I got to be the Firewood Fairy back in February this year during Southeastern Kentucky's ice and snow storm. Electricity was out couple of days and neighbor with 5 kids was out of wood except for a stack of frozen oak slabs. I was blessed with plenty of wood myself last year so was able to give him some seasoned Black Locust rounds that only needed split then fired up the saw and cut frozen slabs. Got him through till he got a load delivered from a local seller. Felt good to help and give back. He'd recently given me a 15lb frozen turkey and a small box of frozen Salmon filets to make room in his freezer. I admire your "Be Kind" motto and hope more people take it to heart.

My mum was the daughter of a timber man. She was 5' 2" and 98 lbs. I watched her drop 6 gnarly Spruce in our yard full of flowers and overhead power lines with an axe and a Swede saw in under an hour, and each one with 3 inches to spare to each side! It took my brothers a week to buck those knot filled trees. She dropped em, when she found out the boys were sneaking out at night, by climbing down them. They were grounded till it was all bucked and stacked. Never get the Irish up in a tiny woman! Your Bobo reminds me of my mum, tough and rarin' to go!

You can't buy a shovel where I'm at. Sold out at the stores, according to the radio. I've been plowing snow since Friday morning sunrise to sunset. I watched people wait until the last minute to get supplies, then go outside during the storm. On there adventure in flipfops and night gowns drive to the Store. Every year same story, amazing how far we have evolved. I pack everything I can to go to work, and watch others, they take nothing. So who is right, they just wait for someone to help them when there stuck in the ditches. I drive an old truck , they drive a car not worthy of crossing over a pop can. Buckin says be kind, not stupid. Don't put other people in harm's way because you don't care if you live another day. Winter lasts about 5 months. So do so preparing in the summer, that's my message of kindness. Good luck.
@jirusjirus93223 жыл бұрын
Yep, feel your frustration, see it all the time. Be kind but don't stoop for stupid, it's a fact of life, young people especially, don't know til they know or die before they ever learn. To put others in harms way is not smart... Be smart Be kind, be wise, be safe, be strong, be because.

I learned from my Mother that how ever many cords I split, she’ll burn. Three cords a year is “enough” but if I bring her six she’ll burn six. I never run out of reasons to split more wood, and our Ponderosa produces wonderful pitch wood, so a few big wheelbarrows of pitch kindling are always part of the delivery. I couldn’t use firewood as a side gig if I wanted to, it’d all get burned 😂

One thing that helped me swing an axe more accurately was putting my dominant hand on the bottom of axe handle (closest towards you). I see most right handed people do it with the left hand on the bottom, but for me it greatly improved my axe swinging to do the opposite (I notice bearclaw swings this way too)! Thanks buckin. This will be my 3rd season harvesting firewood and your videos on watching the crown, falling, sharpening chain were the only ones that made sense to me back then.
