Such an awful accident, great to see someone captured what happened, may help with analysis. The shell has taken a right beating and the chassis too. I do hope Roger can get it fixed up and back out again soon. Such a nice guy and self funded so it isn't going to be easy. Good luck Roger! Ian & Paula x

@ajom010k Firestorm is still out of action. The crew were there raising money (in a stand behind the grandstand). Fireforce 3 was racing there though (blue car).. Firestorm have updated their website with details from the main event fund raising, link to website in the details section above.

@blackettphotography - I assumed it was wind related and was therefore was surprised to see Eric follow on the rocket bike!! I remember seeing you in the grandstand - envious of your Telephoto lens :)

bit late with this comment but if you watch carefully the car is side ways and heading for the wall before the chute came out but yes santa pod was known for this i raced there for many years and on windy days ALL classes even street cars came across the problems with wind in the shut down area

@nickiefell If you are referring to 'Funny' in the title of the video then this is the name given to this type of drag car (because they don't look quite like the real car they are based on - Google 'Funny Car' and you will find the explanation) not because the accident was in anyway funny! Thanks

It looks to me like there is a transition at the end of the cement runway that bounced the car just before it went out of control....if that is indeed the case, what the hell are they doing sending contestants out on a flawed racecourse. As always, I could be wrong.

I think that may be a little bit of light trickery that makes it look like that. It is a different surface to aid with braking I believe, but its still flat and safe. From discussions with the team at the next meet they put it down to a crosswind that was felt when they arrived at the end of the track and the grandstands and paddocks finished.
