Another very impressive win from the teenage prodigy! He already has the positional instincts of a seasoned GM, along with the aggressiveness and tactical sense of youth, and the combination has been lethal to his recent opponents. In this game, he found just the right series of Queen moves to close the net around Black's king, in a position where plenty of GMs would have gone wrong.

I remember watching Carlsen play Firouzja in bullet on Lichess when Firouzja was 15. And he exclaimed with great relish "my man Alireza!" Carlsen's ratio against him at that point was something like 3:1 but he obviously appreciated his talent. And Naka's kind of dismissive comment about Alireza not reaching 2800 because of the amount of junk chess he plays looks to have inspired him. He plays without fear, which makes him very dangerous, and very exciting to watch.

I'm super excited about Firouzja. I think he will be in the Fischer/Kasparov (/Carlsen) category the way he just destroys opponents. Very aggressive too, like Fischer and Kasparov.

i think the difference is that Alireza enjoys chess a bit more than Wei Yi. Alireza is playijg literally everything. Online tournaments,OTBs. Any chance he gets to play stronger players he takes it. Competes with highest rated blitz players regularyly e.g. Hikaru. Will make a Chess24 account just to play Magnus. He's hungry to be the best.

Mr King is a professional commentator, in comparison to the others. Pronouncing names perfectly, editing and highlighting only the most important game moments, utilising great inflection of voice(notable of only good commentators in sports, the news etc), has a slow and unrushed pace enabling him to reduce epic long complex chess motifs into entertaining and digestible videos, giving myself at least a great sense of trust in his presentation. Think of these professional points in relation to all others, no matter how fun or frivolous they may be.

Excellent commentary as usual Mr. King. :) Looking forward for more. Just one thing - Firouzja loves space, unlike Fischer, who I view as a more Morphy-like player - favoring piece activity and king safety over space. Fischer himself never played advanced Caro-Kan himself. :) Kasparov also tried some crazy tactical lines instead of e5. In general, the space is a fascinating thing. After Alexander Maccdonel, who lost the match because of love for space, rarely great players(apart from Steinitz) went for it right from the opening.

Firouzja's pawn sacrifice reminds me of the adage, "no pawn break, no plan". Once you understand that e6 is the only real plan for white, the sac seems obvious, but it takes deep intuition to see it in the game.

Just wondering if black could get away with 5. Bxb1 and after Rxb qa5+ followed by winning the a2 pawn
@davidblue819
@davidblue819 4 жыл бұрын
I thought about the same thing. But later we could see there were other opportunities to grab material and struggle with less development, and that is ultimately how things went, without Black being enthusiastic for that or getting a good result from it, so the fifth move was not significant. It was one clash of attitudes all the way along, with white confidently eager to sacrifice a little material, and Black not wanting to be material up but trying in vain to get to a safe game.
