One little tidbit that many people miss is that in her letter, Jayne's mother thanks him for sending money home, and that his brother Mattie was still sick (presumably with a long-term condition, similar to the Bodens in "The Train Job"). It could well be that, coming from what seems to be a loving but poor rural family, Jayne embarked on a life of crime to pay his brother's medical bills.

I always wondered if he'd been sending money for a long time, or if he started after his pangs of guilt after Ariel. Both would work for his character.

He also sees the body of a man in with a rough crowd just trying to get his family out of a bad place and wants to feel alive. He mentions to Shepard that men in his line of work don't usually live too long. He cries real tears for a man that could very well be him. He goes through a whole redemption arc in 1 season and a movie, and that's all I'm going to say about that.🤐🔐

I always felt that it, in part, explained Jayne's rather mercenaric attitude in most things. He's got family back home depending on money he sends back. That, as well as his own natural greed, highly motivates him.
@CaptainFrost323 жыл бұрын
My take on Jayne was he was the eldest son in a family of poor folk. He has mentioned his father "My pa always said 'A man will find work if he doesn't stop looking', And we ain't even looking." He mentioned his mother and sister. River seemed to read Jayne as not having Christmas. He had tried to snoop on what was under the tree, but someone had grabbed every bit of precious, (likely armbreakers working for loansharks who weren't paid in a timely fashion.) The mention of the sister having the damp lung : Aspergillosis is a condition caused by aspergillus mould. There are several different types of aspergillosis. Most affect the lungs and cause breathing difficulties. Signs and symptoms depend on which organs are affected, but in general, invasive aspergillosis can cause: Fever and chills. A cough that brings up blood (hemoptysis) Shortness of breath. Chest or joint pain. Headaches or eye symptoms. Skin lesions.

The scene where Mal and Zoe were telling Inara war stories is Inara's true job, to be a sympathetic ear without judgment. That is why Companions can charge so much. Sex is a relatively cheap thing, easy enough to find, but to feel somebody is actually listening to you, especially for the rich and powerful, who really can't trust anyone, that is a gift beyond measure to them. In Devil Woman's first appearance, Inara can tell right away that she has had Companion training but got kicked out for being unreliable and mercenary. Clients tell their Companions their deepest secrets, it would only work if they were totally trustworthy.

It's really well-written - except for the idiotic and utterly unnecessary last part. But the series had that problem a few times - horribly incompetent communication. One _very_ brief communication would have been enough to stop Tracey. But no, even with Kaylee's life in danger, _not one_ of the crew can open their damn mouths and just tell Tracey about the plan. Hell, even a "Mal's got a plan" would probably have been enough to get him to pause. Sorry, but even assuming Mal himself wouldn't say it out of some need for loyalty and obedience (his "it's my ship, I'm the boss" thing) - the others are still there, and know about the plan already.

Just have to love how "Bridgette" or "Saffron" and Mal draw weapons on each other, and Monty is just responding "so, you two have met?" River saying to Jayne "I can kill you with my brain" he has no clue what she is capable of, but probably he is about 300% freaked by that. I like to think that as far as Tracy's family knows, he got himself to Mal and Zoey with the message, asking them to carry him home, and that "the bad crowd" he had fallen in with killed him, that he would be seen by his family as "he made a bad choice that cost him his life, but he had earned friends who would traverse the interplanetary distance to bring him home, to honor his request." Though the recording said "you know the rest" they know he was in the war, and his friends can finish the rest of that saying, if they don't already know it.

Whenever I hear Tracy’s recorded monologue, I think of the bloopers. If you haven’t seen them, you should watch😂

The funny thing about the hat is someone worked out how to make it and sold a few online to other fans - then someone at Fox bought a hat, copied the design, mass-produced it as merch and then sent cease and desists to online sellers.

"I can kill you with my brain" the best line in television.

I love that the line is so absurd, and yet it's delivered at a point where both the viewer and Jayne have seen enough from her that it's actually plausible.

I’ve seen this episode numerous times and just now put it together that the owner of the pistol is John Kinsella in Field of Dreams (Kevin Costner’s dad). I think it’s because I just watched your reaction to that film.

He's also Hale in Cutting Edge which you probably won't know but along with Field of Dreams, it's a movie I love 😁

The cast knew while filming this episode that the series had been cancelled and looked on the ending of the episode as their funeral. You can really feel it in that last scene.

The Message is the weakest of the series, for me. I've skipped it sometimes during re-watches.

I love this show. Everything about it is fantastic and I’ve only seen a few others that are on the same page in terms of writing, characters, etc. One of which I can’t recommend enough is Netflix’s Arcane. It’s easily the best show I’ve seen all year and comfortably sits with the greats like Firefly and ATLA.

They knew the show was cancelled at this point, so the music that was written for the last scene where they dropped off Tracey's body, the composer wrote the piece as his way of saying goodbye to the series.
