Good ol poly 318s. My 66 fury had that with the bendix stromberg 2bbl. Not much in the ways of power but damn it ran forever and sounded so good through those flowmasters. I miss that car...

I had a friend who drove a taxi in our local home town and he had a Plymouth Fury with a 318. He drove it for over 250,000 before having the heads reworked and then drove it another 45,000 miles. And when it was done you could pull on the harmonic balancer and it would move back and forth. Great little motors.

i have a 1969 dodge a108. with a 318, it sat for 20 years, it started right up
@robertjohnson44014 жыл бұрын
Assuming you did a compression check and it passes, the carburetor may need to be rebuilt as it has been sitting for years. Doesn't look like the choke is working and you are trying to start it cold. Check for vacuum leaks once you get it running. Replace the points, condenser and rotor if they are not new.

I hate seeing sparks flying around on top of a battery but with that starter it was the only way to get it cranking fast enough!

Had one in my 1974 Plymouth Satellite .Too bad the body and back frame rotted out and got rid of it to the junk yard for parts for my Chevy Caprice wagon..The 318 still ran great when I dumped it.

sometimes when they sit they need alot of cranking , because rust builds up around the valves and the compresion is low . cranking settles the valves back in

That was painful to watch! Couldn't hook up the batt cable and use the little solenoid wire to crank as you worked the throttle? Seriously? I'd slap my kid if he diddled with an engine that long trying to fire it. Just..painful...to...watch...

Old 318's had what is called 'early 318's.' Later had 'late 318's'. Early 318's had a single rocker shaft built into the head. They were thick and heavy. That choke should be closed when cold. Change the oil and filter. Change the points and plugs.

Someone made the comment the starters turned too slow. Even though the same starter would fit 6 cyl. and both big and small blocks the starters were different in terms of how they were geared some turned extremely fast sounds like this one may have a little drag to it.as far as downing gear reduction starters the other car manufacturers all went to gear reduction Chrysler was ahead as usual.
