The long end solo by Gilmour actually moved one reactor to literal tears (A young woman). It's amazing how much emotion can pour out of a guitar.

'The Wall' album that this song is from, came out in 1979. However this concert took place some 15 years later in 1994. And yes, Pink Floyd has always been years ahead of their time both in sound and live concert technology. They sat a standard that few others if any have ever met. Always best to do the studio versions first if you want to really get into the lyrics which in Floyd's case are always exceptional. That way you're not so distracted by the incredible live presentation and will most likely appreciate it even more when you do check out the live version.

One of the greatest rock bands of all time. Their Dark Side of the Moon album was on Billboard’s charts for 987 weeks!! This song is from their iconic The Wall album about the dreariness and despair of British society. Dany of the Warning counts this as one of her inspirations.

At the height of their career, Pink Floyd had more money invested in their light and laser show than any other band in existence, and the guy with the guitar is the heart and soul of Pink Floyd David Gilmour. If you don’t know him, you don’t know Pink Floyd, one other piece of advice With Pink Floyd don’t try to analyze it just enjoy it take back close your eyes turn it up and the rest will take place. This is not dance music. It is spiritual music, inner soul, discovery, music from the same concert. There are two other songs I would recommend one of them is. Sorrow. And the other is High hopes Those two songs should get you established into a whole new experience of great music of the 70s you might be surprised as to what happens to your future mindset

To say that David Gilmour killed that solo would be the understatement of the century...he LEVELED all past present and future electric guitar solos PEROID. I've been a Pink Floyd/ David Gilmour fan for 50 years now. To me, all of his guitar playing is simply the best I've heard ever due to the fact that he is so versatile, the master of tone, the master of the string bend, and as many agree, can hit you in the heart with one well bent note better than most can with a whole album.

Part of an album all about a child who grows up to become a Rock Star and eventually slips into insanity. This track "Pink" is barely conscious, on the floor of a Hotel bedroom, being given a "shot" by a "doctor" to get him back on his feet so he can go out on the stage to perform. So the entire album is one story, which makes it tricky taking it out of context 😉

The song is from a concept double album, The Wall, released in 1979. This concert is from the band's Division Bell Tour in 1994. It was filmed and recorded and released a year later as a live CD and DVD called P.U.L.S.E. The young guy with the guitar is Guy Pratt playing a headless bass.

Actually first release on home video was VHS and Laserdisc in 1995 - I still have the Laserdisc, but nothing to play it on anymore. The DVD was long delayed, but eventual release was in 2006. The Blu-ray wasn't released until 2019.

Just a remark on some lyrics "When I was a child I had a fever, my hands felt like two gallons". That is a real thing. When I was about 7 or so I was sick with a huge fever my hands felt like balloons. It was pretty strange. That was 66 years ago. Another thing: During an interview Eric Clapton was asked what it felt like to be the greatest guitarist in the world and he reportly said "I don't know, you should ask David Gilmor."

His playing is highly emotional, even in the songs that rock hard, and there are several. Pink Floyd takes you on a journey, their music is an experience. Definitely give the songs Hey You and Money a listen. 💗

1. This concert is from 1994, not 1979. The studio album containing the song was released in ‘79. 2. Pink Floyd has always had one of the largest budgets of any artist devoted to perfect audio reinforcement and reproduction-incredibly clear sound. 3. This album was an HUGE deal. It was the highest-quality, most-professionally-filmed concert series in the history of music. No expense was spared. 4. Rick Wright and David Gilmour have some of the most precise diction in popular music. Their voices are perfectly clear, yet somehow never sound artificial or forced. 5. If you cannot make out what these guys are singing, I wish you luck in your daily conversations.

This is what unfiltered talent looks like. They take the universes energy and turn it directly into musical form. And when you witness something that direct.....you have to pause and re-think things. All the crazyness of our chaotic world start to make less sense, and respect for that direct connection becomes more than a passing thing you heard, to a goal for yourself.....for you to have that connection. This music will change you ...for the better if you let it. Welcome to the machine. (another floyd song by the way.)

Their album the wall is a whole story to be listed to all at once. You can listen to individual songs but the story will not be as obvious. This song is about a doctor giving him a shot to get him through a concert. There is much more than meets the eye with pink Floyd. After listening the wall since it came out, I still pick up details about the music and story I had never taken notice of before. Thank you This was fun to watch.

The original is from 1979, but this performance was in 1994, Pulse Live, probably one of the most iconic rock concerts ever. There's a deep backstory in the writing of the lyrics, which anyone would have to look into; they're not obvious unless you know the history. Appreciate your reaction, especially that you are okay with not knowing on first listen (which is part of the mystique). Keep reacting, sir!

My ex-brother in law was a lighting guru here in Australia, worked his way up doing local bands, had the first computer controlled light show in the early 80's, did ALL the greats who came out here - from Queen to Elton John, Rod Stewart, Kiss, AC/DC you name it from the mid 70s to the early 00's. Not sure if he is still doing the rigging himself and so on or just running the company but I think he's still around. When Floyd came here, they brought their own gear but he worked with them, supplying all of the local riggers, scaffolding etc they needed and couldn't bring with them and he was blown away by the gear they had and the complexity of the set up. Once they had it "tuned" to the local area, they were able to move it from city to city rapidly and he was offered a job with them when they left but he turned it down because he didn't want to move his kids from school and his wife had her own company doing lighting for Theatre and stage shows.

This is the difference between someone speaking fast over a computer track and real musicians. There's nothing particularly spaecial about David Gilmore's fender Stratocaster, it's the man playing it that's special. Everyone on that stage has dedicated their lives to being the best at what they do. I was at this very gig at Earls court in London and I don't think there was a dry eye in the place, including me. The whole comcert was at this level and I was emotionally drained for 2 days. I suggest you watch this from the same concert. "The great gig in the sky" There are no words but this is where the backing vocalists really shine. Each one is phenomenal and brings a different texture to the mood. I was at that concert in May 1994. It was a visual and auditory experience that no other band could produce. The bass player without the headstock on his bass is Guy Pratt. The video was recorded in Earls Court, London during a Pulse 1994 concert. Audio recording standards were at an advanced state as early as the 1960s, arguably they have declined with the likes of mp3 files. Pink Floyd liked to use state of the art lighting and effects, I believe this tour was the first use of copper vapour lasers outside of military applications.

It's sad that you've never been to a rock concert, because you will never, and I mean never, get to see in person what you just saw. From the mid '60's to the early '80's, the greatest bands the world will ever know created astonishing music and concerts. They're all dead, retired, or close to it now. You may be able to see a Rolling Stones concert or the rare The Who or Moody Blues concert, but those guys are all in their 70's. But if you do get a chance to see them, do it!

Waters told Rolling Stone in a December 2004 interview that the meaning behind “Comfortably Numb” was based on personal experience. In 1977, Waters suffered from hepatitis, which can cause tiredness, abdominal pain, and vomiting. At a show that year in Philadelphia, a sleazy doctor injected him with a tranquilizer before a show. He said “That was the longest two hours of my life, trying to do a show when you can hardly lift your arm.”Waters was placed in a state where he was “Comfortably Numb.” He was heavy and sleepy-everything felt similar to the lines Hello? (Hello, hello, hello).

Welcome to the experience of Pink Floyd. They have always been cutting edge in terms of music and stage. This video clip is from a concert in the 1990s---and the stage/lighting show cost 25 million, THEN. The entire concert, called 'Pulse' is amazing. These are musicians at the height of their skills. Their music endures and resonates through the years. 'Sorrow' is another tune from the concert where the musicianship is exceptional.

Nobody pulled their lighters out at the concert. Everyone just stared with their mouths open.

I am very glad that you finally are a Floyd fan. I saw Pink Floyd in 1994 twice in New York at the old Yankees Stadium in the Bronx and the second show was at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey when I was only 17 at the time now 46. Another good song with a great guitar 🎸 solo from Gilmour is Sorrow. Happy New Year’s!

This is from the Pulse tour in 1994. Part of their new album The Division Bell. One of the greatest if not The greatest guitar solos of all time. You just can't get music like this anymore especially in any form of Rap.

Hi, I'm enjoying your first reaction to Pink Floyd, I would suggest that you check out this entire Pulse concert from 1994, then go on seeing how deep the Pink Floyd rabbit hole goes, it's an awesome journey that I'm sure you will be glad you took.

As a lot of other people have said, this is actually from a concert in 1994 in London… I went to see them on this tour in Paris and the lights, lasers and sound were all something else. At the time they had the most powerful lasers in use for visuals, in fact where the Paris show was outdoors they had to get special permission to use them as air traffic control had to reroute flight paths as they could be seen for miles. Still makes my hairs stand on end to this day 👍👍
