It's not really, it is just a band-aid for a problem that should be solved another way. And it definitely wasn't puking oil for the reason that he thought it was, and on top of that, it probably isn't even a problem anymore. So now it's just a bunch of extra under-hood complexity that is not necessary

I don't know how YT stats work, just wanted to say I really like the long video format but can't always watch it all at once so if that stats show people not watching it all, doesn't mean they aren't coming back to finish. I enjoy your new series. Watching you work on the '56 reminds me of helping another really good mechanic work on a '65 GTO funny car named "Brutus" in San Jose, CA. I wish the guy I was helping would still be around to see how technology had evolved to allow a 6 second car be driven on the street and make it to the next racetrack. Brutus was a high 8 second car on 25% nitro and not capable of being driven on the street. He would have so enjoyed the whole concept and process of drag and drive and would have been very impressed with Alex. Oh well, that was almost 60 years ago, and he is now long gone. Drag racing is far out! ☺

I'm enjoying your new channel Dennis ! I started following Alex back when she was running "Badmaro", so obviously I've seen the '55 since it came in from outside for the first time. Anyone new to your channel who may not be familiar with this build should check out the entire thing from start to finish on "Riding With Alex Taylor". It's good to see some of the little details like in this video that might not have been shown during the build. I've been very impressed by your design and fabrication skills Dennis, and it's so cool you're sharing your ideas and experiences with everyone. It was nice to see Billy helping you guys out with the methanol tank seam repair too. He's come a long way over the past few years himself. I'm 75 now and I've dabbled in drag racing, asphalt, dirt, and even ice roundy-round racing, low level truck pulling, built a few Harleys, and did a LOT of street racing in the late '60's-'70's. I'm a lifelong FORD guy but appreciate any nice classic vehicles, especially ones like yours that are built and raced by you and not "store bought" !! And congrats on the 2nd place finish at "Drag Week" and guitar #2 !!

Hey Dennis, the bit about reducing the number of fittings, joiners and o-rings really hit a chord with me! I've been going through my fuel system and modifying/changing things to do the same. With a fuel burning Donovan in my face the fewer opportunities for leaks the better! Love the channel!

The brilliance in the simplicity, (common sense approach), of how you've dealt with evacuating and reintroducing the oil in the top of the motor on deceleration at the top of the track is masterful. The redundancy and safety optimizations in the mods you've made are great to see and learn from. I doubt I will ever apply them myself being older and basically medically retired but as someone who grew up turning wrenches it's still good to know. I always find it interesting to see exactly how these high horsepower applications are made to run safely, strong and reliably as they can. As you said at these levels things break, it's just part of the game and expected but you've done your best to alleviate and provide redundant safeties that are functional and work well as you've shown. I've already seen your stellar performance at drag week turning on a 6 second pass at all venues, something only a few ever achieve. Congratulations and it has to feel so good knowing all that hard word has paid off and seeing the smile and pride on your daughters face just has to be the cherry on top. Thanks for sharing your expertise and years of experience as someone in the position of having been there and done that at the higher levels of the sport. Hope this finds you and yours doing great. Take care and God Bless...
@billywirdАй бұрын
Yes sir you make a good point about making sure you have everything tightened. I had an International cabover that I did a major overhaul on the Cummins engine and i had never done one of those engines. Well when I installed the front balancer I tightened it but had it in mind to torque the bolts after I had the bottom end done and could hold the engine while torquing the bolts. Well guess what. I actually ran the truck for a few runs and coming back from Atlanta to Jacksonville I noticed a vibration. The next day got up under the truck and surprise surprise. The balancer was all warped half the bolts fell out and there were just a couple holding the balancer on. Fortunately the threaded holes in the end of the crankshaft were OK and I got a new balancer and of course bolts. I think that if I had gone another twenty miles that balancer would have come off and I would have had a bad day. That'll learn ya all right. New better and will not do that again. It is not to satisfy the keyboard warriors to use a jack stand or stands under a vehicle. I knew a man who was under a car just briefly and checking something and he had the car on a floor jack and the damn jack gave way and fortunately because the vehicle still had the wheels on it bounced and tapped him on the head. If the tires weren't on the vehicle it would have killed him. Be safe man, we want to see you in the future.
