Hello Jeff. I noticed that you had to cut the limb stub off one log. Last year, I bought a battery-powered chainsaw. I love it because I don't need to pull and pull on the cord to start the saw. I just pick up the saw, release the chain brake, and squeeze the trigger. I am almost 73, so the ease of use is wonderful.

I’ve got my sights set on a little Stihl battery powered saw.
@jimmerrithew45317 күн бұрын
I bought a Stihl MSA 140C, with 2 batteries, on sale. The saw works very well, and the batteries work for quite a long time on a charge. The saw is very good for limbs and tree tops which are 6 inches or thinner. I may buy the bigger battery saw and sell the two gas saws I have. Most of the trees on our property are 10 inches or smaller, so I don't need a big saw or a long bar.

I wish you and the family the strength to deal with your loss. I agree with your definition of success. It is not always about making every last dollar. As long as you earn enough and are happy, that is a success. Having time to spend on hobbies and with family is also very important to stay in a positive headspace.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. As long as whatever you do works for you that’s all that matters. There’s always going to be others who can say do this do that. To each their own. Everyone process is different as well as there standards. Keep up the great work. 600 cords is a great number. I think that’s what I will end up doing this year as well.

Firstly, I want to express my condolences to you and your wife's family. 🙏 You are speaking absolute truth when it comes to business and measuring success. I'm coming up on almost forty years of owning three businesses. Your words ring very true. There are a lot of opinions out there that there is only one way to make money on firewood. I have found several highly successful ways that are often the ones scorned by the "experts".

I was told one time by a sales manager to watch out for stress in my job; he said there was a known risk in his industry, stress will just kill you with a heart attack. I think you have a great outlook.

Great video and a great message for success! I will listen to the podcast I enjoy listening to podcasts while I saw or do firewood. I’m with you on the tractor, mine runs just about every day, it’s my work partner lol, I’m even considering buying an older one with forks in the 3 point as a spare hehe. Have a great weekend.

Hi Jeff I have been enjoying your videos. I am in similar business to yourself in western Quebec. I sell some kindling from my slivers that I pick up also. I use the large paper leaf bags. I fill with kindling slivers for 20 dollars. I think those bags work well. A full bag is a good lift and it is a paper product and I like to support the forest industry. You can also use the paper to help start the fire! I support the bag by tying 2 strands of sessle baler twine around. This can be burned also!! I look forward to your next video. Earl.

Good neighbors are awesome. I have one down the road from me who is 73 and can work as good or better than most young guys around. He loves to cut trees with me in the winter for firewood and sawlogs and always has projects on the go. I've helped him build his house addition, a garage, a tractor shed ect and he digs right in and has a great pool of knowledge. He'll come help me on the sawmill, never asks for anything in return so I always jump to help him when he needs it. Great people make great communities to live in.

Just to answere the question regarding "the one and only right way to sell firewood": Yes, there is only one way and that is so much profit that it pays all expenses. That's logs, machines, accessories and labour. Wear on trailers and trucks, renewal of machines, time spent delivering and so on. But all the best to all of you!

As you started splitting with the processor, the first few blocks were split super fine. The splitting evened out after a few blocks.
