I would actually love this with all audio reviews. I think i'm myself kinda between audiophile and "regular" consumer. With reviews by audiophiles i dont get that grip of the product as consumer if would really like the product or would it be for me. @@Mariobrownio1989 That's a bit of a stretch. Some people claim there's less noise in the power at night due to less industry and general usage. I've never thought (or care) to actually use a good scope to validate this, but on the surface you can at least somewhat digest the theory. Of course it has nothing to do with night time physiological state, lesser environmental noise or maybe... the alcohol one generally ingests for a late night listening session. hmmm...

Yeah you can only go so far with headphones. 50-70% of the cost of $500+ models comes from profit, marketing, labor/construction/design, and more-exotic-than-average materials. Audio performance wise a cheap pair of $25-$40 Senfer DT6 or Samson SR850 can sound as good with nearly the same drivers and tuning as $80-$150 studio headphones from AKG and Sony. Same goes for the best performing $200-$400 models of IEMs & Over-Ears: more than that and at some point it becomes a luxury item or a product custom-made.

Does anyone else remember the first time you heard a system that blew you away? This is when the audiophile gene shows itself to be present or not. Mine was 60 years ago, with several more epiphanies over the next 10 years. But the joke was on me. As a well seasoned adult, I heard, during a test bench experiment, something I had been overlooking for all the previous years. Massive volume and dynamics ruins the sound quality in all but the most perfect rooms. I rediscovered my love for music at 80-90bd and optimized my system for my small overcrowded room. I feel like such a fool to have invested in huge speakers and crazy power for nearly 50 years only to end up with much smaller infinitely more practical speakers that produce the incredible sound I never knew existed. Sure some of the contemporary recordings are far superior to what was available 60 years ago. But now everything is so much more alive and present. It's kind of comical that for the last few years I still find myself up until the wee hours of the night playing music on a system that is very difficult to turn off to go to bed. And it is the first thing I turn on every morning. What a wonderful psychosis.

I've got over 100k in headphones, amps, dacs, speakers, turntables etc and I've discovered non audiophiles don't prefer the expensive stuff and that the average person for example prefers V shaped sound with a boost in bass region. Had the very same experience with my wife and the new Audeze LCD-X and a live track of Tool done with only an iPhone. As the tune starts to play she taps the earcup of the headphone. I'm thinking WTH, so I adjust the volume a little. She taps the cup again and says"The speakers are playing not the headphones.!!" I made more adjustments and she did it again. I burst out laughing and then removed the headphones and she then heard nothing except the small sound from the cups as she stared at the desktop speakers. She was in total shock. Made my day. I love a good pair of headphones... But a good stereo is something else. I mean sometimes when you want to pick up the tiniest details, headphones can be great. When you really want to immerse yourself in the music and be wowed by it - then speakers are the way to go. There's just magic in having the sound completely fill the space around you, and even feeling it through your skin. Also I'm with Courtney on the value bit. I mean I've never tried a pair of 5000€/USD headphones but it's hard to make sense of that.

That's true, but in most cases speakers also need to be properly located and room should be properly treated to make them sound well. $5000 is definitely well into the speakers category, but up to $1000 headphones most likely to give better quality/value.

There seems to be a bias from the headphone hobbyists/ audiophile world to equate their terminology to what is being produced sound wise. And then there’s what Courtney was describing, while she may not know the terminology that we all use incorrectly. Because no two audio fan or reviewer really have a definite answer to what words like “musicality or dark or warm or bright” really mean. It’s always goal post shifting depending on the reviewers preferences. This was fun ❤ Hopefully she is able to make some more content with you🙏🏼🙏🏼

What I dislike about expensive headphones is that they trade the comfort of being light for materials that don't make a difference on longevity. The Sony MDR-7506 are plastic, light and last forever. Other than that, sometimes they put unique headbands that have weaknesses, like on the Rode NTH-100, the leather strap on the HiFiMan, and the swivel joint on the Takstar Pro82 (CoolerMatser MH752) and Apple Airpods Max.

I have the Ultras bookshelf x 3 years now, i was very pleased with the sound, but decided to AB testing with the Revel M16, after 8 months of coming and going, the Revels where superior, the sound is more balance, , the ultras has something weird going on in the highs, with in some song there is loss of definitions, while in the revels highs are always great. I wonder if Joshua tries the Revel towers how it will fare against his Ultra towers.

My cousin has them along with the 16 Ultra sub and I will say they are slightly on the bright side. That being said, they are not sibilant and all the other frequencies are nothing short of incredible. They are definitely the best speakers I have ever heard. Period.

Headphones are great for convenient on the go and silent non-intrusive critical listening. But when you have the space (room corrected) and budget, you absolutely just can’t beat speakers. The the relatively larger drivers are going to flat out beat the acoustic physics of the much smaller ones in the headphones (no replacement for displacement), and the feeling of spaciousness that you get from speakers can’t be completely replicated on headphones. The superior tactility of the bass on speakers is a complete experience too. If you can dial in the speaker setup just right, you can also make them sound just as detailed as the headphones as well. The hard part is dialing the setup in just right and the amount of space required to set them up properly, both of which gets most people. Room correction technology though goes a pretty good way of fixing a lot (but not all) of the problems.

I have following: Aune X8 Magic DAC + Sparkos SS3602 OpAmp Aune X7s Class A Headphone Amp AKG K701 Modded (diy leather / alcantara pads) Sennheiser HD58x But I also use the DAC for my Desktop Setup with a Shiit Rekkr Class A amp and a pair of Elac BS243.3 with Jet tweeters and diamond mid-bass speaker in diamond shape. When I spin up a FLAC file on Audacious (Linux) like idk "Sabrina Claudio - Frozen" or "Sabrina Claudio - Stand Still" they are in a deep shock how they can see the speakers but hear the voice coming from the monitor and all the instruments flying around the room :D So the DAC was 280Euros, the Shiit Rekkr was 240euros, the SS3602 OpAmp was 100Euros and the two Elac BS243.3 were 450euro a piece. My dream Headphones are any Abyss headphones, I really want one of them. But damn they're so expensive.

Interesting and insightful impressions were given...thank you for that. I have Focal Clear MG's and I was debating about buying a high end headphone tube amp by McIntosh. Instead, I purchased a Rega P6 turntable (to replace my Dual CS 5000 turntable) with Ania Pro cartridge that costs less. Needless to say after playing records on the new turntable which is being heard on Focal Aria speakers and a McIntosh amp, I am blown away on the sound which many records sound better than music on streaming services. Granted not all albums sound better, as remastered streaming music like Fleetwood Mac Rumors sounds better than the original record.

I love the SVS Ultra's! i do not own the Towers myself. Most of my usage is Movie i think 90%. So i went for the SVS Ultra Bookself's with 2x PC2000 Sub's. I also have a SVS Ultra Center, SVS Prime Bookself rear. And Jamo S622 Atmos speakers. But for music i use only the Bookselfs and Sub's. Since i only have a Denon X4400H as an amp the towers where not the best choice for me. Money could be better spend elsewhere. I will be looking into getting a better AMP/DAC next. Or a new receiver but im getting the feeling i can get better sound when i keep the X4400H and just go for external AMP's compared to upgrading to a X6800H or something. Is 2x 150 of the soundbase enough for the Towers? For the Bookselfs it should be enough to fully utilize them. Do you have a list of song's you like to test music with? i did add all the music you showed in the video. For "3D" effect i also like How Far i'll go from Auli'i Cravalho. The opening really messes with your mind on a 2.0 config your like no way. Worked way better 2.0 compared do dolby upmixing a lot of details are lost.

I'm and old fart, and my Dad had a taping studio. Reel to reel tape decks. He collected music and many other audio things. I grew up listening to music through speakers, and gained my Dad's "ear" while changing bass and treble settings for him, listening intently to see if I could detect the minute adjustments I was making. My grandfather also had a nice audio set up in his rec-room as well. I grew up listening to music all the time. Today, people listen to music on their phone speaker or ear buds. They have no idea of the immersiveness they are missing out on. At one point as an adult, I had a nice Sansui receiver and 4 speakers, and I used to sit in the middle of my studio at night, close my eyes, and listen to Electric Light Orchestra.......and get lost in the experience, transported to somewhere else. Today's younger people have no idea what music can be. Today's "stuff" marketed as music is abhorrent. This is why the music I grew up with is the MOST streamed music, and why there are SO MANY KZbinrs with reaction channels....hearing MY music for the first time.....and discovering what REAL music is. Now......they just need to experience it the right way.

Surprisingly enough, STAX are literally so detailed that a lot of people get turned off by them. My girlfriend tried out my SR-Lambda Signatures and SR-404, and she said that it was "too good", and she didn't wanna continue listening to them. She preferred T60 Argons. Other non-audiophiles have also given me the reaction that they "almost hurt to listen to", or that they're "overwhelming". A lot of enthusiasts LOVE STAX, and I'm definitely part of that group, but I can see why non-audiophiles don't.

@@NekoOkto Depends what you are listening for I guess, and the source. A lot of music and quality of said music does not benefit from more detail or even clarity, and I think if more musicians knew what level of detail headphones are revealing about their recordings these days they would shit themselves in embarrassment. Some would say that wasn't their intention at all with the music itself, that recordings have nothing to do with live music and the experience of it. I think it is easier for people to understand that than why audiophiles are into what they are into.
