saying Marianne is a bad unit then either you don't like healers or you've never played around with pegasus knight levin sword and magic bow Marianne in Maddening Mode. Marianne may not be as fast as Ingrid but her high decent crit and higher magic growths let her do way more damage than Ingrid can with the right set up, and that's not even covering her insane physic range. And once Dark Flier get's add, oh boy it's a wrap.

Ingrid was easily one of the MVP of my first BL run. She constantly got 6-7 stat levels as a Falcon Knight and ended with roughly 45 or so Strength without stat boosters. I knew I picked the right girl to marry as soon as I saw her design.

I honestly like that Ingrid is such a straight-forward character. Like Mangs said, there's nothing wrong with having a character be more standard as opposed to complex and Ingrid still works fine bouncing off the more complex cast members like Sylvain and Dorothea - Also, I like the comment of Ingrid potentially being an enabler for Sylvain's philandering. In that light, you could argue that Ingrid is a bit more naive than she might think herself to be given how such "help" rarely does much good in the long run, especially since Sylvain himself admits that he hates breaking the hearts of girls he dates and likely would have benefitted from having to face more of the consequences

Fair assesment of Ingrid. Currently on BL maddening, I'd also say she's one of the units you need to baby early game. The shaky hit and damage at the start do not do her favors.

I would say that Ingrid is one of the best units for maddening if you recruit her from another house right before the time skip. While leveling in the Pegasus class she gets the amazing enemy growth rates. It gives her 60% strength 70% speed 55% defense and 65% resistance.

I would say if you have a lot of Mythril give Ingrid gradivus. Hands down on her it's amazing. she was one of my first recruits when i played Golden Deer and on the final map she was my MVP. she just dodged everything and with Gradivus being a 2 range weapon, it was just a beautiful sight to behold.

Ingrid has been one of my favourite FETH characters since the beginning- she also turned out a falcon knight on steroids in my first blue lions playthrough. Love her.

I like Ingrid, but in terms of best girl for Blue Lions, Annette has no competition. She's just absolutely adorable and I love her. Her supports with Felix are among my favorite in the game, and her support chain with Gilbert is heartbreaking. I also got very strong feelings when I first saw her post-timeskip. The cute little singing girl really grew up gorgeous.

I'm just Sad that we couldn't have the Chance to see how Glenn might have looked like just like they showed us Dimitri's Father. I'm surprised. After playing through all of the playthroughs I have gotten a good understanding. Even characters that I disliked at first like Hilda, Lorenz, Caspar and Lysithea grew on me. I was kinda surprised because the more I played the better of an understanding I got of the true meaning or their actions and personality. Even Seteth grew on me! 😳 Now I wonder what other characters I never fully understood from the other fire emblem games.

About the Ingrid/racism thing, I think maybe it could have worked better if the people of Duscur were removed from her dislikes after the time skip to show that she is maturing and doesn't blame them for Glenn's death anymore. Or maybe it could change after unlocking her supports with Dedue.

It's okay we forgive you :D Though tbh, Ingrid's probably my least favorite of the BL cast, which is a shame because she can snowball into being like your second best unit on that route. I really, really, really hated her support with Dedue (Hahah she's the CEO of rascism lol jk) and I already didn't like her schtick of being the stern naggy one of the Faerghus four. But I know she's got a lot of fans and I'm happy for her. I mean it's not everyone can be as glorious as Marianne am I right ;)

On maddening I found her best role was as a dodge tank. I wouldn't bother teaching her death blow as it doesn't help on enemy faze. It's to bad they don't have an enemy faze version of the skill. My maddening build for her: Lance and sword prowess with sword and axe breaker plus alert stance and she proved to be one of my most reliable units. That being said, I had her train as an assassin for awhile to help her speed. The lack of an advanced tier pegasus knight is anoying.

When it comes to Ingrid's "racism", I think it's just because they needed SOMEONE to act that way towards Dedue, as it's very important to his character. Felix wouldn't have fit as he takes his pain out on his father, so Ingrid was the logical choice. It doesn't matter if it's justified or not, because in the end she admits she's wrong and grows to genuinely respect Dedue.

My Ingrids have always gotten strength screwed. I've used her...3 times by now I think, and I've benched her every time because I just cant get her to do damage for whatever reason. Unfortunately, those experiences have heavily colored my view of her...

Ah yeah I get you. I set her down Pegasus knight on my first 2 playthroughs and found her underwhelming too die to the low strength. This time I went down the brigand, wyvern path and she's way better but even still I find her above average at best.

@@Ochain To fix her strength, you should always train in axes, go Brigand for Death blow and then back to Pegasus for Darting blow, at lv 20 you should have C+ in axes for the Wyvern exam, put her in Wyvern for 18 base strength and 10% extra strength growth, after 10 lv ups at lv 30, because of Wyvern growth, she will on average have 23 base strength, reclass her into FalconKnight and she'll have 24 strength+Lancefaire's 5 extra dmg+Death blow's 6 extra dmg+almost guaranteed doulble because of her insane speed and Darting blow+a very good Relic lance, it's enough for Hard mode and decent for Maddening, give her a few stat boosters and she'll be fine for endgame.

However, when I first played the game when it was released, I wasn't quite aware of all the intricacies, and so Ingrid sort of just fell flat. If I play blue lions again, I'm certain that she will turn out much better for me. However, those previous experiences that I had have colored my perception of her in a negative way. Therefore, even though I know there are many ways to reduce her liability to be strength screwed, I always carry those experiences in the back of my mind. I dont really have an issue with Ingrid's hatred of Duscur. I dont endorse it but I sort of understand where she is of coming from. My issue with her is basically is similar to Felix in that she'd would blindly follow her commander even if it puts those she cares about in danger. While it is important as a soldier to follow orders, it's also important to think for yourself and recognize a bad commader when she sees one. I understand that the scenario that she and Felix discuss is a bit too vague, the only way I would be able to justify following that commander and endangering my hometown would be if there really was no safer option. Otherwise, i would feel like the commander is just bad at tactics and thus unfit to lead people into battle. I could be wrong though... im far from a master in tatics.
