As a kid I absolutely loved taking the train into the mountains from Constanta through Bucharest to sinaia, predeal and Brasov. And I mean the compartment trains. Waking up at 3:30 making our way to the train station, sleeping a few hours, passing through fields of flowers, mountains.. it was absolutely wonderful

I was here December 2017 and had travelled by train _from_ Bucharest. The trains ran every *four* hours and as I had missed one by 40 minutes, I had a 3 hour 20 minute wait for the next one !!

I'm certain there are massive signs at that station now saying not to go with unofficial taxi drivers!? I was there in 2016. It's a classic scam at that station. I'm amazed Gab didn't see them. At least he just lost a bit of money and not his organs I guess.

The metro station in Bucharest is towards the KFC sign, but it's poorly signaled :( And you were scammed. The ride from the train station to the apartment is probably 15 lei at most. And the thing with "I don't have change", it's a classic one...
@GabrielTravelerVideos6 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's what I figured. No biggie, that taxi ride in New York or London would have been twice the price for that same distance. As far as scams go, not a bad one.
@Mihai-eg6ux6 жыл бұрын
Better to use Uber. also regular legit taxis have apps to call them. This way you avoid scammers. And always tell them to turn on the cab meter :)
@Bobskiboy856 жыл бұрын
Even with meter on Mihai some have a trick to advance the tarif..I went Piatsa Romana to Mega Mall Pantelimon and when we stopped he pressed a small button and tarif went from 30 lei to 90 lei..he tried tell me its public holiday rate..i said ok no problem I will call police and we wait and you explain to them..he quickly said ok ok 30 lei is ok...i agree use app like Clever Taxis
@Mihai-eg6ux6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's called The Monkey. They have a button on the gear stick to push up the price. Always use apps to call taxis or use Uber. Don't get any taxi on the street :)

@GabrielTravelerVideos6 жыл бұрын
Yeah in this case it was just a matter of not having change, otherwise it would have been only 8 dollars. Not sure if that's the right price either but either way not a bad thing to pay 12 bucks for a taxi ride across a major city. That's still cheap for most places. It's nice when you get "ripped off" and it's still a good deal.

Sorry you got scammed by the taxi driver, the metro station was so close. If you're still in Romania, try other nicer cities, like the cities from Transylvania, such as Brasov, Sighisoara, Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca, or more to the West, you could try visiting Oradea or Timisoara. There the architecture and overall atmosphere of these cities is much interesting, and the people are nicer, and more polite. We recommend you to visit Sibiu, you'll enjoy it, is probably the most interesting city in Romania for a foreigner. You could take a look on our video from Sibiu, of course is in Romanian, but you could see why we recommend Sibiu. Cheers, good luck and enjoy Romania!

Gabriel Traveler, what the guy mentioned above are the few places worth to see. This country is more and more of a disaster. The cities from western part of the country are more cheaper than Bucharest and people are more friendly, not so many scamers and thiefs like in the capital. In my opinion just the wild places are worth to see here, the mountains, we have beautyful nature and mountains but thats it. And to enjoy some good outdoor time in nature you need some good wheather. There are some roads that cross the mountains like Transfagarasean and Transalpina that are worth seeing but Transfagarasean is a closed road in winter and i think is tomearly in the year to access it!
