Well and then look how he had his retribution in one game against Boden his three pawns were on the seventh rank e7 f7 and g7 at least two would have queened in another game Boden castled and then morphy made his king run from g8 to b8 and then a7 and a6 then back to b8 his king made ten moves morphys king made only two moves talk about humiliation only Morphy can come up with something like this he had his revenge on Boden

It would still be winning for white since it would be a bishop pair against a knight but it makes you wonder how such a simple mistake can ruin your game.

Apollyon, you might be wrong, black would have rook and a knight which is better than bishop pair. Also since both the bishops are on the same file, Rf8 will win atleast one bishop.

You don't have to move the King 11:45, you can interpose the N it is protected 2x and even if R checks on the 8th rank, now the B can interpose. You also can't capture the B at 13:14 you must play Rf2. Capture allows check fork with the N.

Even if it is not very important, I would like to mention that in 13:06 you cannot capture the bishop because knight to d2 will fork king and rook. So definitely rook to f2 is the way to go. I think also that going directly for rook to h1 before moving the bishop may work :)

I’ve had this thought for a while but I haven’t bothered to share it before. Please, share your opinions. Is there a form of chess where each turn allows two moves back to back per player? If not I wish there could be. It would zero out much of the knowledge related to opening theory and so make chess more interesting for me personally. Thank you! :)

9th move, 160 years old, typical 4 knights variation with bishops in the middle BUT this position never reached again. It shows that chess is a wonderful game with unlimited combinations and exciting positions! (apologies if 4 knights and bishop is a wrong saying)

Does 3 fold repition extend to 3-cycle repetition. Say there's a sequence of 6 moves that go back to starting position, if you do this sequence of 6 moves 3 times (for 18 moves) does it become a draw?

Yes. Any number of moves that brings the board back to the same exact point repeated 3 times a draw. It's just rare that someone uses more than 1-2-3 moves repeating, because if both player know it's a draw, they usually find the quickest repetition to end the game.

#suggestion Introduce Morphy's more famous/well regarded opponents in a famous game by them, that isnt versus Morphy. We could use a Staunton game before their match does or does not start, as we shall see. It would make them look better as against Paul they simply stood no chance.
