I was expecting some form of APBC on this, such as an ATGM. Without this the Boxer will only be able to engage Inf and LAVs.

Hi Andrew. These vehicles are APC variants. Gun-car variants will have a 30mm cannon and ATGM. See story and specs here - www.contactairlandandsea.com/2018/03/14/boxer-wins-land-400/
@andrewward65404 жыл бұрын
@@big-irish-git Thanks for that. Two things I've noticed, is that compared to the AS-LAV the Boxer has both a larger silhouette and much less sloping armour (especially on the sides), both of which potentially undermine its combat survivability (re remaining unseen and receiving flanking incoming rounds). Increased armour protection is great, but remaining hidden as much as possible is probably far better in recon roles - unless of course these vehicles are primarily intended to fulfil a frontline combat role, and provide close inf direct fire support on ops. If my speculation is indeed the case, then the Boxers use in urban and close terrain is to be expected, which will necessitate better flank armour, ie a better sloping design as protection against RPGs &c. Its absence in such a scenario could well prove to be fatal.

@@andrewward6540 - I'm pretty sure they are looking at Iron Dome or similar active protection. As far as size goes - here's an article I wrote explaining why Boxer (and similar vehicles) are so big in the first place... issuu.com/contactpublishing/docs/contact62/18

@@andrewward6540 Hi there, I'd recommend looking up the Lance Turret that will be fitted to the CRV. It will have the Israeli made Spike LR II ATGM (I wonder what it would take to upgrade to the Spike ER II model and add another ~50% range) as well as a 30mm cannon. From memory the hulls of the ASLAVs were made of aluminium and weighed about 13t where the Boxer CRV will weigh closer to 38t, a major increase in armour and mine protection.
@FairladyS1303 жыл бұрын
@@wattlebough 38 tons puts in the light tank weight range, for that it needs a bigger cannon, something that could shake up a MBT.

New car with an mg from ww2..... why can’t we refit this with CROWS 30mm 7.62 mg secondary and javelin from EOS (an Aussie firm). Why is it still fitted with kongsberg rws?....
@big-irish-git3 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with the .50cal, no matter how old the design (the actual weapon is not that old). This all-purpose car doesn't need a weapon for a driver's course, and only the basic weapon for the first live-fire shoot. The first 25 of 211 vehicles are being built in Germany (necessary for technology transfer to Australia) - that's why Kongsberg. The other 186 being built in Ipswich will be fitted with EOS. The 'gun cars' will be fitted with 30mm canon and Spike anti-tank missiles.

Would be good to see how it performs at pace. These clips all show it just crawling about. Biggest advantage of the LAV platform was pace as the ability to cover long distance in good time. Does the extra weight from size and armour upgrades reduce this capability?

Hi David. This was the first ever turret conversion course. The old saying "learn to walk before you run" applies. I'm sure we'll see plenty of fast-paced actuion from these vehicles after they've been full rolled out (in about 5 years) and over the life of type (probably about 30 years). Keep watching this channel for updates.
