Newbie here. Having been a Floyd fan since 1967 I can totally relate to your reaction. I'm 71 years young and my last band covered this tune in 2021. Even playing it live I would get emotional. Gilmour's solo prowess is beyond comparison. His guitar is singing. It's talking. Sure, there are many guitar gods, but Gilmour is a singular phenom. Thank you very much for this honest reaction. I am not an English speaker, my mother tongue is Spanish and I didn't need to understand the lyrics when I heard them for the first time. Music is for human beings and the language is universal Gilmour touches all parts of the spirit. They were one of the reasons I learn English because that beautiful music needs to be completely understood with lyrics too.

Saw Pink Floyd in '73 on the 'Dark Side of The Moon Tour' , was in the grays of Maple Leaf Gardens , and my ticket was six dollars and 60 cents . Also saw the 'Close To The Edge' tour that same year by YES . So I count myself lucky to have experienced those and many other concerts , it was a great time to be alive !

The young bass player is Guy Pratt, who was married to Richard Wright’s daughter and a very accomplished musician Every single song on this tour is a banger. I saw 2 shows in London, having stayed 2 days after the first one to try to get another ticket As everyone left post show, there was near silence as we tried to digest what we had seen and heard Eventually my buddy stopped and said to me - did we just really experience that?- and we hugged and smiled and sparked it another joint, having had.about 6 pre gig 😎 By the way, that mirror ball was about the size of a small house and its appearance caused a collective gasp! Never been a show like it, never will be again Glad you enjoyed

We were at Earls Court when, as the concert opened, a section of seating at the rear collapsed, so we all went home again and had to return the fol,lowing Monday for the re-scheduled show, it was still more than worth it. It was also my wife's first experience of PF, she was less keen to come back, but was glad she did in the end :-)

That bass guitarist is Guy Pratt who replaced Roger Waters when Waters tried to disband Pink Floyd. He sued to disband the group and lost so they continued touring and producing music without him.

There are three original members on this show. Nick Mason (Drums percussion), Richard Wright (Keyboards vocals) and David Gilmour (Guitar vocals). This Pulse concert was for me their best live show.

50 years ago Pink Floyd were already 200 years ahead of everybody! I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971 and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times. Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday. The best guitar solo of Gilmour is always the last one we listened. There are so many best solo of David!

You're right to be envious. The atmosphere at a Pink Floyd concert stays with you for life. I saw them in '88 and they already had the huge circle that doubles as a screen to play movie clips. In the queue to enter, they weren't letting glass in, so bottles of spirits were being passed back along the line. You'd take a slug, pass it back and repeat. Once inside, guys wandered among the crowd with their girlfriends on their shoulders, tossing joints to everyone who put their hand up. At one point on the screen a huge bomber aircraft appeared… just as the real thing actually flew low and slow over us at the outdoor venue. Fucking magic.

Seeing someone react to their first experience of this song and especially this performance takes me back to when I first heard and saw it. I absolutely sobbed with emotion and the force of emotive intent in the light/stage show. I missed the PULSE tour by two years (by age...I was 11 during the tour, and my first concert was at 13), but I think if I had witnessed this in real life, I would have collapsed in a hysterical mess of laughing, clapping, crying, and speaking in tongues

The young man is a fill-in bass player who is extremely talented and has played for many star studded acts. His name is Guy Pratt and he is married to the Floyd Keyboardist's (Richard Wright) daughter. If someone mentioned this already, sorry but didn't see a comment. Loved the reaction. I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show Syracuse Carrier Dome in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all. When the “Disco Ball’ was uncovered and the lights hit it….. WHAT IS HAPPENING was what I said….The entire crowd was held in a trace and our minds totally blown by what we witnessed. I sparked up my pipe for this reaction, as I do to all Pink Floyd songs. Thanks

Very few backing vocalists could pull off what 25 year old Clare Torry improvised in about 3 takes in a session where she was brought in by recording engineer Alan Parsons to see what she could do to add to the track they had been working on for about a year that was originally titled 'The Mortality Sequence,' she first did some spoken word scatting then was told 'no we don't want any words.' When she finished after saying that she'd given it her best shot she was paid a £30 session fee, double the normal rate as it was on a Sunday and thought she'd failed and it wouldn't be used. It wasn't until she was in a record shop and heard it that she found out it was. She was given no credits on the album. It took a lawsuit to give her credit and some compensation as a cowriter of the song.

Doing two or three takes on an album cut is not the same as doing the damn thing every night on a world tour. You dont know whether any other singer could have done what Claire Torry did. In fact,, if I remember rightly in the DSOTM documentary, Claire herself had said she didnt expect to be called for this session, she was expecting Vicky Brown, Sam's mother to get the call instead. It could have just as easily have been Vicky Brown doing something completely different to what Claire did but thats not how life turned out. Claire was called to that session, she did what she did and that was that. End of. And as great as it was, and remains, all it is is a studio cut. Nobody gives a s*** that you can read the wikipedia page about that track and spout it out on demand. Give it a floppin' rest already.

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school here in North Carolina when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend at the time and I loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I cannot describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. Our 4 adult children (28-33) love 70’s/80’s music just as we do. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.

Lucky enough to see this epic Tour in 1994. Birmingham, Alabama. Legion Field. The stage was so big that it started at the corner on One End zone, and ran out to the 25 yard line on the other side. Absolutely Incredible. I, along with 75,000 enjoyed this once in a lifetime Concert. ❤️❤️

I've watched this performance I don't know how many hundreds of times. But, a lot. And I still get moved to tears. Pink Floyd truly live on their own planet, their own world. They make the most life-affirming music.They also performed a song called High Hopes at that concert. I think it's even more moving than C. Numb as it evokes memories of childhood. Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a David Gilmour show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. Hard to explain how awesome that moment was in my life. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold. All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible. The Red Fender Stratocaster he used for this concert in the Guitar Collector World is ....PRICELESS

I regard myself as being so lucky fortunate call it what you will to have grown up with pink floyd and so many very talented rock groups of the age British rock music in the sixtees onward was incredible we had so much choice it was a fantastic experience but the group for me that are still a world apart are without question pink floyd david gilmour has a very special gift of conveying his emotions through his pure genius with his guitar im 74 years young and will be forever young listening to the masters of progressive sycadelic rock that is pink floyd what an absolutely incredible group there has never been a group like them and I dont think there ever will be another

That was the first of 2 encores. The 2nd was 'Run Like Hell.' I saw this show 'live' two nights in a row in Oakland , CA. 1994. This is the end of about 3 hours worth of music. An absolutely AWESOME night.

I remember at the end of the song, I end up on my knees, totally spent, done, emotionally drained because I realised something that will never ever ever be as good as that and I thank all the gods on earth for being alive to witnesed. There are other guitar players who may be more technically better players but no one can bring out the emotion that David Gilmour can evoke with his playing! He's a master! This performance is the best solo ever!! I read that Eric Clapton was once asked what it's like to be the best guitar player in the world and he responded you had better ask David Gilmour about that! It took us 5 ,16 hour days to build this show. The round screen in the center had been a part of their Tours for a long time.Hazers and moving lights, "paints":the screen and Cyclorama on the upstage wall. Tilting the screen and pointing it at Gilmore during his Solos is a dramatic effect. Great surround sound, from the "Quad Towers" we built on top of the stadium bleachers. If you think it hits hard just watching it on video, you can only imagine what it does to you live with 100,000 watts of power going through you, blinding lights, 360° sound from all around the stadium, and even lightning in the sky for added effect. Talk about walking out of there Comfortably Numb. And that wasn't even the finale!! Check out the closer "Run Like Hell" from this same concert when you get the chance.

Dave Gilmour created history that when he played that solo which in my opinion is the best solo in any song played live, he made his guitar sing like nothing I've heard before and I've yet to hear anything better, even Stairway To Heaven live solo which says a lot.

You are an intuitive person. A few decades ago, I worked as a 911 dispatcher for police fire and EMS. My co-worker and I would get off our shift and chill at her apartment and listen to this song and also Time (really just a lot of Pink Floyd). It helped us express what we’d dealt with during intense shifts at the police department. I’m going to subscribe to you now. You’re pretty awesome and you definitely get the Pink Floyd experience. Please consider listening to the full albums all at once, you’ll get the intended result for sure. I don’t work in the law enforcement side of law anymore, more of the court side but it’s now good to light one and still trip on Pink Floyd. The meanings of the songs definitely hit different as the years go by.

Saw this tour the summer of 94 in New Orleans. Hands down the best show I've ever been to. They closed with Run like Hell and blew everything up. Incredible show/tour.

I was there, too!! it was 2 days before my 27th birthday at the time. The show at the Superdome was on May 14, 1994. I still have my ticket stub, too!! That show was a master class on how to put on a concert as far as sights and sound. They were even able to completely nullify the bad acoustics at the Dome, and had their sound come out completely clean and clear through their speakers. Totally amazing show from start to finish!! I also have the sound recording from that concert as well!!

I was there...Earl's Court London 1994...they did Run Like Hell as their final song, that's another one you need to check out. I remember leaving absolutely speechless.❤

Nothing like an epic guitar solo. For another jaw dropping performance heck out 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago live at Tanglewood. Terry Kath was amazing while he lived, and Chicago hasn't been the same since.

Ever since my grandmother, yes my grandma, gave me a Pink Floyd and CCR album for Christmas in 69 I’ve been a huge fan. I was also blessed to see them 3 times in concert. Still listen to their albums more than any other band. It’s just so relaxing to sit back with headphones on and some good ganja… allegedly!😎

I was fortunate enough (aka OLD) to see them twice. Once in 1988 and once in 1995 for the Pulse tour. I had VIP floor seats for Pulse; we all received seat cushions with the Division Bell logo printed on them. And yes, I still have them. My favorite band and this is my favorite song. David Gilmour is a legend!

I went to see the original the wall concert in Germany when I was just 30 years old (pink floyd fan since 1969) and it was the best concert I'd ever seen. We got in with a glass of beer (smoked some weed as well) and after more than 2 hours later, the glass was still full, so mesmerised of the show we were. Glad you're able to see the concert as well, although without Roger waters being there. Join the club ❤
