Hi guy’s! So glad everyone is feeling better. My thoughts on the 320R loader that I have on my 33R. It has much more lifting capacity than my tractor can handle without a lot of ballast. It’s very easy to bring the rear tires off the ground or one side or the other on a off camber situation. I have the iMatch hitch and JD ballast box full of gravel and concrete and leave it on unless I’m using a rear implement. I’m look forward to your future videos on your 3R and your thoughts on the machine. I find my 33R power reverser to be more tractor than I need but would want anything smaller.

I have a cab 3039r and I agree the joystick does make it hard to make small slow movements with the loader. The other thing I noticed is that the range selector lever is hard to feel when you have it in a range or a neutral position. I did add 3” wheel spacers and tractor is much more stable now. Other than those things I love the tractor, for me I could never go back to an open station.

I used to have an open 3039R but I traded for a cab 3046R. I am short and one of the first things that I liked about the cab is the pedals are in a better location for me. They are a little closer to the seat so less reach. I do agree with you guys about the cable controls. That was certainly a trade off. You get used to it. However an electric over hydraulic control there would be great. Mowing tall brush on the hot humid days in eastern NC will convince you to get a cab.
@PeterHonig.

We used to have a 3R (with cab) several years ago and we really liked it, especially for its tight turning radius. However, for our farm which has some really steep pastures, the 3R just didn't have enough horsepower to handle running a flail mower while going uphill without traveling at a snail's pace. We traded it in and purchased a 4066R with cab that does everything we need. By the way, when you press the hydrostatic pedals in the 3R and 4R, you are actually communicating with the computer which in turn controls the tractor motion. As such, the response to the pedal commands can be fine-tuned by your JD dealer. We initially had a problem with our 3R, where taking your foot off the forward pedal while going down steep hills resulted in an abrupt stop even though it worked fine on flat terrain. To fix it they raised the tractor off the ground so none of the four wheels were touching (very important step!) and ran a computer program to successfully recalibrate it. Most service technicians are not aware that the tractor's wheels must be free to spin during this procedure or it will not work successfully.

One thing to remember about trailer weights is that it's only really the weight on the axle that matters, as long as you've got capacity on the truck end for some tongue weight. Our 5320 4wd with 3 weights per side and no rim guard, with loader and bucket, and the Shaver MV-50 stump grinder on the back (it weighs 1000#, IIRC), on the 18' 10k tilt, was right at 10k on the axles, and 2k on the truck. With a weight distribution hitch, it was fine. The 6.0L (Chevy gasser) didn't like it in the hills too much, but the rest of the K2500HD wasn't sketchy, and was inside all the axle weights. That was with the tractor loaded backwards and the stump grinder hanging over the tongue.

I can vouch for the weight difference. Good video on it. Been looking forward to this series. The other day I weighed My 2038R in the configuration that I most often haul it. Came in at 6000 pounds with the stump grinder on I had been hauling it with a 7k trailer but I just got a 14k gooseneck for it I have ran a 3046 a little. Seems like the center of gravity is higher and doesn’t feel as stable at first glance Glad to hear you’re feeling better. I’ve been out of commission the last week as well

Love all of your videos. One thing about trailing though. You will be transferring 10-20 percent of the trailer weight to the tow rig. This allows you to carry more than just the axle capacity minus trailer weight and equipment weight. So if you have a 7k axle trailer, and it weighs 1500 lbs, and you put a 5k tractor on it, you would be about 6500 lbs. However, if loaded properly, you would be transferring 650-1300 lbs off of the trailer to the tow vehicle. Basically, freeing up some capacity on the trailer. You could essentially almost put 7k lbs of weight on a 7k lb axle trailer that weighs 1500, and you would be right at max if you loaded it to transfer 20 % to the tow rig. You would be roughly 100 lbs over that way.

Tire pressure can affect scale weights side to side. Adjust the tire pressure in the front tires and you will probably be able to get the weights closer. Same for the rear but that's tougher with the rim guard. Glad you are feeling better!

Tim and Christy, I am guessing you will find the lift capacity of the loader to exceed the specs. I have lifted some logs that calculated to be much heavier than the listed capacity. I have owned my 3039R since 2018 and use it mostly to feed my sawmill, make firewood, and some side work. You can see some of these vids of me picking up massive logs on my youtube page.

I hope you two feel better. The pedals on my 3046r have a knob that controls the "reaction" of them. I don't find it intuitive to use. It doesn't always react the way you think it might. It does however give you a much quicker, or slower reaction with your traction pedals depending on how it's adjusted. I've also found it to have limited affect in first gear. It does make a difference, just no where near as much as in second or third gear. The cable system for front end hydraulics is not what I would consider to be smooth. Mine from use now has a catch. Both a good and bad thing. It's spot that allows me to use both functions at once. It can be a pain to go past it if I want to go full dump. I did lube the system with graphite, and that made a massive difference. It's not an easy thing to do however. The turning radius on mine is ridiculous. It'll practically do a donut without spinning a wheel. I'm very impressed with it. It was the 3rd best feature of why I bought it. Being able to turn on a dime is a must for my needs. I am unhappy with the loader in general. I find that it is lacking in force in all directions. I have the "heavy duty" version for my year range. It's capacity simply does not match the rest the of the tractor. If I had to guess, I would say it's a rebadged 2-series loader. I had briefly though about installing bigger lift cylinders. Considering how much the loader flexes under heavy load, I'm too scared to do it. I believe it would break. The hydraulics are also quite slow for the HP that the tractor has. Again, if I was to guess, I would say the pump is the same one for all of the 3-series. Maybe even the same as the 2-series. Considering the price point of the tractor, I'm not happy with it. They should have sized the loader and the hydraulic pump appropriately. I have the mid-mount mower for mine. (Belly Mower) I am super happy with it's performance. The thing is an absolute beast. I can mow acres of field rather quickly. It's also exceedingly fuel efficient. I have a 7-gallon fender tank on my cabbed tractor. I can near a full 8-hours under heavy load on a tank of fuel. That's with the AC running. At the recommendations of the dealer, I got a 5' bush-hog. Way undersized for the tractor. I should have gotten something like a 9' split. As a whole, I'm quite happy with it. My complaints are basically around Deere cheaping out on the hydraulics and loader. It is just slightly under-powered for one of my main tasks, running a small round baler. In that order, I may be purchasing a 4066r. I'll miss the belly mower though. Mowing the majority of my lawn in AC is nice.... I'm also considering keeping it, and buying a 5090M in a couple of years. The thing is just exceedingly handy. It's just small enough to get where I need it, and just big enough to get the job done. Time will tell what I decide. Hope ya'll feel better!

Great comparison between the loader joystick on cab vs open station. We have a 3039R Cab and a 3043D open. Absolutely hate how difficult the 3039R is to operate when using the loader. Completely overshadows everything else that's great about having a 3039R Cab.

Great addition to your equipment line up. Interesting comments on the age of the design. That to me says, John Deere is satisfied with the design and has not seen a need to make big changes. The wheel weights and Rimguard is how I have my 2017 3033R set up. Down the road, if you would like to put my hydraulic post hole digger on your tractors. I live about 1-1/2 hours from your location.

Nice machine there Tim! We just bought a brand new 2038R turbo at work and on first start up it also clatters/knocks like crazy.. I think it just has to do with the ignition in the cylinders when the engine is cold, once they cylinders get up to temperature the ignition fire is smoother thus the sound gets greatly reduced. Yanmar engines are known for many great things but being quiet has never been one of them! Haha. Reminds me of a cummins

This will be ignition timing altered for cold startup. Once the engine warms it returns to normal injection timing. With larger engines during cold (slow turnover) startup if fuel Is injected too soon it can try and hydraulic lock.

I got my new 2024 cab 3046R Friday, although it’s my 5th 3R 4th cab model. I bought all my other 3Rs as very low used machines, even as low as 10 hours, but this is my first brand new 3R Cab model. I thought about this video when I first got in my new machine. I think I finally know what you were saying about how stiff the cab model levers are and in particular the loader joystick. Now I can say that extreme tension/resistance I had noticed when I first got in it, did change or improve pretty quickly within the first few minutes of use. Still not as easy or loosened up as much as my near 500 hour cab 3046, but much easier then when I first got in the new one. Just thought I would share that, you probably already figured that out with your high hour 3520 or your 24 test unit cab 3046.

Tim, you nailed the ergonomics with the 3r series. We traded our 2038r for a cab 3039r this year. Loved the cab, but my wife has a bad shoulder and could not operate the loader joystick. Ended up trading that in on an open station 3039r. We both had a difficult time reaching the pedals. Ours did not have the air ride seat, but we both though it was an uncomfortable tractor. In the end, we sold that one and went back to the 2038r. The 2038r is like an old pair of shoes..lol, it just fits well.

I’ve had a 3320 for about three years, I’m keen to see what you think this compares like to the 3320 back on your family farm. I’ve often thought about downsizing to a 2038r as most of what I do is brush hogging, rotary hoeing and flail. Keen to see if you can compare work on the ground between the 2038 and three series to see if trailer carrying is easier for some people

Hi Tim!! I am an orange tractor guy hahaha, I looked at the specs open cab is 3066lbs seems you are on point with rim guard, wheel weights, and general difference in weight. The loader frame added to the mix is another consideration. Still congratulations and I can't wait to see it used in the rhino batwing mower!! Also, I was wondering if you had any more LX3310 videos for your next follow-up on your thoughts?

I couldn’t agree more with the pedal comments. I just bought a 3046r and find it harder to navigate for example, near buildings when doing snow removal. I’m still paranoid that it’s not going to respond the way I want and my blade will hit the building. I’m sure I’ll get used to it eventually… I’m coming from a Gen 1 2032r previously.

Good stuff. Really like the 3046. But the 2038 has me for the next machine I'm afraid. It's the attachment you get me sold on. Tim the feed back from krisity was great to. I'm short to

Praying that you and Christy will get back to full health and strength soon. I surprised that JD didn't get the pedal feel of the DBW system better. Definitely not a new technology. Nearly all cars and trucks have used that for many years and you can't tell the difference between cable actuated and DBW. Maybe JD can do some kind of software update to help?

Just traded my 3320 for 3039r. Just wrote four paragraphs and deleted it all. Just going to say the 3320 was much better. You are going to really like the 3 series in what you can do compared to the smaller ones. I believe they are the perfect size .

Christy it looks like you need a set of pedal block extensions. Just attach when you use the machine. JD should do what my Ram 1500 does the pedals rise and fall together with a power switch.

I think the fairest comparison to the 3r is the Kubota Grand L 3560 in the open cab in the Kubota line. For whatever reason Kubota starts making the frame bigger and bigger as the Grand L series when it gets more HP. I would love to see you trade the LX 3310 for the Grand L 3560. That would be interesting to compare against the 3R as well as the big frame 2R like yours.

If you had some slip on pedals extension for Christi would be nice. Great video.

Interesting on the gas tank location. I thought they moved the tanks behind the seat. My 2018 3032E has it behind the seat for easier fill. Even without the cab and beet juice in the tires, the pucker factor was on the high end of the scale when mowing roadsides. My grandson is 12 and has the same problem as Christy. I zip tied blocks to the pedals for him. If folks have questions on weight of unit, most elevators will allow you to use their scales to check weight. Get feeling better.

My dream tractor or model. I think so anyway, I don’t have one so I don’t know but in my head it’s my second dream tractor my first dream tractor would actually be about five different models, but if I had to choose one this seems like one of the best choices to me. Lol

I have a JD 4720 that makes the same noise on startup, then seems to "warm-up", then everything quiets down. It has been doing this since new in 2013 and I assume it is a normal condition.
