I wore the VHS tape of this out from watching it so much as a kid. And now I’ve got 22 years in the fire service and this movie was a big reason as to why I wanted to be a firefighter

For me it was this, along with the movie Ladder 49. Watched the DVD of ladder 49 so often that it was eventually "lost" 🤣 Nowadays, I'm coming up on 5 years of service as an "On-Call" firefighter in my town, and am the 5th generation of my family to become a firefighter.

I also watched this a lot! Now I’m a 4th year Fire Cadet and I’m in school to get my EMT certification.

Thank you all that continued on, and I chose that work as a padded professional Let's not forget the volunteer who have to spend so much of there time training in the new environment issues of Haz-Mat being just one of the special training that a volunteer does when they spend so much of there off regular work time to broaden there skills. And in 2024 the EMS ( mainly drug ODs) calls that amount for so many call outs. For myself, I spent my entire work job doing the silent service of FF worked WATER utilities. Now, in retirement, I bought a 1989 Spartan Gladiator pumper with a W-S Darley 1500 GPM pump. Its power is a Silver 92 series Detroit Diesel ( turbo)with an Allison 4 automatic transmission with a manual Retarder engine brake switch. 😊 She has some repairs I need to address in the piping. One is a cracked in tank to pump housing, and a pre- connect on cross bed won't shut off. The water TANK doesn't have any leaks (great thing) 😊❤😊 removed all the Airpack tanks from the side compartment and filled it up with fire extgishers. I kept two in (4) man inclosed jump seats for static displays. The big one was removing the officers Airpack set up in the officers seat. My wife wanted that gone first. And boy doesn't know how driver saw out of officers side rear mirror. With an officer and his bunker gear ( turnouts) on me as a driver, could NOT see the mirrors. My wife hated that padded back airpack set up in the seat. 😊 love doing public events or open houses at different FDs in my area. Take her to our Friday night summer old car and music set up local wrecking yard owner does The car guys like when I tilt the cab to show that big DD eng with the huge turbo 😊 The kids at public events love getting in the drivers seat and pretending to drive her, with parents taking pictures of their future FF. That how I try and promote kids of all ages to look at FF as a possible forever job in their future working life.

When I was kids firefighters were my heroes. My mom would rent fire trucks VHS tapes from the library. “Fire & Rescue” was easily my favorite. I just loved Fred Levine’s show don’t tell approach to filming. The fires and rescue scenes look so realistic and the music makes you feel like you’re a part of the action.

At 23:51, this 1991 Kovatch was used like a pack mule.... All the way up until a few years ago when it was finally retired from Trenton, NJ. Now, note some dubbed-in Hollywood siren SFX (notably the PA300 from Die Hard) and a bizzare jump cut from Montpellier, Vermont (alarm sounds...) back to Trenton, NJ. This video does not hold up well in the editing department.

the station wagon with the overhead light bar looks top heavy 😃
@MaxZomboniАй бұрын
If it were up to me emergency vehicles today would be required to use those same light bars, instead of the junk they use now. In those days I always saw the lights before I heard the sirens. Today even with my bad hearing I'm more likely to hear the sirens and air horns before I see the lights. Cool thing about revolving lights is that the emergency vehicles didn't even have to be in view to know they were there. If you were getting ready to make a blind turn, you knew something was up around the corner even before you turned, just by the light beams bouncing off of everything. Now you make a turn and suddenly see emergence vehicles parked in the middle of the street right in front of you.
@cat275hpАй бұрын
The station wagon was not a chiefs car, it was the fire inspectors car. Used it as a prop in the movie. In fact, the voice that dispatches the companies to the water rescue is the fire inspector talking from the radio in that car.

7:10 "Rock Garden" from Killer Tracks/Universal Production Music... I heard this a lot, especially on NASCAR events on TNN (Paramount Network) and TBS back in the late 90s... Primarily used for commercial lead-ins and lead-outs. Heck, It was also on the 1997 Pennsylvania 500 qualifying session on Fox Sports Net* (which was produced by TBS and TNN's race producers at the time... World Sports Enterprises, which was shut down in 2000 after TBS and TNN left NASCAR due to the new 2001-06 contracts that involved NBC, and its new race producer TNT, plus the debut of Fox and its then sister channel, FX)

Two things. Music? And currently going through firefighter 1 and seeing this for the first time I am glad that safety was taken seriously. Opening that many vents literally feeds the fire and makes it worse. Also lack of SCBA usage near the IDLH. Guess that's exactly why the best of the best are called Smoke Divers

Much nicer equipment then the slow, oversize, bloated apparatuses firefighters use today. I miss watching firefighters arrive at a fire scene forward laying the hoses as they arrive and coming off the trucks in full gear ready to start fighting the fire the second their feet touch the ground. 🚒😎👍

I remember when they filmed this... I had 1 year on the job. The senior guys didn't treat the 2 actors well (the guy narrator with the mustache and the girl throwing the baseball) because they were walking around the firehouses in class-B uniform wearing the badge. The senior guys said they didn't earn the honor to wear the badge & uniform! BTW... @ 22 min, the actor came out of the utility closet to enter the kitchen LOL.
