Melancholy, wistful, sad, regretful, looking back on better times. So beautiful it makes you cry. Fitting that it's the last song on their last real studio album, played on their last tour. The end of the run, but what a run it was! 50+ years and I'm still listening to them all the time, and will for the rest of my life.

I was 17 when I first heard this particular song. I loved it then because of the music itself. I'm 47 now, I still love it. But now I understand the emotions it evokes, and it takes me right back to being 17, a simpler time. At 17, the slide solo got a stank face. At 47, the slide solo gets tears because it goes straight to the soul and pulls. The grass was most definitely greener.

I love more then anything is seeing the reaction a whole new younger generation experiencing Floyd for the first time. I am 67 and in 1971 14 years old. We lived close to the Canadian border in Northern NY state. Canadian TV was one of the few channels we could get. We had been hearing "Echos" on CHOM FM out of Montreal and I was already becoming a fan. In the TV guide I saw "Pink Floyd Pompeii" coming on channel 2 late in the evening. My brother and I were glued to the TV and we were just mesmerized. From that moment on I was absolutely a Pink Floyd Devoted follower. At 17 years old I would see them live at the Autostade in Montreal for the first time. In 1977 I would be at the infamous "In the Flesh" concert at the Olympic stadium. I would not see the Wall concert as I was in Maine and just had no way to go to any of the tour dates. But in 1987 I would attend "Delicate Sound of Thunder" 2 times at Foxboro Mass. Finally in May of 1994 I would go to see the Pulse concert also at Foxboro with my 11 year old son who was just blown away. It was the next day my son picked up a guitar and never looked back. Almost ironically when David Gilmour auctioned off his guitar collection. My son attended the preview in NYC and took photos of the same candy apple red Strat that David played so many years before. From those photos my son had an exact duplicate made of the 57 reissue including the electronics. The best show? Delicate sound of Thunder which was just a spectacle. The copper vapor lasers shooting this green beam into the night sky so intense that a notice was issued for pilots to expect to see the lights in the area. Welcome to the world of Floyd.

Hi Millie. To paraphrase the Pink Floyd song, I wish you could have been there, too! I was lucky enough to be able to see them on this tour (which was actually called the 'Division Bell Tour' named after the album, PULSE was the name of the live album). I saw them in May 1994 at the old Foxboro Stadium in Massachusetts, so a few months before this concert was filmed at Earl's Court in October of that year. It was a truly amazing experience and one which I will never forget. Great reaction! 🙂

Went to see this concert (Pulse tour) in Vancouver, Canada, and it was so stunning... the comments about it meaning more later is so true - singing about time slipping away, and longing for the things that have been. It goes so much faster than you think it will, enjoy your life, make the most of it. If I could hop in a time machine and see it live again, I'd jump on that opportunity, absolutely.

I see young musicians react to this kind of music all the time. You say time machine. Some say they were born in the wrong era. I say none off that. Instead, i say study every aspect of this music and go create music just like this. You're young. You could bring this kind of music back and even make it better. Don't long for the past. Look to a future with really great music that your generation can create. Find your passion to create masterpieces like this and many other Pink Floyd songs. Also, other types you all are enjoying. The future of misic is in your hands. You can absolutely do it. Who knows. Maybe with music, you can change the world! Look at what this music has done to you and so many others.

❤I'll explain David Gilmour's style. Guitar Magazine back in the mid - late 90s wrote: David Gilmour is The Undisputed Dean Of The Compound Bend and has practically Perfect Note Placement. His solos are not technically difficult Note wise, but to be able to bend and release is difficult to mirror. David Gilmour said, not verbatim as I'll try to explain, that he plays his solos, mainly, as if like an Opera Singer. Play a note and bend it in certain ways and shake it like an Opera Singer. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth said, David Gilmour can take one note and bend it in so many ways where many other guitarists have to use the entire fretboard to do so. Something along those lines. About David Gilmour's mouth movement as he plays is because he is actually singing in his mind and actually moves his mouth muscles as if he were singing it and then relays it to his fingers in order to achieve the sound and or sounds he is wanting to make and or perform. For example, studies have shown that when a person is annunciating a word or words in their mind their trachea and larynx, maybe just larynx, moves as if talking. A great example of David Gilmour singing the notes that he is playing is in the song, (Best Acoustic Song Ever) Wish You Were Here short solos. I was 15 years old when the Pulse Tour was happening and I heard a commercial for it. When I heard the voice of David Gilmour sing, in the advertisement, "Ticking Away The Moments That Make Up A Dull Day...." I thought, WHAT THE HELL? I went out and bought The Dark Side of The Moon Album. I just went straight to the song Time. Then, when I heard that guitar Solo of his in the song Time, I thought.. okay.. time to pick up a guitar and start learning. That Solo is considered a Masterpiece of Composition. Not technically difficult to play, but again... He is and still is The Undisputed Dean Of The Compound Bend with practically Perfect Note Placement. Hence why many people say, "Damn! He can make that Guitar Sing!" All my life, I never understood why the 2nd (last Solo) of Comfortably Numb was never #1 in Best or Greatest Solos of All Time. However, finally a few years ago it became The Greatest or Best Solo of All Time. If you understand Music and Math, that Solo can be played Indefinitely. (If you don't get tired) It goes from B down to E and repeats. David Gilmour in an interview said something along the lines of, "The structure of the music allows me the freedom to just play." 🎸 To end.. David Gilmour admits that he never was a fast playing Guitarist. Does he really need to be? (rhetorically asking) 🎸 ❤🎉 Alice Cooper said something like, "Pink Floyd is Here... While everyone else is over here... " In an interview showing with his hands the separation of... No one is like nor ever will be like Pink Floyd.. 🎉 ❤😊🎉 David Gilmour is my favorite Guitarist and Artist 🎉 Roger Waters said that David Gilmour has a Very Powerful Voice 🎉🎉

Isn’t it wonderful to see a young person of the current generation saying she wishes she had a Time Machine to go back in order to witness a Pink Floyd concert. Here I am as a 67 year old who has been a fan of theirs from the first time I heard them. As a teenager I was in the merchant navy and I listened to Echoes every night when I went to bed. Later on in my life I did the hippy trail to India where I experienced smoking grass for the first time, I vividly remember listening to the album Wish You Were Here laid down in a park thinking I was on a voyage through space.(by the way boys and girls I do not condone the use of drugs of any kind, I only ever did that whilst in India) My biggest regret is that I had the chance to go see them live at Earl’s Court London but my dear departed wife talked me out of it because money was tight at the time. All I can do now is marvel at the young people hearing Pink Floyd for their first time and appreciating the magnificence of song songwriting and musicianship.😊

I find it fascinating just from a technical perspective that David can make his signature bend sound… with a slide guitar as well. His unique guitar sound mostly boils down to his ability to pre bend in a way no one else has ever been able to replicate. But you can’t pre bend a slide guitar lol… so how the hell? That takes precision that absolutely melts my brain.

Even after all there's years it's impossible to describe the connection they made with people. Pink Floyd was simply magic.

Saw them at the Montreal Olympic stadium in 1994... They did 3 nights in a row with 65K people attending... (saw the 3rd one) And I have to say that it was the best show I have ever seen, and I have seen quite a few of them. The next best show was Muse with Drones. But this show, the lights, ambiance and of course, the music was the greatest for me.

David Gilmore said one time that it's not how many notes you play on the guitar it's how you play a single note.
