When I was 12 years old I was in a car accident It was me, my dad and little brother My father called 911 My little brothers injuries were to severe so by the time they got there it was to late for him I was barely responding My dad barely even a scratch I was in a 2 day coma For a long time my mother blamed the ambulance for not getting there in time 3 months after i woke up from my coma i met the firefighter that got me out Till this day i forgot to remember the firefighter that saved my life For years I've been extremely lost about what I want to do with my life But now it makes sense I want to be a fire fighter Just like the one who saved my life and be able to do the same for others who are in crisis

No it's not! Technically EMT isn't even required but sought after.
@imfreakinout21
@imfreakinout21 5 жыл бұрын
Technically no but I’ve visited multiple Cal Fire stations and talked to the captains there and they advise you to get your Academy out of the way because it’s way easier to get in. From what the captains told me it’s really competitive and they would rather hire someone who has the training so they don’t have to do it themselves.

imfreakinout21 that’s weird ive talked to fire paramedics and they say alot of departments dont want you to have any recent fire training because they want to train you the way they like. Like start on a blank slate. Idk but thats in Texas

When you accept a job offer from a large fire department, you are required to participate in their fire academy. This academy trains and prepares you for real life real world incidents and prepares you how to handle those incidents. They go over fires, Ems, hazmat, car accidents, CPR and other things. So yes fire academy is going to happen.
@Antonio-hr8ej
@Antonio-hr8ej 4 жыл бұрын
@tawn sawyer Yes! with a cal fire academy under my belt. It definitely helps to have an EMT at least and an academy. Most California academies include the wildland portion so you're eligible for Cal Fire.

Emt is emergency medical technician they are the first responders that respond to medical calls most firefighters now are required to be certified because most emergency calls aren’t fire related but medical. Firefighters respond to fires but medical emergencies.

Depends on where your from. California fire departments are very hard to get hired at and usually take a few years of trying and applying everywhere. Just test at as many departments as possible and keep taking classes.

@darshanmanhas2981
@darshanmanhas2981 4 жыл бұрын
Federico Vazquez you go through the same process as firefighters to get in. You do everything a normal firefighter would do, except you don’t get paid. It’s a good way to get in, where I’m from in Arizona there aren’t really any volunteer firefighters. Go to a local station and ask.
@federicovazquez9011

Darshan Manhas my town doesn’t have a volunteer firefighter but they do have a citizen fire academy. I was told that the place teaches basic fire safety once a week for 8 weeks. I don’t know if that’s a good place to start

Darshan Manhas but I do know my community college has a fire program so they have the courses necessary to complete a basic fire certification and once I do that, I can earn my way up to an associates of applied science in fire technology.

Do u need to have a bachelors in fire science to be a firefighter in Los Angeles?
@federicovazquez9011
@federicovazquez9011 4 жыл бұрын
There’s no requirement for a college education but it comes in handy if you want to enchance your education. An associates degree in fire tech seems to be enough but you could find bachelors degree that relates to fire tech (maybe chemistry or forest science). In the end it doesn’t matter how much college education for firefighter. As long as you have a combination of experience, education, and certifications, you could start off a good career in firefighting.

@federicovazquez9011
@federicovazquez9011 4 жыл бұрын
TalkyVal did you attend fire academy? Usually for someone who wants to start goes to an academy and gets their basic fire fighter certification so I guess that’s a good place to start but if you are wanting to get a college education in firefighter, I can only say find any college that offers an education for fire fighters. That’s all I can think of
@nvpguitar4591
@nvpguitar4591 3 жыл бұрын
No, but it could make you a more desirable applicant. It’s a very competitive department and a bachelors degree will give u an edge over those without one. Good luck!

Hi I’m also in Texas. Me being a certified firefighter and Emt the state requires you to have some sort of emergency medical background for many departments. If you google Texas commissions fire protection and look under the tab “Fido” then look at jobs, all the cities that are hiring will show you what they’re looking for. And to answer your 2nd question no you don’t have to take the Emt course. If you have any other questions keep asking, I’m here😉
