You should keep your prop speed below 3200 rpm. Anything above that causes the tip speed to exceed the sound barrier and create turbulence that decreases the efficiency by around 30% instantly, its also very unforgiving on the blades. If you exceed that limit under full load you need to re-pitch the prop to limit rpm and increase thrust. Exploding props are terrifying and can easily be deadly!!! Have fun and Stay safe fellas!

For a brief period I lived about 4 hours north of Toronto, we were about 50 km from nearest town with a doctor. The Doctor had a seaplane from the 60's that was similar in deign to the Icon (pusher engine mounted above the wings) and would make house calls to those who lived remote with water access. He would fly in, do his exam and then go back out on the lake, open the nose hatches and go fishing. Once in a while he would take us up for a ride.

There are all kinds of clever things like that on various vehicles and machines. My old 42 Jeep the tie rod setup was in the front of the front axle so if you hit anything really hard underneath the front it was easy to damage the steering components right there. I also had a early 41 Power Wagon and all those parts ran behind and underneath the front axle. If you hit something the tie rod would just move and bounce out of the way because it was built to work and still be able to give if something ran into it. Also the front grill cage protected the headlights and radiator. The Jeep everything was set back behind the the stamped front grill so same thing. The old guys were more clever than folks realize about making things work and live in bad situations. Some things used to be built for function over form and routing that cable a certain way had a purpose just like the Jeep and Power Wagon I used to have.

@@wyattmartin534 Well I've seen it under various awd heavy duty trucks but the first place I noticed and had time to think about it was under my Dodge. It really is a good idea but maybe most light duty trucks they don't care or it's more complicated to build. The setup under the WW2 Jeeps seems pretty complicated and fragile but it worked and I never broke or bent mine that I'm aware of.

I love what you guys do. It's so cool to see it on the water finally. Glad you guys are having fun. Maybe a suggestion to help with the top weight. I've always wondered why you decided to have the motor so high up. I understand for simplicity. But if you can bring it down and then belt drive the fan blade it would really help. Also look to see if the angle of the blades can be adjusted slightly too. Maybe it needs a little. Size of pulleys can help with ratio of blade turns.. can maybe get more out out of it with the belt. But still amazing to see it working.

i have several friends with turbo ls airboats. most put the intercooler in front of the radiator. a couple have it up there and have no problems. the main thing you guys need to do is trim you crankshaft angle and prop angle. the prop could use more angle to keep the tip speed lower and give you more thrust. and you need to adjust the crank angle so that it doesn't push down on the front as much.

Two quick observations guys. You have to consider your weight distribution. You have a lot of weight on the back have of the hull, add the captain and you start getting the pendulum effect. Got to move it around, like moving the fuel cell and battery. Maybe moving the captain to the front. Also, I think you running a gear box, like a 2 to 1? That allows you to turn the motor at a max of 6,000 RPMs while keeping the prop at 3,000 RPMs Anything above 3,000 RPMs the prop reaches what known as the critical point of departure. In other words, you props can simply fragment. Also you have to insure you air push is correct. This is done by raising and lowering the back of the motor, never allowing you prop to go lower then 4 inch’s below the transom. I really like the Honda motor idea. I’m not sure at what RPMs that motor turns the HP on at. But keep that prop no more then 3,000 RPMs. As a safety note, never walk behind the boat when the blades are turning. A simple washer or any object that gets in the prop becomes a bullet as it’s slung out the back. And that prop will suck every loose item into it. Stay safe and ride.
