I'm really late to this, but this was really helpful. Thank you! I've been looking into this field as of lately. I would be coming from logging jobs with the USFS, to being contracted with a big Utility company doing veg management sitting on butt in my truck. I'm skinny, with no muscle on my body so that's something I would need to work out before the academy. Definetly not a lazy person on the job, would love being proactive at my station if I were to join on. I'm going to be taking the EMT program then hitting it from there. This call was really helpful to me, and opened my eyes to help me learn more about the job at hand. I used to be on crews so I'm used to that dynamic, but I'm still just trying to decide if this is for me. I'm married also, no kids.

Same here brother, been trucking for 5 years hauling everything and anything. I have always been at my happiest when being physically fit. This job makes it tough but I manage to maintain. I would love to get paid to be at my absolute best physical/ mental shape. All the while helping those who can’t help themselves. Starting EMT school in 2 weeks. Can’t wait to get after it.

Every time I’ve come to your channel, you’ve called me a future firefighter 👨🏾🚒. It now has come to fruition! I’ve officially been offered and will be a FF with SLCFD! Thank you brother! To all future firefighters out there: keep fight and never give up if you really want it!

Joined my local volunteer outfit, got signed up for Fire School in January. Been on a handful of calls on our rescue engine. I'm nervous about it, I'm 31, overweight and a smoker. 2 weeks smoke free now, starting to eat healthier, and just trying to get ready physically and mentally. Thanks for your video!

Thank you for posting this video! I am about to start Academy in January. It was extremely powerful to listen to your conversation and all of the various aspects you both touched on.

Great video! I love hearing about other people’s opinion and their story in the fire service. Thank you for sharing this with us

I totally agree. This is my favorite part of running the channel. Others testimony about the testing process and the job is very powerful. We all have different experiences and take different paths, so it’s nice to hear about others journey for sure. I have a lot more of these planned with other firefighters so stay engaged. Glad you liked it. Be safe out there and good luck 💪🏼

Happy I came across this video... somewhat in a similar boat - currently in a role I want to leave for a multitude of reasons. I've been in the fitness industry the last decade and in the new year I can have the opportunity to run my favorite (and very successful) gym with a large salary; I've also been a volunteer FF for about 2 years now and enjoy it. At the moment, if I pursued fire I would have a severe pay cut (15k-20k) during recruit school (could get that back as I begin shift work and find something to supplement that lower salary in my off time), but can't decide which route to take. Here is the conflict: Recruit school starts the same time the potential dream job would begin; if I pursued fire it would be a COMPLETE lifestyle change & a major paycut. I've been gunho about pursuing fire until the random dream gym job came about. Now I can't decide which direction to go in... hang on and stick to my roots and continue in the fitness industry (something I have a degree in, am good at, and have had a decade worth of development with) - or switch completely to fire service to explore this new passion of mine that has grown from volunteering... quite the pickle - I've grown to become a good FF and I feel I can make a strong impact! I'm 29 yrs old and feel the longer I push fire back, the less likely I'll pursue it... aging, about to be married & will want to have kids.. and the sleep deprivation is something I struggle with already (if I get less than 6/7hrs I am trash lol). Also, the $$ piece is huge... Any insight from this very small snapshot?

Its HUGE that you have solid passion about great career paths. I can understand your struggle forsure. At the end of the day you gotta do what is best for you and your future family. Fire offers great financial security and benefits for the family. But pursuing your fitness goal can yield a higher return from the info you've sent me. So with that being said IMO as long as your fitness stuff can continue to scale/grow or at least sustain & support you and your family I would pursue that. I am the type of person that wants to do everything in in my power to be home with my family and be on my own time (on my terms). Fire gave me a lot of time off only working 10 days out of the month but played a huge toll on my life as well (i.e. volunteer opportunities, promotional endeavors, lack of sleep especially having babies, lower pay which for me was great but I had other goals that i wanted to pursue that required more money [investing, business, etc], my wife didn't like the schedule, Dangerous work environment, & other variables. In this situation I see a fire career as a guarantee, which is HUGE especially when starting a family, but I see your fitness business being able to offer you a lot as well just with more uncertainty. This is all my opinion of course but I think you will be solid either way. Theres a lot of ways to make money in this life, I say pursue a career that brings you the most fulfillment and allows you to reach your own life goals 💪

Why would you pass the cpat and not get hired ?
@FirefighterAmbitions2 жыл бұрын
The CPAT is just a pass or fail phase in the overall testing process. There are other examinations that you must pass to have a shot at getting hired.
