This is basically a lever-action, straight-walled, 35 Remington, which is a VERY good thing! The advantage of the 360 is it's .120" shorter in the case, and straight-walled, making it legal in quite a few states that don't allow the very similar 35 Remington. We can debate how silly that is, but the 360 Buckhammer was created to fill a very specific need, and it fills it quite well!

@@hillbillyscholar8126 my brother in law got my sister a henry 17hmr lever action a couple years ago (she gets a kick out of shooting armadillo at night in her yard) and they still have the first box of hornady ammo they ever bought for it because it wont cycle properly. So they just pitched it back into the safe and she went back to killing armadillo with her s&w 38spl. And I thought they had to be screwing something up, so I went over and tried it and I loaded it and it wouldnt cycle. I've had lever guns all my life, well only ok ne I have left now is a old rossi model 95 in 357, and the ejector is worn out on it. But I digress...guns around here "oklahoma" are sold by two ways. Well, I put 2 nice bucks down with this rifle, it does the job well, 1 at about 50 yards out, ran about 50 yards and fell, 1 at about 130 yards, bounded took a few steps and fell over. Both just behind the shoulder lung shots.

I bought one three months ago. I mounted a Leopold 1.5x4x20 pig plex scope on it using Talley mounts. I used Hornady data to develop my hunting load using Speer 180 grain bullets and Accurate 1680 powder. My load is 1.5 grains less than maximum and the 3 shot group at 100 yards off the bench is 3/4 inch. My velocity is factory. This was very tricky to load for, as a tenth of a grain made a difference. Deer season in Ohio on the 27th and the Henery .360 Buckhammer will be in the woods.

Since I don't live or hunt in a state requiring straight wall cartridges, I'll be sticking with the .35 Remington out of my faithful old 336 Marlin for deer and/or hogs. If I feel like I might need even more thump than the .35 Remington can provide I'll have my equally faithful old Marlin 336 in .444 Marlin close to hand. Good video and very nice deer for the freezer even if I have little or no interest in either the cartridge or the rifle brand.
@Mark-uq9km Жыл бұрын
My first big game rifle was a 336 Marlin in .35 Remington. Every deer I ever shot with it was DRT. I never have had to track the deer. More recently I found a Winchester Big Bore in .444 Marlin and believe the Trip4 is the ultimate straight wall cartridge for anything you can hunt in North America. I bought a .350 Legend last year to hunt with my grandsons in Ohio. I think this little cartridge punches above it's weight pretty significantly.
@furmanmackey5479 Жыл бұрын
@@Mark-uq9km Thanks got the kind reply! I hope you will understand when I suggest you find at least two loaded .45-70 rounds and place them to the left and right of a loaded .444 Marlin round, all on a flat surface. Utilizing good old Mk1 "Eyeball Calibration" I think you will notice that the .444 case is very slightly tapered along the lines of the .44-40 WCF cartridge. I mean no disrespect to you or anyone else but in this day and age it would not surprise me a bit if an overzealous wildlife officer were to charge the hunter who utilized a .444 Marlin in a "straight wall" state with using an "illegal" cartridge. Again, the taper is very slight. But once you've seen it for yourself you can't unsee it. Take care and good hunting to you and your grandsons!!!!
@Mark-uq9km Жыл бұрын
@furmanmackey5479 Thanks for the reply. I do know the trip4 is legal in Ohio, but I use the .350 Legend. Before that, I used a rifled barrel Rem 870, which was devastating on deer and at good distances. But I couldn't resist the legal rifles for Ohio deer. So, I bought a Marlin .45-70. I call her Thumper because she thumps at both ends. She is way too much for deer. However, with my reloads I have her shooting 1 MOA at 100 yards with around 3000 ft. lbs of muzzle energy, and these aren't +P loads. That's why I backed off with the 350 Legend. The trip4 works great on Florida hogs where I live. It is also very accurate. I just love shooting my reloads in it. But you're right about that taper on the trip case and I wouldn't put it past an Ohio game warden getting over zealous. I've run into them before and they're something else. They act like they're Wyatt Earp and ready to get on you very quickly, especially when you're from out of state. Good luck and good hunting.

@WillyK51 Жыл бұрын
Just a bit more recoil, 30-30 shoots a 170 Grns bullet at around 2000 FPS , the 350 Legend same 170 Grns at 2.200 Fps and the 360 Buckhammer a 180 Grns at 2.300 Fps. About the same range as the 30-30 and a bit more omph (150 yds or more depending on holdover)(Plenty energy to 200 Yds and more)

Still haven't bought that 44 mag Henry I asked about last time. Sons college tuition for veterinary school, and my brothers passing put it not a priority. But now that I saw this video, I'm wondering which would be a better deer option for 200 yards and in...44 mag or 360 buckhammer? (Mans gotta dream and save for something these days.)
@jasonbroom7147 Жыл бұрын
For 150 yards and under, they're very close to the same, but for 200 yards, or even 250 yards with the FTX bullet, the 360 Buckhammer carries velocity and energy quite a bit further than the 44 Magnum. If you handload, the 360 offers a ton of versatility, since you can load a bunch of inexpensive .358" or .357" pistol bullets from it. It's a MUCH better cartridge, for the handloader, than the 350 Legend ever will be.
@RyanofWestMichigan Жыл бұрын
The 44 mag really falls short of the 360 buckhammer when your talking capability. The 44 mag is fine for close range deer, personal experience says don't shoot 44 mag out past 100 yards. It just doesn't perform out that far. I'm sure people will argue but I've seen it first hand. Put the 44 mag cartridge next to the 360 buckhammer and you can see its no comparison. The 44 mag is a great cartridge but has its limitations. Handgun round VS rifle round. The 360 buckhammer is based off a 30-30, great classic rifle round.
@hillbillyscholar8126 Жыл бұрын
Paul Harrell did a presentation here on YT comparing the .30-30 and .44 Mag when fired from carbines out to 200 yards. It is time well spent. If you are not expecting to shoot over 150 yards and do not reload the .44 Mag is probably a better choice for economy and availability than the Buckhammer. I doubt a deer will be able to tell the difference with well placed shots either. Resale value would likely be better over time too. Good luck on your quest!

I love Henry rifles, have a safe full of them. I suppose the 360 Buckhammer has a niche, especially in those sorry states that require a straight walled cartridge. However, for me it is just a 30-30 or 35 Remington in a new caliber that is straight walled. If I were ever in a situation where I had to use a straight wall cartridge, I would just grab my 45-70. Why folks live in those dumb-dumb states that require a straight wall, centerfire round for deer is BEYOND ME. It is a nice looking rifle though, love my Henry's,....each and every one of them.

I will never buy another product from this company. The sad thing is that my brother got me really pumped up about Henry. Never again. If you have to wait a certain amount of time before going to look for the deer/game, turn the camera off, then pick up the narration when your fixing to get down, or just voiceover the entire thing. About as silly as launching a revolver so ugly only its mother could love it at a price beyond a Glock 17, not to mention most S&W revolvers.
