Hey Buckin, I grew up in Moose Heights north of Quesnel. My Dad built the house with his brother when he was 26. He worked in the bush and brought home Doug Fir to heat the house in the winter. As a teenager, I loved splitting firewood when it was -30 celsius or colder. The wood just popped apart. Even with the cold temps I'd be down to a T-shirt from working hard (I didn't have the sleeves cut off like you though brother) Splitting wood was the best thing for a teenager and now at 52 years old its still good for the soul. Be at peace you all.

I love old steel. Most of my favorite billhooks I use for fencing work in the UK are at least 100 yrs old. They hold an edge,easy to sharpen and work hard all day long. They are underappreciated pieces of working history from a time almost every town had a different take on the perfect billhook.Good video thx..

Never thought much about different axe heads and handles. I guess because I was splitting wood a different way. I can see the advantages of the various ones you've shared. I have only one ax and it does very little, in the way of flying through wood. My ax is a thinking ax. Every time I use it, I think, why did I buy this. It must of came with A gym membership. And a water bottle. Maybe its servers as my therapy. Or as a shopping list starting with advil. I'll be looking for other styles in the future.

Would be to cool to see you have your customers (like Bryan) have a swing with those restored beauties. Teach them your technique and what not. You make it looks so "easy". Contrasting that with someone less experienced would be interesting to see. I'm still new to your excellent channel though. So maybe you've done that a bunch already and I missed it. Keep up the great work, regardless.

Matthew, this guy can split and he can work! I'm older than him. My dad (depression era rural farmer) taught me to swing an axe and a hammer, but I grew up in the city. So because of experience I am by most measures an amateur. Lots of guys here can split well. I'm the perfect person to put out there next to him. And I submit that 50% of his efficiency is "aim". When he puts that second blow into his first entry point and he is within a 1/16", that is axemanship. See that on every swing? Dead on, not to mention he puts high energy into those swings which is deceiving.
@MrJunk784 жыл бұрын
