Vidit is a nightmare for attackers like Hikaru and Dubov . he can defend extremely well and if your attack fizzles out , he is bound to punish you .

Dubov's attack barely fizzles out . Like 1 in every 5 games . He'll lose badly or demolish you but his games will never bore you since he keeps sacrificing pieces ,playing unconventional lines , taking opponents by surprise and not playing those easy engine moves

That critical capture of the knight on e5. You mentioned that most players would look at knight capturing instead of the bishop. But if you look at the position, white's bishop on c3 was his weakest piece, almost hanging, so why wouldn't you start the exchange with it

I feel like Hikaru doesn’t respect Vidit in the same way he respects other players in the tournament, and that’s why Vidit keeps pulling off upsets. He feels like he ought to win, and jumps straight into ugly positions without analyzing all of the threats super carefully.

It does. But you loose knight + Rook for a queen. White has just queen and a rook after that, which is not enough for two rooks & two minor pieces in such open board. Black can easily draw, but vidit was looking for a win.

It’s crazy how this format favors Nepo so much. He is great in the double round robin. The most surprising thing is what has happened to Alireza? He definitely seems to be regressing. It’s very strange to see.
