You did the right thing in waiting for it to be cold when you got on that ice. I've been fishing on 1 inch ice before, but it was below freezing point. Can't imagine doing that in 40 degree temps.

Yeah, spooled by a walleye like that on an inch and a half of ice is what hard work gets you in Wisconsin. Going to save this to show my dad when I’m up there in January. Thanks again.

Thanks, it was definitely 1.5” - 2.5” throughout the areas we could “safely” walk on. Other areas around us got worse and worse! Sketchy yet exciting! Glad to be on the hard water!

I've gone through once ...in the middle of January with 10 degrees weather and A very cold northwest wind ....had to walk A quarter mile to the truck completely soaked ..... Hit A Spring in about 6-7 ft of water ....so pretty queezy about bad ice !

I don't think you're that nuts. I was out on the ice in Southern Wisconsin yesterday when it was 47 degrees! She was a bit sketchy walking back to shore, but it held me up (about 2 inches)! Best thing was I caught fish! Only people who are die-hard ice fishermen would understand!

Oh yeah. If you don't risk it for the biscuit you're not a die hard fisherman. I was out on 2 inches here in central mn was it sketchy most definitely did I catch fish hell yeah I did. I'm going out again tonight since it was about 9 degrees last night. That'll add about another inch or so of ice so I'll be perfectly fine.
