I did the Hong Kong National Hill Climb myself yesterday. The good news is I came 3rd in my over 60s age group. The bad news is there were three of us in that age group! Still lots of fun though. Cheers

@amy.cycling.adventures we use a variety of local hills in the area. There tends to be a pub at either the top or the bottom for sign on and celebrations afterwards

Great climbing Amy, brilliant stuff. I think all of the extra weight from the mudguards, mud flaps, and dirt is supposed to add stability to your bike, which in turn helps you climb faster. Maybe? 😂

You were joking about the mount for your light, but I thought it was now compulsory to have lights on hill climbs. 25 years ago when I last did a hill climb or any RTTC event, it wasn't compulsory, but times change, rules change, and the names of the governing bodies even change.

Tell Kyle his derailleur cage was in that position b/c he was pretty much in the big ring + big cog. That puts a lot of stress on the chain (aka "cross-chaining").

Yes, and the same gear ratio will be available in the small chainring, approximately two-thirds of the way down the cassette (towards the smaller cogs in other words) with a much straighter chain line. Cross-chaining isn’t terrible in short doses but it’s not a good habit and particularly if you’re riding hard (doing a hill climb for example) then it won’t help the life of the drivetrain

You seem to still be using to high of gear. You should use a higher cadence, a faster spin, a lower gear. Your legs won't fatigue so quickly or get so much lactic acid. I know people tell you that all the time but you just don't do it lol. Looked hard no matter which gear people were using.

Yes I defo need to work on my cadence, naturally I prefer to push a bigger gear I find spinning faster harder! Gonna try doing it more on the turbo! Thanks for watching ☺️

You'll also get a very amusing video of you falling off the rollers because they are really difficult to balance on, but when you can balance on the rollers you will look super professional.
