Am I the only one who legit enjoyed the story and Corrin? Yes, it's hardly perfect, but I think fans like to overblow the issues regarding Conquest's story. +BoltOfMight as someone with the Japanese version, I can say yes to everything, but also remember that the cost is almost double because you need a Japanese 3DS. the game is amazing as it is. there's nothing Nintendo could do to ruin the core, however they did cut the fat and some other things that really were just options. We like our options. Added content that can easily be avoided or can only add to the game was thus removed... So at it's core, it is great. But looking at everything, it's a cut piece.

Excactly. And personaly, I enjoyed Seizo and Beruka's first apparantly censored support. They are both dead serious characters. There personality resolves around training and work. Beruka is more or less the seizo of Nohr. They both are lacking with there social skills, which is not a bad thing. So when the two most serious people of the story went into there first conversation, I excpated nothing else. I even laughed out lout. I pictured it as them passing each other in a long halway.

I love this game so much. I know many people didn't like the story, but I related to the main character (corrin) even if others saw her as shallow and boring. I've been in the same situations as her where the gravity of abusive people pulls you to do things you don't want to do, and the whole thing about different paths and perspectives is really enlightening. Also love Leo and Kaze lol

This game is really good. Full of fun characters, beautiful soundtrack. And really fun support conversations. It pains me to see al the hate. Oké I get it. Some might preffer the other games. But this game is a masterpiece on itself. And personaly I enjoyed Corrin's personality. I know that people felt it lacking. But the game and the progression wouldn't happen without Corrin's naivity. Corrin was a pure person and had a pure heart. Thats the reason why his siblings trusted him so much. He didn't have a spick of dust on his golden heart. He wanted the best for everyone, even at the cost of himself. And his siblings knew this. edit: And about his 'naïvity'. Corrin lived his entire life, before the game as a sheltered kid for crying out loud. He even forgot about his closest childhood friend. The only people he interacted with were his Nohrian siblings and his rentainers, who were all extremely nice towards him. That's the world he grew up in.

I like how the 3 seperate stories actually combine to create the full story. Conquest and Birthright shed 2 lights on the same situation, which is pretty nice. However, there is still the 'true' path coming. Revelations adresses those plot points that were missed in both versions (Invisible soldiers and such), and really gives you a sense of completion when you find out the story.

I enjoyed the review. It adressed everything that i needed to know about the game and the reason to buy it or not. And i felt heart-broken when i learned that the English version wouldn't get the Jappanese audio. I had so much fun pretending that FE:Awakening was an anime. And now... that feeling is lost :-(

Fire Emblem Conquest feels like a true successor to my personal favorite entry in the series; Thracia 776. The game is notorious for having difficult missions though most of them are manageable if you prepare accordingly. Plus Conquest offers a unique spin to the plot where you are clearly aiding the true villain in some perspective, rather than being a member of an army of peace-loving two-dimensional heroes. Sorry Lobster Lord, but Birthright is the equivalent to Awakening.

I'd argue Birthright is better than Awakening, better story, new mechanics, balanced pair-up, etc. Although it's not as good as Conquest in terms of gameplay due to Birthright's abundance of Rout or Kill Boss objectives as well as Grinding and poor map design.

I think the idea of aiding the villains in a fire emblem game could be interesting. This; however, isn't. Mainly due to the protagonist and other issues with the story/characters/etc. I will admit that the idea is worth exploring again but it needs to be a "yes we are evil" and not a "we work for the bad guy but we don't want to harm innocents". Aside from that, Conquest will probably be more interesting to play than Birthright.

After having beaten birthright and now working on conquest, I was immediately drawn into conquest more because the story felt better and the characters like arthur were much more interesting to me. Edit also would like to mention how they changed how pairing up works now in this game from awakening. in fates when you pair up by joining units together the second unit is support that prevents the second attack in a teamup from hurting you, with a meter that builds until it can turn blue where at that point for one turn the support unit prevents all damage from attacks even from teamups. Another way is what I like to call team up where the units are side by side to each other, in this form the unit one space next to you will provide an attack for help instead of defending you in support. so now you have to choose which method you want, team ups will not prevent damage. Just an interesting change. You can break enemy unit armor which can reduce their stats in various ways depending on th eclass which is a new addition. Lastly I would like to point out that there are new seals. heart seals are like secondary seals in awakening when you can change a secondary class to any other secondary, the only difference this time around is that it does not reset your new class to level 1 but carries over the level from the previous class. Master seals are exactly the same and will reset your level 1. However there is the addition of friendship seals, offspring seals, and spouse seals. friendship allows one character to change theirs to that of whoever they get an A+ relationship with (which is basically same-sex S ranks), offspring seals allows the child to change his class to a primary one and keep his level, and the spouse seal is like the friendship seal only with S rank.

I Just finnished the Japanese version of conquest, I had played birthright already, given that I got into fire emblem since awakening I played both in casual-Phoenix mode, yes even thought I played in the Phoenix mode I still had some trouble in some stages in conquest, I loved both stories and how they kind of reference each other (MILD SPOILERS AHEAD) like in conquest Nishiki (the fox spirit) says he wishes he could have gotten to know corrin, and in birthright he joins your team, I loved both sides of the story, it felts kind of like two different games with the same cast

Goddamnit! I am new to the series, Awakening was the first one i played and I LOVE IT. Sadly there is no release date fro either Birthright nor Conquest in the EU yet. But what really bother me is that Conquest is the harder one that boils down more to pure tactical skill as you, apparently, cant really grind. For me as a beginner that is of course a huge deal, from what i have seen i like the story and characters of Conquest way more, but i'll have to play Birthright first, in order to get some more much needed training, so that i'll be able to even finish conquest.

What's your favorite (or least favorite) change in Fates? My favorite change is the revamped Pair Up system. It's less (how to put it...) luck based. In Awakening it was completely up to chance if a supporting character dual attacked or dual guarded. Granted, those chances can become very high but my point stands regardless. I just prefer the dual guard bar in Fates since it can be more skill based. What I don't like about it though is how attacks that won't damage you are still blocked regardless and wasting the dual guard bar (that's costed me a few units before). To be fair though, Dual Attacking isn't as useful as Awakening, well for me it isn't since I always pair up my units.

+TheNumber1Bacon I say dual attacking is really useful for me. without it, I wouldn't be able to ORKO incoming enemies and on conquest with just pairing up. and on some maps, being able to effectively eliminate enemies quickly is pretty key on conquest. I really only use pair up as a defense measure so only a few units is really paired up in my playstyle while mostly everyone else is in attack stance.

I pre-ordered to have a special edition of all 3 games, but they don't know when it will be released here or for how much. And the biggest fight in my head is what order I will play the games. I really want to play Conquest, but since it is harder I should probably play it second, and if I choose to be different gender in the games I will probably play female first in Birthright so I can be male in Conquest. And then what to do in Revelations? Well maybe I can finish the last few chapters of Awakening first.

I am so pumped for this game. Awakening is my favourite 3DS game, and from the reviews I've read (barring Gamestop's shitty one) Fates is looking even better. Shame it's not out in Europe yet (I've heard it's coming late April, but I'm not sure). Still, I'll have Twilight Princess HD to play in the mean time.

I'm really torn on getting this. For me, weapon durability is like 90% of what I love about Fire Emblem. Micromanaging inventory in both the arsenal and other supplies is the most enjoyable thing to me about FE. I love the fact that you may need to plan ahead in terms of which weapons you use, to the point where your decisions in past battles can effect your future ones. The system of weapons having more varied strengths and weaknesses really turns me off, because it seems like the decision-making only effects the current battle. I really don't feel like I am just going to forget about its existence like the reviewer did, as I believe it to be the heart and soul of what FE is about. Beyond that, some of what he talks about that adds depth in Fates was already present in Awakening. Bronze weapons were always more accurate in exchange for being weaker.

So Bronze Weapons are pretty much the Slim Weapons from the older games? By the way, Fire Emblem Gaiden didn't have weapon durability either. It's a pretty clever feature, but at the same time annoying: I'm playing FE8 atm and the weps cost wayyy too much, my money goes down the drain every time I restock.

I do think though the accuracy of Bronze weapons onward would be dramatic, with Bronze ones being very good at hitting people just not damaging them quite as much. and upgrades giving you more damage output though successful are incredibly less likely to hit.

Just did some research, weapons as a whole have various impacts and quirks that make them stand out as unique, it's surprisingly well-inplemented. Example being, Bronze weapons can't crit but it's harder to get critted, Steel weapons are powerful but harder to double with, etc. Not to mention they changed the weapon triangle.

Yeah, I'll admit that they tried to add more depth to weapon choices to counter-balance the usage removal. I just, can't see myself liking it. I get so much enjoyment out of shopping around in Awakening and such. I have more fun with inventory management than I do with the battles themselves. I don't much care for the level of strategy/tactics as a whole; I want them to be balanced between your out-of-battle strategies and your in-battle decisions. This new system mostly removes the former aside from health potions and such, and replaces it with more in-battle decisions. I don't like how lopsided that seems.

Interesting. Thank you for the in depth explanation of some of the changes to the mechanics. Its interesting they removed weapon durability. Its something I liked about the originals. But the fact that different types, like bronze and steel have nuanced performance differences in battle seems like a good replacement and tradeoff.

Question: I just got past the branch of fate, and I now know the branch of fate option in the main menu is opened up if you wana go back and play the other path. The question I ask: Is there a difference between the branch of fate option or starting from a chapter 6 save slot (outside of the chance to change your character's appearance)?

I'm probably gonna skip out on the conquest edition, or at least wait until i've played birth right and revelations first. I'm doing this for two reasons. the first is that I'm not very good at strategy games, so hopefully the other 2 versions will help me prepare. My second reason is that it's BLATANTLY obvious that Nohr is bad, and Hoshido is good. If i play conquest last, I'll be able to look at it as a "what if?" scenario instead of as one of the main choices.

I have always been afraid to try fire emblem due to its combat system, for example, at 7:30 how am I even supposed to know what to do? I wanna start fire emblem somewhere, I was gonna buy awakening but I decided not to, but I at least want to try a game out. There's just so much at the screen in some fights though, that I am afraid that I will get lost. I wanna choose Nohr if I decide to buy it, but the fact that you can't grind for XP turns me off, even though I like the characters of Nohr way more ;_;

+Isaxus In your case then, start with Birthright, as it's the easiest and more importantly, allows to grind EXP and resources. Fire Emblem is a francise where the combat system is pretty simple to get used to, but you HAVE to pay attention to the enemies' positions, which isn't very overwhelming if you're used to checking things. Remmember, it's a strategy game, so you just use your brain, and things will be a-okay.

+Isaxus Birthright has a better story. Conquest has better gameplay. Fire Emblem is just kind of like chess. You could download the free demo of Awakening or if you don't want to splash out too much cash on a game you might not enjoy, the older Fire Emblems are beginner friendly and are on the Wii U. Fire Emblem 7 has a through tutorial that explains most important mechanics apart from supports.
