It was happening everywhere. In 93 I was a punk kid that bought a 60 pontiac in 93, torched the coils, skinny whites on chrome reverse wheels and spray bombed it flat black and I’m still at it and currently building a real steel ‘22 T bucket late 50s early 60s style on a shortened model A frame, 283 from a 59 Impala, trans and diff from a 57 chevy, it started with a pair of $100 headers. It’s been on the go for 3 years and counting.

I am so glad I found this project. I'm a 70 yr old cat from Michigan with a few cars under my belt, currently working on a 67 Chevy C10 Step Side, but I have been falling in love with the Salt Flat (Rolling Bones) type of Hot Rod. With that said, these California (Shifter) Hot Rod's are the real deal. Soo damn cool!

For the “new stuff”, that camper special, extra long wheelbase Ford F-350 is a sight for sore eyes, because I haven’t seen one of those since about 1980. On the hotrod side, Coop’s sedan is very inspirational for mine, along with the Eastwood & Barakat sedan in a 1982 Hot Rod Magazine. Want to take your mind away from work for a while? Build a real hotrod like these guys and mine, then drive the damn thing for hours to meet up with guys like you to relax more! Done it!

You could have built that hot rod yourself. You have the fire and passion and the IQ. You don't seem to have the confidence, but that is acquired over the years. Your hot rod in its present configuration, is one of the most esthetically satisfying hot rods that I have ever seen. I wonder how you will resolve the apparent sight line problem of the sheet metal blocking your view down the road ahead. Excellent videos. Thank you.

Really cool culture and to think many of them lived through it with all the alcohol that was involved. There were no rules other then to not let perfectionism weigh them down by car show trophy hoarders and their high dollar builds, they just wanted to be free and live in another time that most people at that time were afraid to live, the modern society thought if you cant have a lot of money and build a perfect looking chromed out high dollar painted hot rod, then you weren't in their club! Well they showed them how you didn't have to have a lot of money to build a hot rod, that sounded cool and in inspired young people who didn't need to work their whole lives to have a hot rod that they could enjoy and not have to worry about getting a nick or a ding, let's face they built them to drive and go fast and have fun. Although i like trailer queens too and pretty paint jobs, just build something on minimal income and being able to just have fun, having a rough around the edges automobile, loud and fast, you are making a statement, that's what real hot rodding is about.

Oh, come on man. Please stop saying 60 something years, I was born on the last day of 65 and I've still got a while yet. But me and my mates were into 50's style hot rods in the early 80's. My dad was a member of the first club in the southern hemisphere. Those guys made it all come together by organizing the first legal drag races and that was in the 1950s. Hot rod shows by the 60's, and eventually multi club functions. They found it a bit strange that we were all digging what they had moved on from but kind of liked telling the old stories and hearing the old music getting new life breathed into it. Many of us started rockabilly bands, and eventually even psychobilly bands. This is not a new thing as I'm sure you know. I'm still a gear head, love old rods , not the rat variety though. Still got some of my dads old stuff amongst mine and it means more to me than any new shit. But, please we're not yet 60 something . Cheers from Australia.
