First Foreigner Impressions/Walking Tour of Downtown Iloilo City Proper, Philippines

What attracts foreigners/expats to live in Iloilo? Iloilo feels like a young city, with many Universities in the city, there’s plenty of younger people walking around. Young Filipinos are not averse to saying Hello especially when You’re waving a camera around. I interviewed a pretty filipina studying Tourism.
I was staying in City Proper near Robinson’s Mall which has a Food Court. Food Court’s at Malls in the Philippines bear no comparison with the food courts at the Malls in Thailand. Not far away from Robinson’s is an SM Store, but it’s mainly just a Supermarket, there’s the bigger SM City, north of the River, near Megaworld.
Everything you need you can find around the vibrant streets of City Proper.
The Riverside Walk was close by and easy to walk to. But apart from the area around City proper, the lovely Riverside Walk, Megaworld district, the cycle lanes - this is beginning to sound like a Monty Python sketch, and Molo which I’ll show you on another video, what has Iloilo got to offer this expats who choose to live here?
The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.
Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in the world with its low cost of living and all year sunshine. Retiring in the Philippines is affordable on a budget of less than $1000 per month.
Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends.

My Filipina girlfriend lives in the agricultural district of her town and has to travel to city hall for her job and usually says she is going to “town proper”. It seems to be a term used throughout the Philippines that means “downtown “, or something like that.
