Hey Joel, I hate to seem like a KZbin coment section pro but I am really interested in sports psychology, and watching your last video, I think I can see something for you to think about which might make you more comfortable. The human mind has two parts, the conscious side and the unconscious side. The conscious side is used to learn new skills when we cant do them aleady and the unconscious side is used to save energy by automating things we have learnt with our conscious side, eg tying shoe laces, hitting a set of whoops, writing or typing. Our unconscious side in sport is really really good, it feels effortless, its "in the zone" or "in the rythm". BUT importantly, as soon as we feel uncomfortable, our brain swaps back to the conscious side, which sucks ass at fast response, quick decisions, reactions. It makes you hang on too much (arm pump), look down, hold your breath, look where you don't want to go. It sucks. A great example of this is breathing. If you think about your breathing now, you will start doing it with your conscious brain, which sucks at it, and you will start taking deep breaths, because you have waited too long to breathe, or breathing too much, until you forget about it and your unconscious brain takes back over and its never a problem, you unconscious brain is great at it, so you're never normally out of breath. So, in order to be able to get and stay in the unconscious state when you are riding, you need to be able to get comfortable in the conditions that make you nervous, for me, I race flat track, and I was scared of losing the front, so I put 40 PSI in my tires and rode around in a small circle on hard packed gravel with bull dust on top, sliding the front, no brakes, just trying to turn as tight as possible and leaned over as far as possible, and practiced it one handed, and then with both my feet up. Then I got comfortable, and when I lost the front while racing, It felt fine and I could keep going hard and in the zone without losing concentration. It seems obvious but I think it's very beneficial to really focus on what makes you nervous, and get to a baseline level of comfort in those conditions. Also, being "uncomfortable" and swapping back to that overly conscious state can be controlled by you to some extent, being overly stressed and negative self talk adds to being uncomfortable, while confidence and relaxation adds to comfort. Anyway just my 2 cents worth, also not criticising, yout 10x faster than I'll ever be haha, love your videos, cheers 👍

That sounds good/right. I can relate with that to my snowboarding. It was hard for me to go from low intermediate to advanced runs on the mountain, but once I got passed that hesitation and self doubt i was good to go! I kick ass now, even as an old fart, on the advanced snowboard runs (here in Japan)

Cool! Good luck in Melbourne! You rocked in Newcastle! With the whoops... as Chad Reed told his son in a recent video, something like... practice, practice, practice and you need to hit whoops 100's to thousands of times to get so use to them. You are doing great overall!!!

Nobody should expect you to be fast at supercross when you are beginning including yourself. You are way too hard on yourself. (Coming from a recovering perfectionist 😂)

Hello mate, I’m not a pro but I want to give you some tips, I think you can carry some more speed into the turns, starting to accelerate earlier and making a little bit more “raw” turn u know? I’m not criticizing you, just a thing that maybe could help you..
