Before that colostrum is present for the mother to feed the baby and that’s all they need at first. She obviously wasn’t starving her baby for those first 2 or so days before her milk came in.

I can gurantee it was one of those pre made bottles that matt had already opened and was trying to force on her and the baby. All because he doesn't understand colostrum and how newborns only need tiny amounts before milk comes in and ARENT STARVING/ bottle feeding can interupt the milk supply and make it really difficult to get back. Those go bad in two hours, and can't be donated. Plus im pretty sure he just wanted a shot of himself bottle feeding to get all the "father of the year" praise.

It’s sad to be offering formula to a woman who’s doing everything to breastfeed. Women don’t get supported in breastfeeding these days, they get told “oh just use formula, it’s easier / same / you don’t get a prize for breastfeeding” etc But no real support. No “maybe we should consult a lactation expert” or “here let me make you meals so you don’t have to stress about eating enough to produce enough” or “hey I noticed you’re feeling touched out, what can I do to help” etc Women need SUPPORT for breastfeeding not an offer of formula every two seconds.

These are dangerous times we live in and sometimes there is a shortage of Formula and babies being born everyday. Not all of them latch on or moms can produce or if on meds can't breast feed. Formula comes in handy and may be a baby's only source of nourishment if mom can't breastfeed.

They’re aware that they weren’t literally “free”. Matt & Abby obviously have paid their medical bills regarding their labor + delivery, so technically they’re “free” to take. Anything you’re being charged for, you’re allowed to take. This is why I recommend everyone requesting a itemized copy of their medical bill costs, especially considering it can/will save money. Regardless, they know what they’re talking about, as I’d assume the majority of viewers do too. ❤

​@apriltortorici9810 Having had a baby I have a really hard time seeing that the straits could have been really that dire cuz "is the baby getting enough to eat" is one of the #1 things they monitor for in the hospital and then that first week after birth (when it feels like you're constantly at the pediatricians office). They literally won't let you go home with your baby if it can't eat well (happened to my nephew). Like if the baby was actually starving and truly not getting enough food how many people dropped the ball? Definitely her nurses (at least 2, day and night crew), the pediatrician at the hospital and then their family provider. They're all supposed to be monitoring the baby's weight and dehydration levels. That's like 4 separate cases of malpractice if the baby was truly not being fed.

Be patient Matt, after a c section you feel like you've been gutted like a fish. It's not just the pain and the physical recovery that's hard. It affects you mentally and emotionally too. I understand everyone has their story to tell and people don’t always make the best decisions post partum let alone in the fight but as a mother who couldn’t supply enough breastmilk her kid and was forced to formula feed and now managing the financial impact of formula feeding a newborn, not to mention the societal pressure that because of it I am a not enough for my baby, to hear she dumped some formula down the sink was really heartbreaking. Someone out there in the same position I am could’ve used that formula and made a major impact, it’s important for the survival of so many babies and their mothers and just isn’t trash for the sink to prove a point. I always feel like you guys keep it real and are so relatable however that was maybe a moment the 2 of you could’ve kept to yourselves, mothers all deserve to feel like their doing their best even ones that formula feed.

I don't think there really was an attitude about not breastfeeding, there was an attitude about Matt not understandstanding cholesterum and what a new born baby actually needs nutrition wise, and the fact that bottle feeding that early on interupts the milk supply making it really hard to get it back. It's not that formula is the devil lol it's perfectly fine, but the baby didn't need it and Matt kept pushing for it rather than support and encourage his wife. (Who knew exactly what she was doing and did everything correctly, the baby was never in danger of starving.) She wanted to breast feed, she was doing everything exactly right to give baby what he needed and kickstart her milk supply, and here comes matt pushing the formula SO HARD then creating a narrative that makes abby look bad do the heat gets taken off of him. He pulls this shit all the time. While he was filming this he was ignoring his post partum post op wife for two days because he was sad about the kids derailing his "music career." He can truly be awful.

Her attitude isn't about not breastfeeding it's about Matt not supporting HER in breastfeeding. Yes some people don't care to/want to/aren't able to and that's fine if they choose that for themselves but Abby was very set on breastfeeding for herself and her child and needed Matt to support her choice and make it successful rather than try to push formula. Breastfeeding is really hard at times and much harder when you don't have the support of those closest to you.

Many moms are forced to go back to work before 4 weeks. I worked at a place where a manager was back in 2 weeks. Kinda hard to breastfeed in situations like that. Or for whatever reason. It’s always good to have formula on hand. Supplies can drop quickly. 😢 mine dropped in less than a week. I hardly noticed. I thought daughter was growing. It got to point I could pump because there wouldn’t be enough. And then after giving her my boob basically all day wasn’t enough and I was working and went through my whole stash. I had to supplement formula because she wasnt gaining weight. Sometimes it’s good to be extra prepared and keep a little bit of formula around because you never know if you might need it.

@@Ptls68 actually I got pregnant is what happened. But even so with my first I struggled with supply and was told to supplement also. I didnt work then so I strictly breastfed her. I succeeded in breastfeeding her for 2 years but like I said, I had to supplement at certain times when she just wasn’t getting enough and wasn’t gaining weight. So it’s always a good idea to have formula around and not need it than need it and not have it.

This is just me and my opinion there was no need to do that to prove a point. I'm assuming he opened it(because he's talked before about being terrified the baby was starving) while she's sitting there with a screaming baby trying to get him to latch, while you're also in tears, and your life partner brings you a bottle of formula. That had she given in it would have fucked her supply from coming in like it did. So he opened the bottle and tried giving it to get, to which she responded by dumping it. It was already opened therefore cannot be donated. Did you know had they not taken those bottles home, the hospital staff would have thrown them all away?? But no one's ready for that conversation

Only a mom would understand the emotional turmoil that comes with breast-feeding. I am currently on a breast-feeding journey that has been so stressful and unfortunately hasn’t come as easy as others. But women should know that breast-feeding is not the end All be all of motherhood, you can still be a good mom and use formula. You can still be a good mom and pump instead of feeding from your breast, there is nothing wrong with using formula. I applaud her for wanting to exclusively breast-feed, and I am so glad that she is able to do that because some of us are not as fortunate and believe me, we feel very inadequate for it most of the time. Seeing her have such an easy time does not fill me with jealousy, but fills me with happiness for her and her family💜 much love to all 🎉and congratulations on baby Auggie

Oh please don't feel inadequate. You really are far from being the only one who uses formula. I am breastfeeding (my baby is almost 3 weeks old) and I already feel jealous of those mothers who formula feed their babies, because at least someone else can help. I am my baby's sole source of food and their pacifier at the same time. It is tiring and I definitely had moments where I wished I just could not breastfeed so I had an "excuse" to stop doing it, because what kind of mother stops breastfeeding when they don't have to. I wish this topic was not so emotionally charged....

@@Learning_Can_Be_Fun_ the way she took to the pacifier makes me think she would love to drink from a bottle as well, so if I pump she might find that this is much easier and she does not have to work as hard for her food that way and refuse to breastfeed then. Also I am still getting used to how my live changed and accepting the new role I have as a parent, so for now I don't think I have to change anything, I am still figuring things out. But it is comforting to know that there are other options whenever I decide I am done with breastfeeding.

The mom need full support to g’et it going unless it actually become a danger to the child but its normal it takes a few days and sometimes the baby take a Big jump and needs more Then the baby Will eat more often to raise the production

Except it couldn't be donated because it was already opened. She did exactly what I would have done, she has 2 hours to use it after opening, so I'm genuinely curious, what else should she have done with it. Also keep in mind since you've had several the hormones and emotions running through her body... that alone, but add to it you're holding a screaming baby trying to get him to latch and your partner who's supposed to fully support you during this time goes against everything she's asked of him. He opened a bottle and tried giving it to her, while her and baby are crying in frustration and having a bottle of formula in your face while trying really hard to concentrate to feed your baby, you wouldn't have been frazzled and frustrated????

Kind of disgusts me just a little because in the Midwest at least there had been a formula shortage and to just waste that instead of donating even if it was just a small amount. There was such a bad shortage when I delivered my daughter that when my milk didn't come in enough so I had to supplement half and half for a year and the hospital i was at you were not left with any sort of can or those little bottles of formula the nurses had to make you a bottle every time from a giant can of formula they kept at the nurses station so all the patients had to page if they needed a formula bottle. And a lot of times when you'd go to any grocery store in town the shelves would be bare of formulas you'd have to call stores and go several towns over just to find a couple cans and yes this was 8 months ago the last time I bought formula but still very waste full to me to hear that

One, anything they bring to your room, even if you don’t use it, the hospital throws away, and matt mentioned anyway he was the one that packed it all, not Abby. Secondly, he didn’t give a lot of details, but I’m guessing she dumped A bottle of that formula, which is only a few ounces. Of course it would be great for her to donate, I’m not saying it wouldn’t! I’m just saying I don’t think she did anything worth the public criticism she’s receiving. It would be like getting mad at someone for not donating the 5 size newborn diapers they were left with when their kid outgrew them in my opinion. Plus, Abby donated tons of breastmilk with Griffey and probably will with auggie too, I think Abby probably usually would be quick to donate things like that and it’s unfair to bash her over a weak moment like this
