Didn't expect a 2790 playing in the Candidates to end the game without even moving the queenside knight and rook. Ironically the final position looks like a game against Morphy, who Hikaru often states wasn't that strong by today's standards. So I think it would be really fitting to award Vidit the Morphy Head for this! Maybe you could put out another short clip just awarding him the Morphy Head?
@MrSupernova11110 ай бұрын
Brilliant! Modern players love to downplay players of the past. Its easy when today's players sit on the shoulders of the old masters and then regurgitate whatever their engine analysis comes up with.
@JuicersSuck10 ай бұрын
If Morphy got in a time machine at the peak of his game and traveled to today, he'd get demolished by modern GMs and that has nothing to do with talent. It's because of the evolution of opening theory. Morphy would get into trouble early on and as you saw with this game, it's hard to play yourself out of a lost position at this level. Morphy's chess strength probably wouldn't be above 2500 due large in part to his opening theory knowledge. That's not to say his talent level is one of the best ever, which most would agree that it is. Now put him up against anyone at Fischer Random (chess 960), that's a different story.

@@arghodas6254I have been following him for a couple of years and Vidit always does good initially in a tournament. He has reached Worldcup semi finals consecutively for 3 years and always loses due to his nerves. He took a break this time after World cup and worked on his nerves with his mentor on meditation and after he returned, he won Grand swiss. Then he can 2nd in some memorial tournament where hikaru was also playing. Then he was on highest point in World Rapid championship for 2 days and in second last round he lost in a +10 position. If he keeps his nerves on control, he can play as good as any player. Also if you vidit, his personality has changed alot after his break. He is much more confident.
