A fan of the EX30 design and offering but just BEWARE that the cheapest version does NOT have a HEAT PUMP so expect to have at least a 30% reduction of the range when running in colder climates, which is very poor considering the max range is 209 miles!!! So getting only around 140mile range for a £33k electric vehicle is shocking and no excuse and heat pumps should be standard on all EVs.

Thanks, Ginny. It's funny how different reviewers have different opinions as most reviewers seem to think Volvo has one-pedal down, better than most carmakers. And Ginny is one of the few to mention the voice commands for Volvo's interface. There is one misconception that some people are saying and that is because the car is made in China it's more inexpensive. Volvo makes their flagship sedan in China, the S90, at least for the US market, and it is not inexpensive. In fact, it's costly. Lotus will make their flagship SUV, the Eletre, in China. Polestar will make the Polestar 5 sedan in China and that will cost a ton of money. And Volvo plans to make the EX30 in Belgium in 2025 or after 2025, that was recently announced. So, making it in China probably doesn't make it less costly to buy for consumers. The other things mentioned did help bring the price down plus it is on a shared Geely platform. But, other very expensive cars use shared platforms. I like this interior. It reminds me of Volvo's Scandi interiors of previous generations but there's more attention paid to textures. That it is sustainable, or more sustainable than previous generations is laudable. Don't like the lack of instrument display behind the steering. But overall, love the interior. Good car. A modernized BEV XC40 that's maybe shrunken a bit too much?

I've been with drivers in cars like these and they weave and are distracted waaaay more than they care to admit. It's dangerous, take it from @MotomanTV who was hit by a distracted Tesla driver. These automotive journalists don't criticize car companies enough for this growing dangerous trend because I now realize they too are simply bad drivers themselves. The real range is terrible. 150 miles in winter. Shocking
@ellistreloar2047 Жыл бұрын
@@Isclachau That will be for the smaller battery. I have been driving an E Niro 64kwh for three years in the UK. It has a NMC battery similar chemistry to the EX30 Plus and Ultra 69kWh cars. The E Niro had a WLTP range of 282 miles yet early car reviewers criticised it for having much less. However, in summer months we regularly achieve 300 miles range for mixed urban/highway driving; 280 miles highway/motorway driving. In winter we achieve 250-260 miles range on mixed journeys; 240 miles highway/motorway driving. These figures are similar to those reported by others in the UK owners Facebook group. Winter efficiency in an EV will always be less since cold air is more dense adding drag and all the heating, lights, wipers are powered from the HV battery. EV efficiency is 90+%. In an ICE car the heating is provided from the ‘waste’ from combustion - typically only 25-30% efficient - so the additional winter requirements are disguised by all the waste. Our E Niro is a 200bhp car cD 0.29. The EX30 is 280bhp cD 0.29 so I expect similar, perhaps slightly less efficiency, but with a larger battery in the Volvo I expect to achieve similar range as the E Niro.

It is capable of stronger regen, but it needs you to use the brake pedal to get all of it. It has over the air updates, so yes, most likely.

A blend of motor regen and traditional friction braking would be an acceptable compromise to achieve one-pedal driving. I read that Tesla do that when the battery is cold/full meaning regen is limited. Ideally though, the EX30 would achieve full one-pedal driving experience purely using regen-braking, when there the battery is able to accommodate the energy.

This is the 5th back to back review I've seen on the EV30. I like the narrative down to earth review of the EX30. Well done. As with the other 4 videos, I can't help but get a first impression that the EV30 is a mixed bag. The design is very nice, but after that it seem polarizing and show a lot of compromises, and the reviews also seem to feel a reflection of a bit of cynicism to the critique, which feel on point. The summary is I feel the price is not appealing for what you get and thus not priced right, making me come to the conclusion the EV30 is priced to expensive for its value, for all 3 tiered offerer gsm, and misses the Mark for a luxury compact EV, despite the Volvo badge. I had high hopes, too, but at first impression the appeal is somewhat gone. It's not the review, but rather the obvious compromises coming to light, if which the list is too big. It's not just this review, but others are showing similar signs.

Beautiful looking and affordable EV, well done Volvo. She did fail to mention a few things on her review, such as charging times and options. I saw another video and the reviewing stated the base model comes with heated seats and wheel. The lack of buttons and having the speedometer in the center is just like the Tesla and I am sure I would get used to it over time. It does make it easier to voice commands thru Google instead of trying to use the screen while driving which is extremely dangerous. She didn't demonstrate it but another reviewer did, he just asked Google to turn on the AC and it worked perfectly. The outside looks great and the minimalistic interior also like the Tesla looks good except what one person already commented on is the self cleaning oven type dash. I don't like it much at all and it makes the vehicle look cheap, I would prefer just a solid color, and I'm not sure about that square steering wheel, I will see how it feels when I test drive one. . I think with this kind of pricing it will do well, it's certainly the most affordable EV you can buy in the US. I always liked the Tesla but they do have quality control issues and are far more expensive, so once this Volvo is available I will strongly consider trading in my gas vehicle for this EV.

Yes this makes it more expensive but I really think there should be a version with these options: 1: too small in the back. Car needs to be a little longer 2: no dash or HUD is a big let down 3: It should be a bigger battery that can do 350 miles 4: should allow for 22kw charging

Also another one, no window buttons in front for rear windows. Everyone and their dog was complaining about it in the VW ID cars. But suddenly now nobody cares because it is a Volvo.

The most off putting thing is the bit about using a different battery to other more expensive EVs. Firstly the battery is much heavier meaning less MPH. Secondly and more worryingly the battery in this car doesn’t perform so well in cold weather. The more I read about EVs the more likely I am to stick to buying another hybrid when I buy a new car next spring. There’s quite a lot to get your ahead around (access to charging points, lifespan and performance of batteries, depreciation, range, cost of repairs, excessive cost in UK compared with other countries) when buying an EV and you need to put in hours of research before buying one. Thank goodness for KZbin! Manufacturers aren’t upfront about the drawbacks. I’m reminded of one Latin phrase CAVEAT EMPTOR (buyer beware) and one originally German term THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAIL.

It really is the one car that am looking for after my current Niro lease ends in 2025. Small, good battery capacity (same as my niro for a smaller footprint !) bet for a good range too. Also beating my niro in terms of charging with the 22kw basic charging and 150kw fast charging ! Just whishing it had head-up display and a small screen behind the whell, am not a fan of everything being centralized in the middle console .

One pedal driving - I believe they set it like that, because most people that aren't use to it, gets motion sickness easily. Wife had the issue when we were test driving an electric xc40 and electric c40. Hope there are granular options for it in an OTA update.

I know every EV reviewer loves one pedal driving, but I can't help but think that there are times when coasting must be better for your economy? I admit I've never driven an EV, I know some like Hyundai have paddles where you can alter the amount of regen, but without that wouldn't you have to keep your foot planted to maintain speed? If you have regen as soon as you take your foot off the pedal, don't you lose speed straight away unless you're accelerating? Or is it a bit more nuanced than that? I do like the idea of systems where if you brake it uses regen unless you brake hard, then it kicks in the brakes
@michlblacksmith Жыл бұрын
If you are used to one paddle driving, you don't want to miss it. It is really comfy that you don't have to brake and if you want to have less regan just push the accelerator a bit - really easy.

I agree with everything you say about it, i like nearly everything about it, especially the lite blue colour. Had electric cars now for 6 years and now drive a Tesla, I think i would prefer the Volvo, but you can't go on long trips reliably. Trust me on this, watching people queuing and even fighting at charging stations waiting to be ripped off to attempt to charge their cars is not a reassuring sight. Yes people will tell you charging is no hassle, and sometime it isn't, but mostly it is. The problems go like this, Finding a charger, finding one not in use, finding one that works, often trying to download the app and get it to work, the cost. If Tesla open all there chargers to everyone i think i will be looking at a diesel. Now don't get me wrong, electric cars are great, easy to own and nice to drive, and would highly recommend one to anyone with home charging and never drive outside the cars range.
@AlanTov Жыл бұрын
You now very rarely need an app. Any queuing is usually just a few minutes. I’ve never ever seen any aggression at chargers in 3 years of EV ownership.

Hi, I'm considering this to replace my XC40 Recharge as we don't need such a large car. Have you any information on if software issues have been resolved? Infotainment screens bricking and sometimes working sometimes not with the emergency brake randomly activating? fortunately it wont be until March 2025 but I do need to decide in the next month or so due to lead in times?? I cant imagine Volvo not resolving this quickly.
@fredbloggs724 ай бұрын
Hopefully by 2025 they might have fixed the problems with it, I've heard stories of Volvo having to take some of them back, certainly my experience during a test drive was dire
@anonymouspdg61214 ай бұрын
What happened on your test drive?
@fredbloggs724 ай бұрын
The test drive was in a early UK car, the heated steering wheel wouldn't turn off, the glove box wouldn't open(done in software), the speed limit indicator was all over the place, bonnet wouldn't open, voice control wouldn't work, car wouldn't switch off until you got out and locked it, Speedo was too far from sightline, a couple of weeks later I drove a Smart based on same base, it worked perfectly. I read of continued problems with software and the screen packing up and Volvo allowing allowing owners to hand them back.
@anonymouspdg61214 ай бұрын
Wow, that isn't acceptable for a major manufacturer to allow a car to be driven like that. May explain why you cant configure a new EX30 on their website. However I believe that the 2025 Model year will be available to configure from Monday the 8th. if that's correct, I certainly hope they have resolved these issues so it works as it should. Not a good situation for an international company!
@anonymouspdg61214 ай бұрын
Just been to see a UK EX30, expecting to love the looks and design, software issues not withstanding. I have to say, the outside looks good but it could just be because I'm moving from AN XC40 but the inside is underwhelming to say the least and both myself and wife thought the seats were pretty flat with little side support. I went intending to test drive it but after sitting inside neither of us felt an urge to drive it. Hard to explain but just didn't get the positive feeling we expected. On a plus, the salesman said that a new software upgrade had landed that has sorted out 'most' of the issues. Think we may be looking for a different car now😔
