Companies love Right to Work law when it works to their advantage

Completely agree with your message here. What grinds my gears is when HR or management routinely says "we're a family at ABC trucking Co." and "we look out for each other". Employers straight up lie and gaslight employees to give them a false sense of security. I even told the HR staff at one company to stop the family slogan routine because it was insulting and dishonest.

^This^ The look on peoples face when I tell them "Never work for a company that says they treat you like family, Because they will!" The worst places I worked for said we were a big family.

One company I worked for blamed me for something that broke which I had no control over, something that wasn't my fault, then tried to make me pay $2,000 of my own money for it. Total kangaroo court. I could have gotten a lawyer & sued them but I knew I likely wouldn't have come out on top. when I quit they had the nerve to ask me why I'm leaving and reiterated "we're a family here" and tried to guilt trip me saying stuff like "we're trying to keep turnover down" (3 out of 5 drivers they hired lasted only 6 months or less before they left including me)

Agreed. HR is never your friend. They always look out for the company.

At will employers don't have to give a notice other than notifying you that you're fired. And vice versa. You don't have to give a notice of resignation other than to say, "I quit!" BYE!

That's one thing that I learned, only one person is gonna look out for you, and that's the person you see in the mirror. Nobody else is gonna take of you, you gotta do for yourself. Where I'm at, employment is at will, they can let me go at anytime, I sure can leave them at anytime, end of story.

The one offering the job owns the career. Your job will go quicker than it was given, by that same career. Cents Per Mile (CPM) will always be told "your miles never matter." The career that is not on CPM always says that first because it was your hire not his. The career is compensated for it, the job is not compensated for it. So when you run a "fire-sale" on cpm and sign on's you also upset the apple-cart when the job is wiped and that driver is smoked out and ran over the coals by drivers hating other drivers to protect their own secured retirement newly assigned to them at the desk as a...Career.

If you as a driver needs to quit you need to be smart about it. Get your plan relayed in writing as an email to HR and dispatch. Don't count on a verbal from your dispatcher, they are not your friends. You need to have a good reason to drop the truck off at the terminal without them knowing you're leaving so the company doesn't dick around and keep you out for who knows how long.

Many small to medium sized companies are owned by hedge funds and lines of credit by a bank. More often than not the bank shuts off the credit line and the small to medium sized company is forced to immediately shut down and liquidate. It isnt the decision of the company it was the action of the 🏦 bank.

Honestly i absolutely HATE at will employment. Montana has it right. They are the only state that has Will employment which means companies cant just look at u and say " u gone u out." They need a good written explanation of why u have to be let go. I also believe there is a period before u get fired in montana.

If you’re a single guy best thing you can do is start your own company. Working to support someone else dream is a waste of time. But just not in trucking (sorry). Truckers don’t understand cost or how to value there time. Sometimes it’s better to sit and do nothing
