Regarding Chinese characters, why does every Korean have a name written in Chinese? Why are the books shown in Korean historical dramas all in Chinese? Read more books, the history is there, long before your whole country's history, and historical diversity there is out of your imagination.

Thats beacuse the Chinese Athletes were kep well fed, and well trained, whilst other foriegn athletes were fed poorly, and have no access to trainging gears.. and somedtimes isolated to undisclosed locations for a week or two.. making them miss out their competition. I would NOT be surprised that China wont over 100 gold medals, the others barely got a gold or two.
