Us Indonesians love ladder-framed diesel-powered SUVs for a number of reason: 1. Decent fuel economy 2. Cheap(ish) running cost due to availability of cheap diesel fuel 3. I went to buy a new one but the new model was more expensive, not as well spec’d and not as good to drive so I didn’t buy one. Saw the FJ Cruiser in the US - I would have bought one but they didn’t import it into the UK. This model looks fantastic but it’s a diesel! Why is there no hybrid or petrol version? ( I understand that Toyota are allergic to ev’s). My conclusion, they are either completely incompetent at marketing or don’t want to sell cars here in the UK!

I want one bad. I always loved the land cruisers but they've horribly overpriced for so long. If 50k is truly the target price for these they'll sell like crazy.
@hedydd27 ай бұрын
It’s likely that the more basic models at that price will not be built or imported for a good while, which means a couple of years hence, by which time they may well cost £60k+ with inflation; similar money to the First Edition. Beware of teething troubles or specifications that will soon change with First Editions. Land Rover brought the first edition Defenders out with the 2.0 diesel which they soon discontinued in favour of the 3.0 straight six, partly because their 2.0 proved to be unreliable at that time. It wouldn’t surprise me if a 2.0 was not reintroduced to the range to compete in price with this Cruiser though.

We will be driving back to California from Cale Hatteras, NC to LA off-road the entire way and filing it. 😅

I drove my wife's boss 150 Prado out to Canteen Creek in the Northern Territory. While driving the black-top of the Stuart Highway I said, "I don't know what all the fuss is what the Prado". Then we left the highway and headed east to Canteen Creek. With every passing kilometre the revelation sank in. "Now I get it, this is a very good vehicle". Then last year my neighbour had to leave the country and sell his cars and one of them was a 120 Series Prado with 270,000kms on the odometer, so I bought it. Being the 120 GXL it also has 180 litre fuel capacity.
@roberthoyt79217 ай бұрын
Toyota might not use the Prado name for the new Land Cruiser 250 after all since the 250-Series looks more like the Land Cruiser J60 from the 1980s rather than older Prados which were Land Cruisers 90, 120, and 150.
@itssidx7 ай бұрын
It is called the Land Cruiser in North America and Europe since they discontinued the regular Land Cruiser 300 series whereas in the UAE/other Middle eastern countries and Australia it is still called Prado (the smaller cheaper variant)
@roberthoyt79217 ай бұрын
@@itssidx It should be called universally as the Land Cruiser 250, because there is no singular Land Cruiser after all. There are actually three different Land Cruisers rather than one.
@floofy1177 ай бұрын
There's no point in differentiating it in the markets where this is the only version available. So you will see that in the countries that have all 3 models available this one is still called the Prado like Australia, middle east and africa@@roberthoyt7921

I've been looking at old FJ body-off restorations - love 'em, but. I won't say they were inferior to Jeeps in the USA, but, in my experience (late sixties through 70's) the right gear made all the difference in the right terrain. Body lifts, suspension lifts, and tire technology were beginning to evolve; 15" rims and 30 x 10.50 - 15's rapidly gained notoriety but could rub the springs/ frame across the board. Rust was an enemy and limited fuel capacity was an issue. When our president returns, all foolishness gets the boot in the USA and the Land Cruiser demonstrated here will flourish! I can wait.

In a world of crossovers and coupe SUVs it's a nice change to finally to see authentic cars launched, like the J250 and the GX 550, that are true to themselves and not trying to be something that they're not. Make authenticity, durability, and personality great again!

My wife really wants one of these. I agree with her that it’s very nice (especially the editions with the round DRLs, those are slick!) but it’s simply impractical since we don’t go off-roading and the MPG is so low. That being said… I am very glad this car exists, and I’d very much like to drive one someday.

Funny how there seem to be subtle differences in locking the diffs on the USA and EU models. In USA you get a button for rear locker and center locker and switch for H4 and L4. Yet in the EU version the switch has H4F (free?) H4L (center locked) and L4L (low, center locked), and only a button for rear locker and the other is empty, maybe for a front locker option? That would mean EU could get it triple locked from the factory which is awesome, but why the difference?

We love our Prados in South Africa and Australia. The biggest problem with this is big and heavy and the engine is too weak for its size. The outgoing Prado has the same engine and it is sluggish and if you want to tow in remote areas diesel consumption goes down the toilet. The indicative price really deserved a V6 diesel or the US petrol engine. Other than that it’s a great vehicle and will sell loads.
