Good video. I have a few practical tips and pointer for going to shows nearly 30 years. Let's see, my first concert was back in 1995 and I saw Adam Ant. Most of the gigs I have gone to have been mainly at bars/venues and medium sized concert halls. Most shows I have been to were Punk and Psychobilly, so crazy stuff but never really had bad issues there. Usually the bigger the show/festival, the more the problems. I have a few tips that should help for a better show. First, bring hearing protection. You can buy good ones in a Guitar Center or order online. You really want ones that lower volume and not try to drown out most sounds like the foam in ears on a work site. Spend the extra money and buy good ones, not the cheapest option. Wear close toe shoes. Yeah, especially for ladies, getting stepped on by a big dude in Doc Martins isn't fun. Also don't wear any important jewelry or expensive clothes or gear, there's a good chance something might happen to it. I also suggest a light jacket/denim jacket to help carry little things but also it helps with sun (I live in Arizona, I know a lot about the sun) if you have a hat consider having like a bandana you can put on the back of your head to keep the sun off your neck. I recommend a T-shirt and jeans for most shows as they are simple and with a jacket cover pretty much 90% of any gig/show/festival issues. If you like to buy merchandise consider bringing a cotton bag like the ones you see in record stores. It's better than plastic (if they even offer that at the merch table) and it keeps all your stuff together. They MAY sell these types of backs at shows but they range from $5-$30 a bag...😑 For buying merch, I usually hit the table a few songs in (usually on a filler song) and buy the shirt and record I want because if you wait until the end, there's a good chance they ran out of your size or sold everything out of that one thing you wanted. I went to one gig and I bought the last 10 inch record they had and the merch guy took it out of another lady's hand as she was looking at it. Lucky me (it's the only copy of that album I have seen in real life to boot.) If you want to be where it sounds the best, go near where the sound engineer is. If you are prone to anxiety your best bet (especially if this is new to you or the band/scene is new to you) is to be towards the back or the sides. That way you don't get crushed when the band goes on by other people (it's going to happen) and you don't have to deal with a mosh pit. Depending on the show and the band I usually move around and find a spot in the venue I like. I will sometimes go out to the smoking patio just to get some air or give my ears a break. As you can tell by the start of my response I am older and I have been to probably 100+ gigs and shows. I'm not really a festival type of guy. It's really a good idea to have and use manners at a gig, you don't know who is friends with who so refrain from talking trash or slagging someone off. I never had any problems with security or other people at a gig. I worked security a long time ago so I steer clear of guys who cause trouble, also back in the day my friends were not the kind of people you messed with. This was before FAFO was a thing or a meme. The other reason is that there is a good chance you will see familiar faces at the next gig if you go to shows quite a bit. I usually did not drink more than two drinks at a show, even 20 years ago alcohol wasn't cheap and I would rather have a good memory and merch than to get wasted on overpriced booze. Definitely watch out for yourself and friends while you are at shows. I used to go to shows solo (I am also a guy) and I would make friends at the bar, sometimes buying them a PBR and we had a good time. I do like that you advocate for people to speak up for themselves at a gig, if you are not having a good time, leave. I've only heard about accomodations for neurodivergent people recently and both times were in the UK or Europe, it's not really something I have seen here in the US . While I understand overstimulation, I have never been to a gig where that was ever taken into account. Not every gig is going to be magic or good. In the US security is more for band and venue protection so going to shows in a different city, state, or country can be a very different experience from what you are used to at home. I hope you have fun at your shows and festivals and just keep an eye out for shady people. Make sure that you eat well and also stay hydrated, especially if the show is outside. Watch what you drink and it's better to drink less alcohol at shows. 😉👍✨
