Ajara doesn't have its own dialect. The only reason it is an autonomous region is because the USSR promised it would make it so to Turkey after a war, to accomodate the Muslim minority. Adjarans are in absolutely no way culturally seperate from the rest of Georgians. I don't know why the Autonomous status has been kept, but people speculate it has something to do with plans to make Ajara another casino slash tax free bank for the international elite.
@filiushermesio3 жыл бұрын
You are right that the dialect isn`t a reason why Adjara was granted autonomy, you brought a real reason, however, I can`t agree with you that there isn`t Adjarian dialect, they have their own dialect as every other region of Georgia.
@zuuzuuka3 жыл бұрын
@@filiushermesio accent maybe. The word dialect implies at least a small weath of idiosyncrasies in vocabulary or sentence structure and wider grammar. Which Ajarians don't have, nor do any Georgians. Georgian hasn't really got any dialects that I am aware of - Megrelian, Laz and Svan aren't dialects, but languages. The only thing i can think of is the Georgian that the Georgian community that was forced to settle in a province of Iran a few centuries ago speaks, that is actually a dialect though it is not from inside Georgia, they speak an old version of Georgian with their own development to it.
@filiushermesio3 жыл бұрын
@@zuuzuuka You're right that Megrelian, Laz, and Svan aren't dialects but languages. They belong to the Kartvelian languages family besides the Georgian language. Northwest dialects 1)Imeretian (Imeruli, იმერული) in Imereti 2)Lechkhumian (Lečkhumuri, ლეჩხუმური) in Lechkhumi 3)Rachan (Račuli, რაჭული) in Racha Southwest dialects 1)Gurian (Guruli, გურული) in Guria 2)Adjarian (Ačaruli, აჭარული) in Adjara 3)Imerkhevian (Imerkheuli, იმერხეული) in Imerkhevi (nowadays Turkey) Central dialects The Central dialects, sometimes considered part of the Eastern group, are spoken in central and southern Georgia and provide the basis for the Standard Georgian language. 1)Kartlian (Kartluri, ქართლური) in Kartli 2)Meskhian (Meskhuri, მესხური) in Meskheti 3)Javakhian (Javakhuri, ჯავახური) in Javakheti Northeast dialects This group is spoken by the mountaineers in northeast Georgia. 1)Mokhevian (Mokheuri, მოხეური), spoken in Khevi 2)Mtiuletian-Gudamaqrian (Mtiulur-Gudamaqruli, მთიულურ-გუდამაყრული) in Mtiuleti and Gudamaqari 3)Khevsurian (Khevsuruli, ხევსურული) in Khevsureti 4)Pshavian (Phšauri, ფშაური) in Pshavi 5)Tushetian (Tušuri, თუშური) in Tusheti Eastern dialects Two of these dialects, Ingiloan and Fereidanian, are spoken outside Georgia, the former by the indigenous Georgians in northwest Azerbaijan(before 1921 those territories belonged to Georgia), and the latter by the descendants of the 17th-19th century Georgian deportees in Iran. 1)Kakhetian (Kakhuri, კახური) in Kakheti 2)Tianetian (Tianeturi, თიანეთური) in Also-Tianeti 3)Ingiloan (Ingilouri, ინგილოური) in Saingilo (Azerbaijan) 4)Fereydanian (Phereidnuli, ფერეიდნული) in Fereydan (Iran) Other dialects The obsolescent Kizlar-Mozdokian dialect was spoken in the north-central Caucasian areas of Kizlyar and Mozdok by descendants of those Georgians who fled the Ottoman occupation of Georgia in the early 18th century. It was technically a mixture of various Georgian dialects laden with Russian loanwords. Subsequently, the group was largely Russified and the dialect became extinct. Judæo-Georgian is a language spoken by the Georgian Jews. Largely Georgian phonetically, morphologically, and syntactically, and mixed Georgian-Hebrew lexically, it is considered by some not to be a distinct language but rather a dialect of Georgian. All of those are classified as Georgian dialects. Megrelian, Laz, and Svan languages do also have their dialects. The main dialects and subdialects of Mingrelian are: Zugdidi-Samurzakano or Northwest dialect Dzhvari Senaki or Southeast dialect Martvili-Bandza Abasha The Svan language is divided into the following dialects and subdialects: Upper Svan (about 15,000 speakers) Upper Bal: Ushguli, Kala, Ipar, Mulakh, Mestia, Lenzer, Latal. Lower Bal: Becho, Tskhumar, Etser, Par, Chubekh, Lakham. Lower Svan (about 12,000 speakers) Lashkhian: Lashkh. Lentekhian: Lentekhi, Kheled, Khopur, Rtskhmelur, Cholur

@@filiushermesio fair enough. Some of these I didn't know existed, some of these I didn't know were dialects. In general though, is there really a notable variance in vocabulary or are words just pronounced differently?

Batumi is really cool city! all the trees and plants and buildings and restaurants! there is one pond with ducks and I feed them, they are very cute. I was twice in that double blue buildings 2:52 (behind the Hilton round building) the old part reminds me of Lithuania and Germany. oh and those fountains dance, there is a variety of music, its a nice way to cool off, it has a nice mist. yes, that Chacha tower worked, Russians came with whole barrels to take it. you should have cycled over to the new part, that section is relatively "boring" and un-touristic, the new bit is very modern and cool. and the bonus: bread does not dry out when you leave it on the table even overnight!!!! LOL!
