Another Mulatto man who owned slaves was William Holmes Ellison II. William Ellison was a free Mulatto slaveowner in South Carolina who owned 68 African American slaves and operated a cotton plantation.

William A. Leidesdorff was born on October 23, 1810 on the island of Christiansted in the Danish West Indies. His father Wilhelm Alexander Leidesdorff was a European man from Denmark. The parents of Wilhelm were German immigrants. William's mother Anna Marie Sparks was of West African and Carib Native American ancestry.
