Happy Halloween to all! But soon after Halloween comes Bonfire Night, and with Bonfire Night, comes Fireworks, which may seem fun, but also are extremely dangerous when not used correctly...

I remember a video I saw in school when I was in year 8 or 9, it wasn't exactly related to fireworks but was related to bonfire night (I believe this was around the time of bonfire night) that showed the effects of throwing a can of aerosol into a fire, showed this kid throwing the can into the fire, and his face getting burnt and the aftermath, probably qualifies for Video Scaries. It seems one student didn't listen cause on a camping trip to Devon in 2018 (towards the end of Year 9) he decided to throw a can into a fire, luckily he was far enough away that the fireball didn't touch him.

It's July as I write this comment, and being American, I recently attended an Independence Day firework display. Afterwards, I was commenting to my boyfriend that I found it interesting how as an American, I associate fireworks with summer, but over in the UK and Ireland, they're an autumn thing, with bonfire night being in November and--if my semester abroad in Galway is an accurate representation--Halloween being a big fireworks holiday in Ireland. But I also live in a state where fireworks are illegal to sell to anyone. That doesn't stop people from buying them in other states, but strictly speaking, only professional fireworks displays are legal in my state.

…you know I’m actually starting to appreciate that fireworks are getting banned more and more in America, even during the 4th of July or new years… I sure as hell wouldn’t wanna be anywhere near a firework after watching this stuff… also, I know they are kids, BUT WHO THE HELL LIGHTS UP AN ENTIRE BOX OF FIREWORKS?!?? Like I know that’s the point of the PSA but come on that just pure insanity. It’s like pulling the pin on a grenade and expecting nothing bad to happen, it just makes no sense.

Fireworks are not the problem, it's the shops who break the laws on their sale to underage kids. If I had my way, shops who illegally sold fireworks to kids or those illegally buying on behalf of kids, would face their local authority explosives licence being revoked, firework stocks would be removed and used for community groups to put on firework displays, and those shops would be permanently banned from registering for a licence to sell domestic consumer fireworks ever again, and any new person that takes over the shop would be thoroughly vetted before any new local authority explosives licences would be issued. That's the way to do it.
