Firewood in the Rain, Experimenting with a New Setup

Today we tried something a bit different. We ran a processor with a log lift and a log rack, just to see how it would do.

I would smash my hands in no time taking the logs like that. Maybe using a lifting tong or a sappie(?), but the thing I don't understand (stupid Finnish like me 🤭) is why use the loglifter at all? Push/drag the processor closer to the rack and drag the logs straight onto the feeding belt with a sappie/piccaroon/lifting tong/lifting hook (wich is my favourite). Once the processor is in the right place put 20"X20"X2" cement "slabs" (the ones from the hardware store) where the stands on the processor comes. Then mark their places buy gluing a piece of rubbermat (a little bigger than the stand, maybe 3"-4" diameter) and next time (after you been to the cabin to make firewood) you can put the processor at the same place again. For hightech: stoppers for the wheels...

Pretty slick with that log rack...where do you get all those totes you run the wood into?

We got them from a manufacturing plant that no longer needed them, which got them from a factory that used them to move castings. Sadly, it would be virtually impossible to get more of them.

Would like to see a Sawdust vaccuum or blower in use . To blow the sawdust from the japa into a covered trailer or dump trailer

Hi Garrett, there is a sawdust extractor available for every Japa firewood processor - except the 315 - and we plan on showing it in future videos.

Just cerious........wouldn't it work better with it over the the log lift? Log lift pick it up off the rack and then feed in? Just a thought

So I’m not too far from Joe at Ohio wood burner. My question is that you have a limit on diameter on the different machines. What about the length. I don’t see a problem with longer pieces of lumber. Could you not place some rollers out further?

Hi Kurt, you could set up multiple decks next to each other, or create a much longer one. The thing that you would need to be careful about is how heavy the logs are and the practicality of feeding them into the machine. As you saw in this video, we had to manually pull the logs into the infeed. Once there, they were able to be moved with the infeed belt, but if the log was too heavy or had knots that got caught, then you'd need to manually pull them in.
