Thanks for the flight report. I’ve flown from SFO many times to each of the islands. First class used to have a thick duvet, choice of welcome drink, freshly baked, warm cinnamon rolls & macadamia nut cookies. It’s not worth the price anymore, but definitely won’t turn down the upgrade. 😉

I figured all the little touches were gone forever from first class after covid, but have been glad to see at least some of it came back. We often upgrade (my sister and I) because we're both fat ladies and at the end of the day, if you watch the prices, it's often a decent deal when you factor in what an extra seat would cost, luggage, cocktails and the meal. I know the meals aren't anything spectacular, but they beat the heck out of spending the money in the airport for equally mediocre food. We've gotten pretty spoiled with that 70 lb weight limit on bags too. Nice to not have to worry about it because we never even come close. I've been really nervous about upgrading on this particular flight though because the seats seem about as narrow as economy and I know it's an old plane. That said, with the 3-5-3 in economy, at least we won't be squished in and making a stranger uncomfortable or buying an extra seat. Sure wish it was just normal domestic first class so I knew for sure what I was getting myself into! Upgrade on one leg was only $139, stalking the price for the return flight but it's currently at $229 which is also not terrible. Extra seat + luggage + 4 cocktails total ends up making it about $90 round trip per person. That's also not factoring the meals, just leaving that out of it since I don't know if they'll suck or be at least edible. Some first class meals have actually been pretty good. Apologies for the length of the post, welcoming any advice on my thought process for all of the above. Thanks again for the vid!

The middle section is four seats across- haven’t seen that on any other premium cabin! When it came time to sleep (I was on an overnight flight), it felt like a dorm room or a sleepover - no separation, no dividers, just four people lying down literally right next to each other; it didn’t help that the guy next to me kept tossing around and would occasionally hit me with his bare legs or feet! Also, earlier in the flight when still awake, we got to see each other’s video monitors. Bags were tagged Priority but came out even later than most passengers’ bags at the carousel upon arrival. The food was good, though, and so was the service. Would give it 5/10 stars and won’t spend the money again for it.

Wow I wish I had that option instead those horrible vegetarian meatballs, or, that God awful chicken dish. I only had one flight that was above,and,beyond. That was a flight from SFO back in June. Loved the Aloha Spirit from the crew. They were so awesome. Funny,Kind and, a good representation for United.

We were sitting in the back because I had 5 tickets to buy hahaha. I’ve been to Hawaii 4 times now. We love it. It was the first time for my kids. We got back home yesterday. United was fantastic by the way. Fantastic video you shot. Hope you enjoyed your trip too!

i recently took a similar flight from LAX to HNL. The seat was narrow and after lying flat, it was not comfortable because it was sinking at certain parts of the seat. If they keep the seats so narrow, they should at least update them to make sure it can be full flat without sinking parts, and lower the price given the 2-4-2 configuration.

Nice vide, though I might choose different music for a video about a Hawaii flight. The food is absolutely abysmal, though that brioche burger is pretty good. Sad to see the impact of UA's cost cutting on this route, and doubt it would be my first choice despite having 3 million miles and lifetime 1K status on UA. Both Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska offer a very nice service on this route.

Thank you for your feedback. The music is quite often a problem, which I experience in the feedback. With the newer videos, the background music only plays a very subordinate role, I use it less and quieter. 3 million miles - you can fly a lot with that 😛

United doesn't offer first Class service to Honolulu. Its business, and a terrible one at that.

You have it wrong. United best domestic premium class is first class and internationally that best class is called business class. Don't know how the airlines dug themselves into this mess but AA, for example, is trying to make sense of it all by changing names of classes. Domestic first class is often much like international premium economy. Confused? Me, too, and so are the airlines.

As a comparison, most European business is even further from business than the domestic first in the US is from first class. Here you are at least close to business class level.

Those seats should be donated to the Smithsonian. Who in their right mind would pay multiples of economy on a cash fare for this embarrassing sub standard product . If this is United’s first class they must be changing out the seats in economy for benches and the seat belts for rope .

This is a domestic first, which is only used on flights within the USA. But in Europe these domestic cabins are even worse, only the middle seat is free and you have standard economy seating in the planes.

Exactly how I feel. I've had a better experience on a 10 hour flight (economy) from Apia Samoa to LAX where they served two good meals,and,Mimosas..... In Economy. Our domestic carriers force me to first class, with a subpar aircraft. There was a time when 737 aircrafts weren't used for long haul flights. Now it's a given I hate it. I wish Pan Am was still around.
