patongo is a magical thing. one of those food i absolutely miss every time i leave. we doing have that here (that is like what you got). classically, you'd eat dip it in sweeten condensed milk. for some people, that plus coffee is their standard breakfast. my favourite use, though, is them cut up and added to congee/jok. it's amazing.

Pathongko Chinese snack that came to Thailand with the Chinese immigrants. In Mandarin it is called Youtiao, in Cantonese Youzhagui, literally means ‘oil-fried devil’ Due to a confusion with a different kind of dessert, it should actually be called You Zha Guai in Teochew. It was previously sold together by street vendors who normally walked around and shouted both names out loud. However, Thai customers often mistakenly thought that the more popular You Zha Guai was Pathongko. Eventually, the real Pathongko disappeared from the market because of its unpopularity. In Thailand, Pathongko is also dipped into Thai Coconut Custard (Sangkaya) or condensed milk. The legend of the snack: During the Song Dynasty (960-1279), there was a famous and well-respected General, Yue Fei who had been known for his loyalty towards the kingdom and his Emperor. The Prime Minister of the time, Qin Gui had unusually resented Yue Fei. With the manipulative influence from his wife and to gain real power, he accused Yue Fei of a crime and executed him. Although frustrated, there was nothing the public civilians could do. To relieve his anger, a baker thought of an idea of making bread in the shape of 2 people twisted together and deep-fried it in burning hot oil. The shape was to signify Qin Gui and his wife. Symbolically, they had burnt the Qin Gui couple in hot oil and eaten them up. There are statues of Qin Hui and wife kneeling at Yue Fei gravestone in Yue Fei's shrine in Hangzhou. Some visitors traditionally curse and spit on the statues.

Sorry guys but you should do your research, Yokohama is the largest Chinatown, plus San Francisco is larger than Bangkok according to google. Also Chinese Luner New Year was on February 1st 2022, so as you only just posted this I’am confused, in fact the end of last week was the Songkran Water Festival, which is the most important Festival for Thai people and it’s Bhuddhist. So is this also celebrated by the Chinese community in Bangkok? I can only assume you shot this on February 1st, that’s the only thing that makes sense for me! 🤷‍♂️. Ok I’ve just checked your Instagram and you were in Bangkok 11 weeks ago, so you’re not posting currently, no problems! But the date of the vlog would of been helpful

Our understanding was that there’s debate on which Chinatown is the ‘largest’ based on square miles, population, etc. So, guess it depends on definition. Regardless, the Bangkok Chinatown is huge and vibrant. Yes, it takes us a bit longer to publish videos since we film more per week than we can edit, and spend more time editing than most to have really good quality videos.

Not for long time that Chinese in Thai land were forbidden to learn Chinese in schools . In Thai- Chinese family they mainly speak Tea-chew for the old and speak Thai for the young generation. And they want to assimilate into Thai society so they just speak Thai .
