Fire in the garage

The concept of this video was not to demonstrate fire response and system operation. My doors do not unlock upon a fire alarm activation as for the security risk that would cause being the system is spread out through different buildings some of which are not locked therefore giving full access into the garage building. The security risk is much higher than the fire risk in a sprinklered building with a fire alarm system in place and monitored by myself.

That’s interesting. Here our magnetic locks on our office doors are required to unlock if the fire alarm is going off at my office. I hate it. We had a false alarm that didn’t notify the FD, but the alarm was going off locally. So, the system unlocked the front and back doors of the building in the middle of downtown for about 5 hours until someone bothered to call me.

Ok i did my alarm a little different for my building the door locks will only open if a smoke detector activates if a pull station activates they stay secured. Now i don’t have magnetic holders on my doors

What I learned from this is you should probably have relays to release the locks when the smokes (or better yet, heats) are triggered so you or the fire department could get in quickly if it were a real fire.

Most businesses I inspect in the field have the doors set to unlock to allow people on the inside to easily get out as well as emergency personnel get in. Some jurisdictions are requiring it for any facility without a Knox box now. If someone is looking to break in, they're not going to be able to trip a fire alarm very easily without already being in the building anyway so not much security risk there.

@@tylerhoffman8491 none of the doors in this building being locked restrict your ability to exit they all mechanically unlock no matter what state the control is in. the issue is with this system if you were in the main space you could easily activate the fire alarm to gain access into the storage room and there are also other buildings that could set off the fire alarm system to gain access into the main building

How did you make it look like the sprinkler was dumping water everywhere? Also, if the sprinkler in your garage storage closet went off for a real fire, how would you get into your garage? wouldn't the access control box would be covered in water and likely not work?

The access control would probably work just fine people seem to think water is a bigger problem than it often times actually is it's not saltwater so it's not guaranteed to be conductive enough to cause problems and even if it was that's why there's mechanical override on every door
