This is amazing how many people I'm watching you drive past that are NOT moving for the sirens and lights. This is my biggest pet peeve. We nearly lost an engine and two FF's the other day because as we were making a turn with the lights and sirens on some guy thought he could squeeze in and sped up to get past us, nearly totaled the engine and would've probably killed himself in the process. Definitely a "near mis" thank God.

I love these videos, I think Firetrucks and Ambulances are cool. Firefighters and Paramedics are really modern day heroes, they help and rescue people everyday. When I'm driving and I see an ambulance or firetruck coming I immediately get the hell out of their way cause I know their in a rush so I can riiight over and put my single on and I'm like yeaaaaah, go go go go go help people.

I felt the same way, first call was a structure fire, we had to have 2 other departments come in. Well, I wasn't really in a fire engine, rode in one of our member's Jeeps, she brought me straight to the call since all of our guys had already gotten there.

Thanks for your response, I wasn't having a go at you as a driver, from what I have seen you are obviously a good considerate driver, a good deal better driver than some I have seen in the many cab ride videos posted. In terms of personal appearence I think how an individual looks (proper uniform/PPE) goes a long way towards giving the right impression to the public, the people we serve. I apologise if I offended you, my comment was more aimed at your FD's policy. 'I am cool'.

My first call was a wood chip fire. Captain told me to go join the crew that was STANDING on a BURNING pile of wood two stories high. I looked at it, literally said to myself, "I'm going to die," then hiked up that mound of fire.
@DieselFrdChikn12 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for your comment Ash. You're correct on the "Q". It is in fact a round pad on the left floorboard that you'd modulate with foot pressure. Next to the Federal Q pedal immediately to its left is the air horn pedal as well. Unfortunately however our horn's air supply mechanism was malfunctioning that shift. Pete
@DieselFrdChikn13 жыл бұрын
@MilitarysBestPilot Both front occupants can operate the Q via two pads located on the left sides of the foot wells. Next to those pads are the air horn pads as well. Most officers usually let the driver operate the Q at their own discretion.

@DieselFrdChikn14 жыл бұрын
@Dthorn912 This engine was a hand-me-down from a busier station. It's worn, though it's not in terribly bad condition. The air horn air supply could be better but with judicious use, it's effective enough. We've passed up an opportunity for a newer 2005 Pierce from another station simply because our 2002 Pierce is one of the last engines in our department that's still equipt with a conventional booster hose reel.

@JuzG85 Thanks! You guys have features on your rigs that we would like to have as well. We always get nasty thunderstorms during the middle of summer here in Georgia. Nowadays it's almost a matter of when and not if you'd become involved in a traffic accident while enroute to a call. Standing on that federal Q sure gets everyone's attention though.

Our Federal Q's air supply mechanism was badly malfunctioning. It sounded like a wounded goose the whole shift. When it does work, the thing's pretty loud. Our dept prefers us to keep a close ear on radio traffic so we don't use the Q any more than necessary. Thanks for the props and your comments.

@EightOneZero Thanks! It's always a pleasure to receive comments from other fire guys out there. The storms had gotten so bad that day that every nearby unit were away on calls. We were heading to territories 17-25 km out from our own. Normal response times for our units average around 4 minutes. You're very fortunate to work in such a beautiful region. I trust you don't get the same kind of nasty electrical storms as we do in July.
