considering all the characters can use actual magic, albeit in very tame ways, and they fight mutated monsters and magical monsters, the amount of realism even in more unrealistic guns is astounding.

It fits the fiction, though. It aligns with Secondary Belief, which is basically how Tolkien describes his worldbuilding process/desire. The fictional world operates on its own set of rules, no matter how ludicrous, but must follow them exactly, else the illusion is broken. So, Hunt: Showdown exists in a world with magic and monsters, but firearms technology maintains basically what it is in the real world. This makes for a more enjoyable game, and is quite ludonarratively satisfying. Magic feels more magical, the player feels more skilled, and the monsters feel more dangerous.

What would be the risk of being sued? I've seen games straight-up tell their name with no alterations (Receiver 2, for example) and I haven't heard of the associated companies being sued.
@LET4M4RU3 жыл бұрын
@@popcornegg4405 The risk is actually huge. See, to use a brand name, you actually need to have a commercial agreement with it. With lots, and I mean *lots* of paperwork, bipartite terms of condition and so on. Especially because, well, many companies don't want to be associated with games that may or may not depict something they're not really ok with (think of Spec Ops- The Line's main story with *realistic* use of White Phosphorus and thus display of gruesome, first degree civilian mass manslaughter. Not something Colt or Beretta would be ok with being associated with). Moreover, some games would actually use the brand name as an add or a partnership. So there's money to be made for the brand and the video game studio. And trust me, when a company can't make money off something they usually have full control on, they cannot be happy. Since the firearms manufacturers are very powerful entities in the business world, especially in the USA where most shooter games are made and thus where lawsuits would defenitely be issued, the risk for the video game editors are humongous. We're talking millions of dollar-grade kind of lawsuits, for unlawful use of brand name and brand identity, for commercial use. That doesnt mean a game cannot have brand names for their firearms. Call of Duty had famously made a deal with Remington Arms to display the Remington name and logo on their R5. I don't especially know Receiver 2 but I do note that it is a simulator based especially on (and I quote) " based on manufacturer schematics and gunsmithing resources", since I see the term "manufacturer" in their description, I can only guess they have a deal with those said manufacturers to exploit the brand names :)
