M Sal89 in Chicago if you have a family member who is currently in the department or retires or if you have Atleast 3 years active military you got put to the front of the list. I took the test and because I have no connections/military I was 6500 out of 8000 in my lottery pull it's been 3 years and still no call.

I think the fact that they have a very extensive&indepth background check is a good thing..It weeds out the potentially problematic individuals! .And I'm not sure fast tracking Ex Military is a good thing..if u have a former MP that's one thing,but infantryman..Not sure their specific skill set is appropriate when deal with Citizenry..Just my opinion no slight intended!

I have a great deal of respect for police officers, especially those at the municipal and county level. I could never do the job as I have witnessed far too many idiots that require the intervention of local law enforcement simply because they can't solve problems on their own, can't handle a little [ or a lot ] alcohol, and don't have even the slightest regard for anyone other than themselves. Academics are different for everyone. Some are smarter than others. However the true test is after graduation. In the academy you deal with lot of theory. However you are not home free yet. You still have to make it through field evaluation once you are assigned to your department. An FTO (field training officer) will be assigned to you to see if you have what it takes to be a street cop. If you fail here and manage to make it out alive of course your future as a cop is over.
