To clarify, guys, I do know that "Volkssturmgewehr" means "Volksturm...gewehr" and not "Volkssturmgewehr". I've explained that myself many times. I was attempting to explain the same thing and stated "people's assault rifle" for that reason and the edit makes it seem as though that's how *I* was translating it. Not Gamespot's fault - I ramble on for ages and they have to cut it into something watchable :)

To be clear - they didn't butcher the line at all - I did say it. I just went on to clarify the origin of the name and that was one of many things cut for time.

Hey Jonathan, I'd just like to say that the Krag-Jørgensen is a Norwegian design, it's just that the Danes adopted it first. The model seen in BF5 though is a Norwegian M/1894 long rifle. Scoped versions of the M/1894 did exist for military use, but not very many were made.

The krag's advantage is that it's easier to load with frostbitten fingers. There is no need for fumbling with the bullets or a clip to guide them correctly into the gun. You can just have the bullets loose in the palm of your hand and let them roll into the internal magazine, there is no need to use your fingers to load it.

Technically, the Volkssturm Gewehr (or MP507) is gas delayed, but in practice, it turns out to be more of a gas buffering system, allowing for weaker recoil springs to be used. It does still reduce the required reciprocating mass by 100g (1.4 instead of 1.5kg).

I thought the volks sturmgewehr was gas pressure locked, like the H&K P7. Basically a gas tap directly in front of the chamber fills that barrel sleeve with gas and keeps the bolt froward and chamber sealed until the round leaves the barrel and gas pressure drops. Then the sleeve and bolt can move back and cycle. There are no locking lugs like a traditional rifle, but it is technically a delayed blowback I guess.

First things first it was an amazing and interesting video as well as all your videos are. But there is one thing on the Volkssturmgewehr you said I was sure its different. You said the bolt was just delayed by it's mass. As far as I know it was delayed by a so called "Schwabenbremse". There should be holes in the barrel which allows the expanding gases to flew into this enormous barrel jacket and push it forwards which prevent it and the bolt to move backward until the projectile has passed the muzzle. There is the german company HZA Kulmbach which reproduc this weapon and some more after the original blue prints. But as I said in the beginning great videos and please keep going on. Greetings from Germany.

I'd love to see Johnathan react to the GR: Breakpoint's weapon stats. A .50 cal rifle being put down as a .338. 🤣

I'd love to see Jonathan's take on some of the guns in the Destiny games. Be it the foundry weapons or some of the exotics.

The Vickers G.O and the Lewis Gun had the same kind of magazine with that drum you smack on the top of the gun. Were the two guns related other than that?

I think Jonathan forgot to mention that the Volkssturmgewehr rifle is actually a gas-delayed blowback, so it's actually not just the spring and the mass of the "slide" that keep the gun closed. IIRC, the barrel vents into the slide at some point, with the gases pushing against the slide, therefore slowing it down.

He calls it the "Danish Krag-Jørgensen" but the Krag-Jørgensen is Norwegian, and the variant modeled in game is a Norwegian M/1894. It was adopted in Denmark first though. It was also adopted and used for a while by the USA, surprisingly enough.
