As my personal experience, I maintain my dog as grain free as I can. Here in Spain it was discovered that the study that came from the FDA was somehow bought by brands such as Royal Canin, Hills, Purina... Basically shitty kibble brands. I give my dog two kinds of kibble, I alternate every two bags, between Acana and Taste of the Wild. He is a mix of Weimaraner and Labrador, and he is suuuuuuuuper healthy and shiny. Also, SALMON OIL! The absolute best.

I have an Old English Sheepdog and at first I was giving him grain free food which was approved by my vet but one year later it was found that grain free food affect your dog heart health. There’s algo a lot of food in which grain is the main ingredient and those are also ones you want to avoid. As in right now I’m giving my dog Nutro and he love it ( just recommendation). As a shelter vet tech, I am grateful to see influencers as yourself encouraging adoption, especially of a bully breed! It makes me so excited when a pitbull that has been at the shelter long term finally gets their forever home. They are not the easiest of adoptions due to their bad reputation, it usually steers adopters unfamiliar with the breed away. In reality, ANY breed can be dangerous. Content like this helps to show pitbulls absolutely can be great dogs. Thank you for keeping an open mind and heart. Happy for you, Finneas, and Peaches!

Prefer the word dominant breed dog instead of aggressive. Aggressive makes people think they are mean. I have Chows, so I get it. Sadly, lots of breed bias out there.
@Lux4214 жыл бұрын
Well a big amount of pits are in fact dog intolerant / agressive. So why do people always feel the need to say that they aren’t? A lot of them were used in dog fights, and the winners were bred. You can’t just act like genetics isn’t a thing. Border collies have herding instinct, beagles follow their nose, but saying most pits are dog intolerant is somehow taboo. I know many awesome trainers who have pitbulls, and they even say it. And the argument that it’s the owners fault for having a intolerant pit just isn’t true. A good owner can see a dog for who they really are and accept that they aren’t golden retrievers.

She backs away from dogs her size or dogs that are bigger than her. We now have a black lab mix that is about her height so she is getting better with dogs her size. She loves our littles though.

Chronic Battle this is really not true, all my pit ever does (a male who weighs in at 120 and is all muscle) with other dogs is sniff their butts and walk away, he plays with small/big dogs just fine. For a pitbull with separation anxiety his best friend is a German Shepard and he loves everyone. They’re not aggressive unless taught to be aggressive.

@mrs.mekiaellemouyers19734 жыл бұрын
Some Pit bulls are also allergic to some of the fillers in the kibble. Symptoms can range in hives to seizures. So people use the alternative to feed them raw food. But that's a very controversial subject, it's not everyone's preference. Although it is mine when it comes to and Pit bull breeds since they can be more sensitive to it than other breeds.

Hey Claudia, I’m a vet tech and just want to give some advice on her diet - while pits commonly have sensitive skin, and sometimes a grain free diet is necessary, I would not feed it unless it is absolutely something she needs. The FDA doesn’t have 100% proof that grain free foods are associated with heart disease, but their research so far suggests to me that it’s safer to stay away. Of course if you end up needing to put her on a grain free diet, your regular veterinarian can help you choose a diet with sufficient amounts of taurine to steer clear of future heart problems. Please feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions. And so so happy to see people with such great influence on others get a pit bull 🧡
@iwantmoreglitter5 жыл бұрын
As a fellow vet tech and a pitbull owner I 1000% agree!
@courtneyapril85685 жыл бұрын
Okay but as vet techs you guys know it’s the peas and lentils IN the grain free foods that are ALLEGEDLY (no proof like you said) blocking the absorption of the taurine that dogs naturally produce. So as long as she’s looking for foods with low peas and lentils there is very very little to be concerned about, and really there is nothing to be concerned about at all yet. Because there’s no proof.
@maiseypollard5 жыл бұрын
Courtney April in my mind it’s just better to stay away from it, and of course there are many safe grain free foods out there! Everyone has their own opinion on the issue and mine is if you don’t know that your dog is in need of a grain free diet then just do your research and feed a regular diet. I completely understand what you’re saying!
@dejamarie14985 жыл бұрын

Petsmart employee here! Merrick is a great dog food, however, I wouldn’t recommend a grain free recipe. The FDA did a study & found that feeding grain free may be the cause of a heart condition called dilated cardiomyopathy where the heart becomes enlarged and ineffective at circulating blood. Just to be on the safe side, I would recommend incorporating some grains in Peaches diet! Good luck with the new pup!!
@ohsnapgirlfriends5 жыл бұрын
Kathleen Scatton The report actually says they can’t confirm the correlation! It’s a good idea to keep an eye out for updates but there’s not enough research proving that is actually the problem. Merrick is a great brand regardless of whether they use rice or peas in their formulas, as the meat content is high enough to take care of those amino acids :-)! I agree she can always add some grains just to be safe, but it’s not super necessary to their diet.
@KatisKool1235 жыл бұрын
ohsnapgirlfriends Totally agree! The study stated that out of 500 cases, most of the dogs were being fed grain free, but you’re right, correlation doesn’t always equal causation! I just always tell people to stay away from going completely grain free just to be safe in case if there is a correlation to it.
@caitlynsibole72185 жыл бұрын
I second this!! A friend of mine’s pit recently experienced heart failure and the only thing their canine cardiologist could boil the cause down to was grain free food. My sister’s dog is a service animal and she has done extensive research on food. she has her on purina pro plan!! best of luck, Claudia and Finneas!!
@ohsnapgirlfriends5 жыл бұрын
Caitlyn Sibole some of the pro plan foods have wheat corn and meat byproducts that have more of a background in being unhealthy! i’m sure their cardiologist is great but they technically aren’t trained in nutrition so you should still always check your ingredient lists.
@hannnahbear165 жыл бұрын
Although this is true, the study was only on a few dogs and not specific breeds and it is controversial because the FDA is paid the big bucks by brands like Pedigree, which is awful for pups and is full of a lot of harmful fillers. Merrick, Orijen, and Acana were all on the list, but its important to do other research instead of jumping right in to anti grain-free. :)

You really went all out with shopping for your dog! That is awesome! I just have one suggestion that you get her an elevated food dish. Large breed dogs are more prone to a serious condition called bloat where the dog's stomach can flip when they consume food or water too quickly. An elevated food dish would help prevent this with your new family member(: I only say this because my lab passed away a few years ago from bloat and I never heard of bloat before until it was too late. Now it is a must that all my dogs have elevated food dishes! Congrats on your new pup!

Major kudos for rescuing a Pit Bull!! Not only did you save Peaches' life, you also saved the life of the dog that gets that vacant shelter spot! This is EXACTLY the kind of positive exposure this dog breed needs and deserves! When raised correctly, Pit Bulls are amazing dogs! One of the most responsible things we can do as pet owners, is to get our pets spayed and neutered. Let us all remember the wise words of Bob Barker, and do our part to help control the pet population.

I am a German shepherd owner and I was very pleasantly surprised that you took Peahes’ training so seriously. Getting a trainer is a really smart choice, specially if you are a first time dog owner and considering how big and full of strength pitbulls are. I also think the leash you got will work perfectly for her, I have used that same leash for all my dogs (they barely notice that the leash is there because it is very light and thin, so the dog learns to obey your oders by voice instead of by pulling). I think you will be very happy together ❤️

When you said: "would you guys expect anything less from me? Come on". That's the exact second I liked this video. I did not expect anything less Claudia. I definitely did not and you are AWESOME

I really liked your disclaimer in the end - super true, for such a “young” dog mum you are super reflected and calm about everything. I wish Peaches and you guys balance and happiness 🐕 ♥️

I agree with the person that said to bell train. LIFE CHANGING. You don’t have to guess how often to take her out, she will let you know if she needs to go potty or wants to play. It has made our puppy so better at potty training!

She looks happy and relaxed, your doing a good job, your trying to learn about her and letting her be her but with boundaries which all pets need. Positive reinforcement is key.

The fact that these precious dogs are banned in my country is disgusting, look how gentle she is. BAN THE OWNER NOT THE DOG

Georgia Jane They’re banned in my city and it’s so sad bc we almost got a half pit mix but we couldn’t. But I do have another dog now that’s the sweetest baby.

It's not disgusting at all. By banning pitbulls you decrease dog fighting tremendously. Pitbulls are the most abused breed of dog, bred for a disgusting industry. As long as pitbulls are legal then dog fighting will continue, but if you start banning them then it makes it much more difficult to carry out dog fighting rings. Pitbulls are extremely sweet and loving to their owners, but they are also incredibly dog-aggressive and naturally good at killing, which is why they are used in dog-fighting. Banning them is for the benefit of the dogs more than anyone else, so that they stop being abused. It's also a catch-22 situation where a lot of owners with bad intentions will adopt pitbulls in order to raise them to be aggressive, and then the stereotype continues. Banning them is a very effective solution.

@@etaylor8028 not really. Because pitbulls are not only breed that is used in dog fighting. Also since dog fighting is illegal and still exist just shows that banning pitbulls will do nothing. Because those people who engage in dog fighting don't care what is legal and what is not.
@etaylor80285 жыл бұрын
@@nopeabb8393 Yes they are the only breed for dog fighting used in the United States and other countries (I know in places like Japan the Tosa Inu is used for dog fighting), but as it stands today in the western world it is only the pitbull, and I mean only. Sometimes they will add a little bit of mastiff into the breeding mix to add some size, but the dogs are always predominantly pitbull, 100%. "since dog fighting is illegal and still exist just shows that banning pitbulls will do nothing" no - it shows that they need to ban pitbulls altogether. Because the way they are able to transport and sell these fighting dogs is by acting like they are just pets, or rescue dogs or something. If you ban pitbulls altogether then anyone who owns a pitbull is clearly involved in dog fighting, so there will be no way for them to transport these dogs. They won't be able to hide dog-fighting dogs under people's noses by pretending they are just pets. If you know about dog fighting you'll know that these dogs are constantly being sold to different buyers, and constantly being transported to different locations, so travel is a huge part of the industry. In the UK they get their fighting dogs flown in. The only moral solution, as I see it, is to have every pitbull desexed and just let the breed die off naturally. It's what's best for the dogs.

Eleni Taylor actually, no pit bulls are not the only dogs used in dog fighting. Rottweilers are actually extremely common, as well as the very widely accepted German Shepard. Pit bulls are very obedient and have a need to please. They are easily trained and are very strong, that’s why they are used in dog fighting but many other large dogs have the same capabilities. Even if a city got rid of ALL Pitbulls dog fighting would not subside as they would use different breeds to continue their heinous act.

In regards to the seatbelt idea, I love putting a big vest harness on my dog, then I bought a doggie seatbelt that has a carribeaner on one side and then clips into the actual seatbelt! Has made SUCH a difference for my dog and her safety!
