Fire hydrants running dry in SoCal fires raise local water supply concerns

There's a famous fire hydrant named "the Little Giant" near Dolores Park in San Francisco that provided water to the fire fighters after the 1906 earthquake when most hydrants weren't working in the neighborhood. It's painted gold.

'I lived on Maui. . . and Maui Fire Dept, uses helicopters and fire trucks to fight fires. The trucks fill out of hydrants, the 'helos' use ocean water! They would fly right offshore, dip the big bag under the helo in the ocean and fly right up to the fire and dump repeatedly until the fire was out! Its been several years since I lived there but I bet they still do the same method on big fires, using both helicopters and fire apparatus to jointly firefight.

I bet non-wood frame houses, with more clay or steel roofs, with fire shutters even, will be the choice for those wanting to rebuild... Dumb to build a frame with wood there... You got to treat the potential as a "will happen again" scinerio..

About the empty reservoir, fire fighting budget being cut, low pressure or no pressure hydrants, and other fire related issues. In the future, anything that government officials plan to do with water, in any way, have the Fire Chief "sign off" and "agree with" any plans that are made regarding water in any way.

San Francisco is covered. The fire system has its own reservoir. There are tanks enough if you link them together.
